Piney
Wife's a bit hard of hearing, so the TV shows get turned up-- then BAM comes a comercial blasting out. I can hear the $%^& thing out in the back yard ! I heard a piece of a report the other day. A congressperson was to introduce a bill to require the FCC to step in. Somthing about a comercial's sound level had to be less or equal to the program volume. Whooohooo !

birdzman
I love the mute button on my remote, not only are the commercials loud but most are insulting to an average persons intelligence.

raz-0
It was called the CALM act, the FCC was supposed to come up with regulations this past december, and those regulations are supposed to be adhered to by december of this year.
birdzman
I'll believe it when I hear the difference.
wgnoyes
At least for cars, the louder the commercial is for a car dealership, the dumber and poorer they think their intended audience is. ("ALL CREDIT APPS ACCEPTED!!!!" Well yeah, sure, we'll TAKE your app; APPROVAL is an entirely different issue!) I've never heard a Mercedes dealership screaming about deals. gunguru
Back in the past, I remember some VCR to have a Commercial removing system based on the volume... Not a new thing, but soooo annoying! (especialy with Vince "shamwow")
sperman
I have a bad habit of falling asleep with the TV on. Some loud commercial at 2AM always seems to wake me up. I hope this doesn't come across as a rebuttal, but i really don't want the government involved in this.
Piney
It was called the CALM act, the FCC was supposed to come up with regulations this past december, and those regulations are supposed to be adhered to by december of this year. From the FCC site-- Q: When did the FCC have to adopt rules and when do these rules take effect? A: The Commission was required to adopt rules within one year of the law's enactment, and did so on December 13, 2011. The Commission's rules become effective one year after their adoption, or December 13, 2012. Usual GOV wording -- "adpot" and "effective" =different dates
