  1. I'm on 15, shooting Prod. Great to meet you!! Do you know anyone else on our squad.
  2. Looking for fellow Open Squad 15 members...
  3. I just got the grip screws! Awesome! Exactly what I wanted! They add the final touch of bling...
  4. I've heard that the sound insulation in the rooms at the MGM are quite good.
  5. What are you going to do with the Rossi if you decide to upgrade? No one will be interested in buying it, so you'll have to eat the cost. What are you going to do with the Rossi if you don't like revolver division? No one will be interested in buying it, so you'll have to eat the cost. Borrow if you can. Buy something with resale value if you're not sure you want to keep it. Of course, if it has some resale value, it won't be necessary to upgrade if you like revolver division.
  6. I love my Hornady LNL AP. They have sponsored me for the Nationals, but I had the press before the sponsorship. My primary load is 38super, and I use Hornady dies and powder measure. Some people have trouble adjusting the bell using the Hornady powder thru expander. I designed a slider to aid in adjustment, but Hornady is not yet ready to ship it. Search for my other posts on that topic. As far as the Lee dies, they work great. However, they do not work with the Hornady powder measure. I just use a Lee powder measure instead (I already had several). They are cheap and work reasonable well.
  7. If you bag it between stages this won't happen.
  8. I sent mine several weeks ago. Looking at the tracking info, it seems to have taken a small detour. They had it 'out for delivery' in Reno one day, then back on track toward Vegas the next. Oops.
  9. Oh, I would gladly bag/unbag at the safety area IF it is in the bay. I never realized some places had one in every bay. I've never had that luxury. Everywhere I've been the safety areas are usually a few bays away. I really hope they have one in each bay at the Nationals. That would be so convenient!!
  10. Coming from someone with a chronic back problem, that normally feels fine but flairs up after unexplained stress, I can't believe how anal you guys are being about it. It takes about 5 seconds, at most, to bag or unbag the gun. I've seen some shooters take longer than that just checking and rechecking their dot and doing their little pre-stage ritual. You all seem to put up with that without complaint. Safety aside, do we really want to be so anal and inflexible that we make people feel unwelcome and take all the fun out of it? Safety first, then fun! Otherwise, what's the point? I bag between every stage. It helps keep my back out of pain, keeps my belt around my waste instead of ankles, and gives me more time to paste and set targets, load magazines, and generally participate in a positive manner. If I was asked to go to the safety area to re-bag, or kicked out of the lineup because my gun was in a bag, I wouldn't make a big thing of it. However, I would then also add that RO to the list of people that I prefer to avoid, instead of people I want to spend time with. Plain and simple.
  11. If you find a smaller hotel (non-chain) or B&B or something that looks attractive, you might call and inquire as to the type of guests to which they cater. You might find that people of certain lifestyles gravitate to certain establishments. Of course, you may or may not care about such things.
  12. Yea, my 600 rounds of 38 super were 20lbs, including the box... should be below 11lbs by then.
  13. Sorry guys, I can't find the thread, but I vividly remember it... There was a video and huge discussion on Michael Voigt facing uprange, draw THEN turn. A bunch of people were accusing him of breaking the rules and not getting called on it, but it ended up there were provisions for it in the rulebook. Is my memory correct? Does anyone else remember that video/thread? Did the rules change?
  14. For me, it is all about brass recovery. I need to get back as much of my 38TJ brass as possible. I like to stripe my brass around the body (not the head), so it can be more easily seen and picked up. With the lube, I can still strip them, but it seems to 'burn off' or wear off during loading and firing. If I clean the lube from the loaded ammo, then stripe, it stays on much better.
  15. I have smaller hands, but I don't have trouble reaching the current trigger. I would like a tighter and better designed trigger, but don't feel the need for a shorter one. I have much more trouble with the magazine release and my short thumbs. Drilling and tapping that puppy is a royal pain, and I refuse to blow more cash after two unsuccessful attempts at extended releases.
