I spoke to some people at the section championship this year and several expressed interest in bringing it back for 2015..... If you build it they will come....... But realistically, it's probably not viable. We would get the 17 hardcore wheelgunners who shot the last 3-day revolver nationals (in Vegas) and maybe a few more because it would be a stand-alone event. In order to attract a larger mix of shooters, including the international revolver guys and the GMs from other divisions who don't normally shoot revolver, somebody would need to put up real money and prizes like the Bianchi Cup, or the 3GN stuff that is all the craze right now. What if the USPSA National Revolver Champion were awarded $20,000, with appropriately scaled prize money for the top five or ten finishers, plus a meaningful prize table for everybody else? Jerry would be back. Rob would be there, too. Ricky and Sascha would fly in. Bjorn and Nils would dust off their wheels again. And Matt would actually practice. Nobody in the revolver community would willingly miss a big event like that. But it's just not going to happen the way things are currently structured, where we mostly shoot for plaques and door prizes and charity kudos. I think he's a closet Revolver fan (even though he denies it), he's great at organizing matches and collecting prizes, and since no one really knows what his new job entails, there's a chance to pull a fast one. I think it is inconsistent to recall the Memphis Charity Challenge, which drew in the hundreds as a stand alone event , and say that a stand alone match at the same venue and time would draw only 20 shooters if it was called the Revolver Nationals. That makes no sense to me. What also doesn't make sense to me is to travel to, for me, a remote destination to shoot a one day match on a limited course that some, but not all, competitors had the opportunity to run the two days prior and call that the revolver national championship. Bubber Posted November 6, 2014 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I dislike money payouts, but that is just me, All stages are revolver friendly, so my vote goes for Lots of revolvers. If you are not going to put a lot of stuff for each division, then cheaper entry fees could help realizing that entry fees are not as high as the cost of travel, room and board. Knowing I will be laid up for a few more months I will not be a poor choice for judging what would be needed. But there it is wheelie. Roger D. Separating it unto itself may not be wise without a major commitment to awards. There has to be a draw for all but the die hard Revo's, it's just human nature at work. Memphis was fun, but if there's a choice between a Nationals after a Single Stack, or other match, and a Charity event, I'm afraid Memphis wouldn't draw the same. Also it seems quite a few who are deep into the Single Stack, also have an affinity for the Revolver. Can't say that about the Open/Limited guys I've known. FWIW I'd think it best to leave the Nationals as it is, and try a few outside matches to see what the draw would be. MWP Posted November 6, 2014 Share Posted November 6, 2014 As the recent winner of a staggered shootoff, I'm going to say they suck, and they're not quite fair. I had all the plates, and shooters that were faster on steel got less. I got lucky. Classifications based of how fast you can run and shoot are very different than how fast a person can stand and shoot plates. If thinking about a a way to even up the classes don't cut down the targets just give the lower class one or two shots prior the higher class being able to start no delayed start based on time though on time though.
