  1. I am currently shooting WST and 200 grain TC cast bullets in my Single Stacks 40 calibers. I really like the 200 grainers compared to the 180 grainers in my Single Stacks. The 200s are a little more "pushy" and the 180s are more "snappy". Strangely enough, I prefer the 18os in my STI Limited gun.
  2. Ramshot Competition is reverse temp sensitive. (slower as temp gets hotter)
  3. You guys are great! Thanks so much for sharing. Us Single Stack guys need to stick together. Dave
  4. You guys using 45 ACP slide stops or 9mm/38 super trimmed to length?
  5. I have one of the first 40 caliber STI Trojans the STI produced and an early (pre-series II) 40 caliber Kimber, both single stacks. The Trojan went to Tripp for a feed ramp reconfiguration 3 or 4 years ago and I fit a Kart barrel to the Kimber. Both guns are very accurate. I have fought magazines and slide stops with both guns over the years. The biggest problems I have encountered center around the slide locking back with rounds left in the magazine and/or the slide not locking back when the magazine is empty. I have used MecGar 40 caliber, Metalform 40 caliber and 10mm, Chip McCormick 10mm, early production Tripp 10/40s and second generation Tripp 10/40 (I even replaced the followers with the latest Tripp split follower design). Maybe I am asking to much, but I want 45 ACP reliability with my 40 single stacks. I am hesitant to invest in 10 new Tripp Cobra mags and have the same issue. What have you guys found that works the best for you? Thanks Dave
  6. If your using a 6 o'clock hold, try covering what you want to hit with the front sight. Or, install shorter front sight or taller rear sight.
  7. 125 grain lead round nose and 4.2 - 4.3 grains of WST. Load to 1.130 OAL. Makes about 1075 fps out of my 5 inch barrel.
  8. I am pretty sure it is an old Ed Brown. I currently have an old "non-bump" Ed Brown on an old Springfield 1911 45.
  9. I think WST is cleaner and less smoky with cast bullets (but what do I know?). But I will agree that it is temp sensitive. I have a bunch of Solo 1000 and looking for more WST.
  10. Yep, your missing the pain in the butt that thing used to be. If it works, go for it.
  11. What is your overall length? If you think 3.0 grains of WST is too much, what were you planning on using? What max velocity did you get? I used to load a 220 grain 40 caliber over Clays (won't say how much) but off the top of my head, I do think you have an over pressure situation with 3.0 grains of WST. I don't think you are not getting a clean burn. 3.0 grains of WST is a pretty light charge and as the the 45 colt guys know, you can blow the top strap off a single action revolver using too lite of a charge.
  12. Don't know if it will help, but I used 3.2 grains of American Select with a 147 grain flat nose cast bullet. I loaded to 1.50 OAL and got 925 fps. The load shot good, but was a little smokey with the cast bullet.
  13. If the bullets are sized @ .401, not loaded too long for your given chamber/lead and you are not cocking the bullet side ways when inserting it in the case, I would look at the different chamber tolerances in your barrels. While I do have a Lee FCD, I do not use it. I have decided it is not the answer to inconsistent sized reloaded ammunition. I open up my 40 caliber chambers a little to eliminate the problem you are experiencing. Edited to clear up my above statement. Properly loaded/sized ammunition is the answer. I open my chambers (a tiny bit) to ensure they are all the same size and that eliminates the problem of the ammo working in some chambers and not others.
  14. Buy the Para mags and only cry once.
  15. I use a 10# with a 155 grain bullet @ 135 PF. I have also had sucess with a 12.5#.
  16. You will have to "adjust" the portion of the follower that is supposed to make contact with the slide stop. Compare the follower on the working mags with the non-working mags. You will see the "stepped down" portion of the working mag follower is closer to the outside of the mag tube. Be careful, because you can break the follower.
  17. I load this bullet at 1.240. Works in all my 45s.
  18. WST and Solo 1000 are the least smoky with lead bullets. They both shoot good also.
  19. WST and Solo 1000 are my favorites. They seem to smoke less with cast bullets than most other powders.
  20. http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDeta...0000-1094593468 This one worked for me. Yes it is the .105, but I liked the sight picture with the Warren rear.
  21. 155 grain cast bullet on top of 3.8 grains of WST/OAL 1.135= 920 feet per second. Very accurate/Great production load.
  22. The Winchester primers should work alot better. I have been using WSPs/200 grain lead bullets on top of 3.8 grains of WST (1.135 OAL) ever since the PF dropped to 165. It's a great 40 caliber load.
  23. Any numbers for WST an a moly 200 grain bullet? Thanks I load 3.8 grains of WST with a 205 grain 40 caliber cast/moly bullet. OAL = 1.135. Or 4.2 grains of WST with a 205 grain 40 caliber cast/moly bullet. OAL = 1.200.
