Mild Bill Posted July 13, 2014 Share Posted July 13, 2014 I've made up my mind to buy the Witness limited. Most likely buy in the next month or so. I have been looking at the USPSA rules. How many classes would it be possible to shoot it in? Production? Does the mag funnel make it a no go? Limited 10? Limited? I looked and didn't see anything about full dust cover. What is the advantage to shooting major? I would like to shoot 9mm and try to break my bad habits and work on basics before trying to shoot faster. As an added plus I already load 9mm. But if their is an advantage to shooting .40 I don't have a problem with that. I hope by going to a larger grip frame I will be able to have a more consistent grip that the smaller frame didn't allow. I'm hoping also that this will help with transitions from one target to another. In the longer shot strings in IDPA my left hand would shoot loose, I would have to re grip with my left hand breaking my concentration. Holsters, and mags, point me in the right direction. Shooting minor (9mm) in any other classification (Limited, L10, etc) means that every time you miss the A zone (and hit the B, C or D zone) you lose points - simply because you're not shooting "major" (a .40 or .45). I tried Limited minor for a while and the disadvantage isn't work it, unless you slow down a bit to make all "A" hits. if you slow down then you are sacrificing time and then you are at another disadvantage. Torogi Posted July 13, 2014 Share Posted July 13, 2014 To me it looks like you need a limited pro. 9mm. DA/SA. Short dust cover. Longer sight radius than a stock 2, and probably even more available than stock 2. That is suitable in production DIVISION. If you have your heart set on a Limited, go 40. That is the only way to go. But keep in mind that switching caliber isn't cheap. Brass, bullets, dies, conversion kit, and learning the load too. You'll end up spending as much as the gun. Nealio Posted July 13, 2014 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Shooting 9mm in limited is fine. It's all mental. Sure when you make A or master you probably might want to consider major. With soft shooting 9mm loads you can send 2 and get 2 A's easier and faster. If a softer shooting gun wasn't an advantage then all the .40 shooters would be shooting 155gr bullets instead of 180s. I am thinking I'll keep an eye out for a .40 conversion, but I'm having fun with 9mm. First match with it I got better scores on the two classifiers (I still suck though). Just seeing where I might fit in. I shot CDP in IDPA and did real good. Was shooting 1 or 2 slots under the guys that travel every weekend to matches. I didn't have any practice time, and only was shooting the 1 match a month. I kind of liked the looks of limited 10 so I bought a swap top to try to run limited 10 in .40 but could never get it to run more than 60% of the time. I shot my wife's Glock a couple times, but never could warm up to the trigger, with the extra small frame. The fact that I was shooting 1911 major 1st round, and then going back and shooting Glock 9mm minor was throwing my sight picture off bad. It is the "Futuristic Magnetic" holster from Universal Shooting Academy (Manny Bragg). http://www.mannyusa.com/Firearms_Training/product/Futuristic_Magnetic.html I had read somewhere about a "thigh pad" (for an extra $25), but didn't see it on the website anywhere. I emailed in, and got a response within an hour. I was on the fence for a week or two between this and the Speedsec 5, but ultimately decided on this one due to the extra lock position. Position 1 (full upright): Unlocked Position 2 (middle position, points backwards at the 9 o'clock): Locked, but easy to unlock. This is supposed to be for a stage where you start out running; the gun will be locked, but you can easily hit the unlock lever on the draw. Position 3 (all the way down): Locked. When this is locked, it is LOCKED. Even upside down. I will say that it has a little play side to side when it is in the holster. I need to play with it a little. Also, when I pulled it out of the shipping box (only thing in a package was the leg pad screws) I spent about 10 minutes with an old toothbrush getting the plastic shavings off. Yes, the black parts are plastic...like you would make on a 3D printer. But, the biggest surprise was Manny shipping it out...and telling me to send in payment for it at my "earliest convenience". I was told it was a limited run, and judging by the offers to buy the slide/upper I'd have to say it must be rare. After a week or 2 if you don't mind pm me and let me know what you think, after you have put it thru some use. I've decided limited in .40 working on trading some stuff around to get a .40 setup for my 550. The bad thing about it is in the last year I've gave away 3/4 a gallon milk jug full of .40 brass because I didn't load it. And 3-4 weeks ago I came upon a smoking deal of think it was 1300 or so lead bullets, that I couldn't use, and sold them to a buddy at a good price. I will certainly try to remember in 2 weeks, feel free to send a PM my way. "Race" holsters are legal in all classes except Production and Single Stack. If it makes you feel any better, I just bought 1k bullets and 2k pieces of once-fired about 2 weeks before I bought this one. Had to scramble for 9mm bullets since there was a match 5 days after I got it. I've only shot Xtreme 124gr through it so far, but I'm going to give a couple local firemen's bullets a try. Yeah, when I was browsing the internet trying to figure out what gun I was buying, that was the one I kept seeing. Google search took me to an Australian website that had it. Box for mine says Limited Custom. Either way, I'm quite happy with mine. Already contemplating what gun I can sell next to buy a couple more Tanfoglios... bayougump Posted July 15, 2014 Share Posted July 15, 2014 I have a new Stock III in .40 and I am thinking of using it for USPSA Limited. I was going to shoot it in Production in .40 minor but the Tanfoglio fairy is delivering another Stock II so I plan on using it along with the Stock II that I presently have in Production. My question is how much of a disadvantage if any would using a Stock III in Limited be without the slide cuts? I can install a magwell I would think along with a Henning flat trigger making it SAO plus I don't want to go thru the hassle of trying to sell the Stock III and get a Limited.
