  1. Nice. John makes great stuff, and is on the short list for any future gun builds.
  2. Hard Chrome. IMHO, hard chrome and the black alumagrips / Trugrip looks awesome.
  3. Here you go. The best grip around, IMHO.
  4. Alumagrips with skate tape straight on them are great. No machining necessary.
  5. I bought a Supernova to replace my 590 for 3-gun. Pros: Chokes Slicker action (basically pumps itself backwards on recoil) Longer barrel Reloading- can fit 2 shells in port at a time More versatile- I could easily shoot skeet, trap or hund with this due to the chokes and barrel. Cons: More money Parts harder to find Can't fit very many shells on side of receiver Safety (can be a pro or a con depending on your preference)
  6. I recently had to switch to Titegroup from WST due to shortage of powder in my area. With WST, I experience no bad rounds in approximately 4k. Since switching to Titegroup; I have experienced 7-8 low powder rounds, including 2 squibs lodged in the barrel, in less than 2k. Additionally, when weighing powder throws, the Titegroup is very inconsistant in its weight; occasionally being off (light) by as much as .7 gr. Obviously, the squibs are my fault for not paying attention to the weight of every round I load, but it is disconcerting that I have had so many problems with this powder. Is it a metering problem with Titegroup or all me? Has anyone else had problems with Titegroup metering through a 550?
  7. Simple, smooth alumagrips and Trugrip. Done and done.
  8. De-humanizing the enemy is human nature. Read On Killing by Dave Grossman. Both sides of the war were incredibly racist. Its betrayal to the veterans to not know your history and assume America was never in the wrong. Edited to add: Back on topic, I am very much looking forward to seeing this series. Anything about my fellow Marines that also incorporates sex and flamethrowers is good in my book.
  9. Alumagrips with skate tape for me. And, unless you are some HSLD legit dude, skulls/ barb wire/ etc are retarded. Unless you ARE the punisher, don't get the logo.
  10. Wasn't there some mathmatical formula that determined a heavier, slower moving bullet causes less recoil? Obviously, recoil is perception and probably 70% the shooter, but when the equal and opposite reaction is against a known mass (i.e. a slide) wouldn't lower velocities cause lower percieved recoil? I have been thinking about this alot, but have neither the brains or the physics background to wrap my mind around it. I think it goes something like this: If a light, fast bullet causes a 'equal and opposite reaction' against a fixed slide weight, wouldn't it cause higher slide velocities thereby increasing felt recoil. Therefore: a slow, heavy bullet causing slower slide velocities would cause less felt recoil. Of course the big factor here is spring rates acting opposite the slide's ability to move rearward, which is why lighter springs cause more energy to be transferred to the weight of the slide versus the weight of the spring- hence less muzzle flip. Somebody with a physics or math background please feel free to stomp on my thinking in the name of faster shooting.
  11. Thanks, Brad. I think I might have to place a sizeable order and churn some more rounds out. Out of curiosity, how do they compare to BBI moly coated? Any experience?
  12. Totally normal. I shove the clip down with my thumb, twist my hand to pull my thumb out of the way and whack the rear of the charging handle with my palm. Seems to work as I haven't gotten 'M1 Thumb' yet.
  13. How do y'all like Billy's? They are moly coated right? I am happy with BBI out of my .45, but Billy's are a good bit cheaper.
  14. Chrono'd 180 Extreme plated bullets this weekend. Wolf primer, 1.135 OAL with varying Titegroup powder charges. Gun is a Glock 22, factory barrel. 3.5 (for production: Minor, but in the 145 PF range. Felt kind of snappy, but I had a factory spring in. 4.0 Not major 4.2 Not major 4.4 Varying, with big velocity differences. About half and half above and below the PF line. 4.6 All above PF, but still with big velocity differences. In the end, I adjusted for 4.5 grains of Titegroup and called it good. I don't really like this powder. Felt very snappy, and seemed to meter very poorly in my 550B.
  15. A surplus FAL, G3 or Garand all cost equivalent to a decent starter AR. Then don't buy a 1911- buy a Glock 21. Or buy a budget 1911 ala a Spartan, Taurus or SA basic. True, ammo is typically a bit more- but it is for a major caliber. Not to get off topic, but if rules were amended to give major shooters (or at least HM shooters for the .30 Gremlin types out there.) a rough parity, then it would be easier for beginners; see the thread about single shots for HM shooters. The other factor is the much lessened gear race for HM; there is no impetus to buy 50 round mags, crazy scopes, or heavily modded guns. I compete with a stock (plus compensator) Garand, Benelli Supernova (with extension) and could easily do it with a stock Spartan or SA gov't model. Is ammo cost an issue? Of course, but I don't have the desire, or much ability to throw more cash into a 60 year old rifle or pretty much any pump gun.
  16. .44 or larger pistol, 8 or ten round capacity, no design restrictions. Shotgun has got to be a pump- there isn't any other place to shoot one and still be competitive (unless youare Pat Kelly) Rifle: .308 or larger; irons only. If you need a scope to see, there are other divisions (or an eye surgery center ) to go to. He man has the most potential for new shooters since it doesn't require an overpriced scope, semi auto shotgun, or crazy pistol. If I wanted to get cheeky, I would say say 8 round capacity on rifles. Garand Shooters Unite.
  17. Thanks, gents. I guess I will just have to go without. Too bad there isn't a good source for something like this.
  18. Anybody have any personal experience with the EGW one? I'm guessing it precludes use of the laynard?
  19. Any good places to get a 92FS magazine well from? I found one a while ago, but I believe it was weld on- a no go for a service gun. Has anyone seen one that goes on easy and still allows for a laynard loop? Perhaps screwed on underneath the grip screws... It is going on an issued weapon, so no permanent modifications are allowed.
  20. By law, if you receive something through the mail that you didn't request or order, it's yours. YOU should not have gotten the address wrong on something so important. So by law, if you sign for something with someone else's name on it, you are good? I take responsibility (and ate the cost) for my mistake, but what's the point of signing for something if that signature isn't who it was addressed to and no legal ramifications exist for someone signing fraudulently? Not to get off topic...
  21. Its no wonder that the USPS is downsizing- they just plain suck. Several years ago I sold an AR upper and sent it USPS; I flipped one of the digits in the address and yet they still delivered it to the wrong address, thereby the wrong person, despite the fact it was insured and had to be signed for to be delivered. What's the point of a signature required if they will just give it to whomever signs for it. To make matters worse, they wouldn't release the signature form to me so I could have local law enforcement take care of the person fraudulently signing for something they didn't order.
  22. The visual effects were spectacular, but the storyline was complete and utter crap. All the characters were completely one dimensional and rediculous. A five year old could write better than that. From the blatantly liberal and partisan cliches such as "shock and awe," to the unbelievably patronizing view of the military's mindset and education, this movie was offensive. Not to mention the egregious slander poured on my fellow Marines. Where have the good writers gone? It clearly could have been a great movie (and has already racked up the cash of one) but hire some writers or something. For a hilarious and very poignant, well thought out review, search for avatar review on youtube. Same guy did one on Star Wars Episode I that kept me laughing for days.
  23. Great Grand-Uncle's Original Quality M1 Carbine- he carried it as an Army Officer in the Phillipines in WWII. Its absolutely cherry: no rust, gorgeous wood and still has 95% of the original finish. Plus it is a blast to shoot.
