baron45
Who or what manufacturer makes the best Tungsten Guide Rod?Also, how would it compare to the STI Rangemaster Guide Rod?You see,I am debating which between the two of them shall I get for my STI Trojan .45 ACP pistol. THANKS. baron45
.40AET
Before you decide, take a look at the Cominolli tungsten guide rod. They use a shock buff on both sides of the guide rod head. It's very soft and dampens recoil well.
TDean
EGW makes a nice one for SV/STI. It has the correct radius on the head to fit these frames.
NMinzghor
I agree with Tom go with the EGW
kevin c
Cominolli's are nice, but they wouldn't run in my Para with a Schuemann Bull bbl. The gun wouldn't cycle right. I have a EGW one piece tungsten rod now, and am quite happy.
DougCarden
I like the big one that Wilson used to sell and Ross Carter is now selling. It is the big one and Wolff has the recoil spring for it.
Jasonub
the 2 i know with the least breakage is the svi rod and the cominolli rod. no experience on the egw though. I have a cominolli which shot around 13000 to date without any problems
michael_aos
I agree with Tom go with the EGW 1pc or 2pc? Mike
reneet
No contest... EGW. I've had problems with the Cominolli as well.
jnshapiro
I've a Cominolli in my Springfield with no problems at all. Works great. No experience with any of the others mentioned, so I can't compare them. Joel
davidwiz
I know two different local shooters who collectively went throught 5 Cominoli guide rods in a 4 week period. In my .40, I'm using the old 5oz Wilson tungsten guide rod (since '95). In my Super, I have the 3oz'ish 1pc EGW tungsten guide rod. -David
MoNsTeR
How could there be a 2oz difference between one kind and another?
diehli
The Wilson is FAT w/ a different plug.
Eye Cutter
i have an SVI tungsten guide rod i bought at SSI. no problems yet!
davidwiz
How could there be a 2oz difference between one kind and another? The Wilson 5oz tungsten guide rod are bigger diameter wise than a normal 1pc guide rod. They have a special recoil spring collar, and if you want to use a shok buff, you have to open it up so it will fit on. The EGW tungsten guide rod is of the same diameter as a regular steel guide rod. -David
.40AET
I know two different local shooters who collectively went throught 5 Cominoli guide rods in a 4 week period. Damn-I'm sure grateful that I got one of the good ones. Mine is 3 years old and has been in 3 different guns with no problems. I did have it fitted for my SV by someone other than myself. Ross Carter
As someone said I obtained the rights to produce the 5 oz guide rods that Wilson used to sell. I've been out of them for awhile but I'm getting ready to start production again and will offer Longslide and Commander versions as well as the std length. I also have a way to use them with a bull barrel which works really well. Ross Carter
MoNsTeR
I'm keen on a longslide/bushing unit, hopefully I'll have money by then!
Newguy
I also had a problem with the Cominoli -- the guide rod head (IIRC thinner than a normal head) warped. This was on a Briley linkless so I don't know if that problem would apply to other guns. Even the second Cominoli wouldn't run right. No problem using the EGW 2-piece rod. Eye Cutter
My SVI tungsten guide rod came loose. the rod had already turned 2-3 revolutions. Had my smith put red loctite in it. Let's see how it holds up.
