motosapiens
Why would you want to shoot a .40 in Production? softer recoil and bigger holes than a 9, easier to reload, perhaps one has standardized on that caliber for everything. I shoot a 40 cz in production.

Sarge
can anyone tell me how the 5" 40 pro weights less then a 4" 40 Lightened slide. not in production The slide is already lightened from the factory. Same way a G34 slide is lightened compared to a 17. Long slide guns generally have lightened slides in order to cycle with the same ammo that cycles a standard gun. ryan45kim
I think someone messed up when they listed that weight. My 5" 40 pro is almost 28oz and the only changes I made are an apex sear and dawson front sight. The 5" 9 pro is listed at 29.2 and the full size 40 is listed at 27.5. I have both the full size M&P 40 and 5" M&P 40 pro and the pro slide is more then an ounce heaver then the full size. bigfish
Why would you want to shoot a .40 in Production? You can bouce back and forth between limited and production with the same gun. Just reduce the load for minor in production and remove you magwell and mag extensions. There are plenty of glock guys that do it.
Sarge
Don't forget that weight includes an empty mag.
ryan45kim
You sir are correct. I weighed my 5” pro and included an empty magazine; my scale said just less than 28oz. I think what happened is the person from S&W that submitted the paperwork did not include the magazine weight and just looked at the weight listed on the web site which is 26oz. I'm pretty sure S&W did the same thing when the 9L finally made the list. Edited February 16, 2013 by ryan45kim

I can see a headache for a lot of folks if they use the weight from the list.
ProGunGuy
Been shooting mine at club matches in production for a while. I did the same, until a shooter told me the .40 Pro was not approved for Production. So I sold the .40 and purchased a 35. That shot so well, I sold my 9 MM Pro and purchase a 34. I couldn't be happier.
ryan45kim
Most matches don’t weight guns, heck I’ve been to a couple major matches that didn’t even chrono our ammo but the rules are that production guns have to meet a certain weight and it is the weight on the list. S&W did the same thing when the 9L finally made the production list and they got that weight changed pretty quickly. After the ridiculous wait to get the 40 Pro on the production list my heart just sank when I saw the listed weight but S&W should be able to get this fixed quickly.