  16. If you're on LSD, they are easy to read!
  17. I'm always paranoid about this with my scuba gear. It is large and heavy and costs more money than my race gun. Loosing it can be costly, and make uncomfortable and less safe diving (rental gear). Usually, traveling from the pacific northwest to warm water diving requires two or three plane changes. I always put two or three extra luggage ID tags on all my bags. It is amazing how many times my luggage looses an ID tag. I know that they have that barcode thingy on there, but if the ID tags can get ripped off, so can those barcodes. I put one on each handle, and try to find a small zipper I can tie-wrap closed with a tag attached. Now, here's the important part. Don't just put your business card in the ID tag, put your TRAVEL ITINERARY, cell phone, and email address. I also print my itinerary and contact information on paper and put it inside my luggage. If it is lost, and they open it looking for ID, they find all my info. Mind you, all these precautions don't reduce the chances of your luggage missing a conneciton and being late, but they do help keep it from the dark abyss where unclaimed luggage goes to die.
  18. We're staying at Circus-Circus cause it's cheap. As long as it has a decent bed and damn good AC, it'll do just fine. Chris, it depends what you're looking for, and if you're bringing the wife. Circuis Circus is by far the cheapest. I'd check out the Sahara for a similar price, which I think is nicer. If your bring someone with you, it is nice to say on the strip, so they can walk between hotels and spend time sightseeing. If you're coming along and will be at the match all day, hotel location doesn't matter as much. I like the middle/south end of the strip for strolling between hotels to sightsee. The north end of the strip (the Winn not withstanding) has older, more historic hotels.
  19. How much volume is 4.5 gr on N320? Is it enough to substantially fill the case, or just a dusting on the bottom? The reason I ask is that I've found it much easier to visually inspect the powder since I switched to 38 super. With 7.5gr of 7625, my cases are 3/4 full, and I can see and watch the charge variation from one shell to the next. When I was loading 45ACP with titegroup, I was lucky to be able to see the powder at the bottom of the case, and could not make a judgement on volume. Too bad the 550b doesn't have a 5th station for a powder cop. Maybe you could seat and crimp in the last stage, and add a powder cop in position 3.
  20. Higher attendence? Do more people shoot open/prod and therefore require more time for the match?
  21. Nothing of any fun. Just a few faded maps and hotel info.
  22. Anyone going to the Open/Production Nationals? Shooting a Tanfoglio? Wanna have a group activity? We could arrange to meet for drinks or dinner or just a social hour.
  23. There's a lot of free video and image capture software with a 'motion activated' feature. I googled and found a bunch right away: http://3d2f.com/tags/motion/activated/software/ Most cheap USB cameras are sensitive to IR. Unfortunately, they usually have an IR filter too. I've read instrucitons online on how to remove the filter. Some USB cameras actually come with IR LED for night vision, but those cost a little more. If your lawn mower area is lighted, just use a reglular cheap USB camera from Kmart. USB extension cables are good to 15-20 feet, but may cost more than the camera. Wireless will drive the cost up some, and you might need to setup a wireless network (802.11) to get the image back to the computer.
  24. Step 1: Yahoo Yellow Pages Step 2: Location = Las Vegas, NV Step 3: Enter "Rental Car" into Search There's about a half dozen (at least) on Fremont Street. Rich I thought about trying to rent a car 'off airport'. The trouble is that it is more hassle than it is worth, and the savings doesn't measure up for me. It is a hassle traveling to one of the 'remote' sites. None of the hotel shuttle busses are free unless you are a guest, and a taxi is more than the 'off airport' savings. The idea of taking a shuttle bus from McCarin to Freemont St, then rent a car, then drive back to The Orleans seems a little complicated. That's the whole way across town and back. Plus, you have to do the whole thing in reverse when you fly home. The only way it would really work well was if the Orleans had an in-house car rental desk, or if you were staying for a long time, and only renting a car for the match days. I booked a rental car via priceline for $153 including taxes through Avis. They have a free airport shuttle pickup, and you don't have to go far from the match hotel. I have my own personal car, can make a run to Walmart or Cabelas, and don't have to wait on some guy that overslept.
