  1. Are you using standard USPSA divisions? Can I get away with using 10 round mags in my SS, since the courses will be like 60+ rds?
  2. A couple things: I want to install some XS shotgun sights on a aftermarket no-rib Supernova barrel; is the best way to weld them on or is there an adapter I'm not seeing somewhere? Also, I got a 10/22 to go onto my vent rib barrel, anyone have a recommendation for a good gunsmith in SoCal who can dovetail? (hopefully San Bernadino / Palm Springs but NOT Tim's Guns) XS are the ones in the lower left: http://www.xssights.com/index.php?nID=sights&cID=Sights&pID=sights&sID=shotgun Thanks!
  3. They had to hold all new trials; weren't just add-ons from a previous contract. Its a non-issue. MARSOC already uses whatever weapons they want to, 'approved' or not- don't forget they are part of SOCOM. And no one to my knowledge is still using M14s these days. They were a terribly executed stopgap at their time anyway. This pistol buy was short sighted and silly, quite frankly.
  4. Ugh. Didn't keep the chrono readings... somewhere in the 2600 range. The charge is the very bottom of the scale for .308.
  5. Alright, so the saga continues... loaded about 20 round with pulled M80 145gr FMJs, BLC2 @ 45.0 gr, fed primers, 2.789 OAL. Brass is surplus Lake City MG. Brass gauged well in Dillon case gauge. 19 of them fired fine, but had one fail to extract. Extractor is fine; just jammed in the chamber real good. Rifle is a M1A loaded with about 200rds through it total. I mortared it and it came out. No real marks besides some heavy carbon on the neck. I had some similar problems with some dummy rounds I made up, but thought I had fixed it. Rifle issue? Dirty chamber? Or maybe they are sized weird? Pictures to follow.
  6. Dremel open the loading port, stipple the forearm, and add a FO front sight. I got the Mesa Stock and shellholder for it, but it isn't worth it. Recommend a 3gun gear panel and some sticky velcro. I'm about to get a rifle sight dovetailed onto the rib to replace the crappy screw on one, and I'll update once it's done. Also, if you want to double duty it for home defense, Cabela's has Carlson brand 18" barrels- screw choke, good finish- for about $200. Benelli ones are unobtanium.
  7. I find this topic hilarious- it's three gun, not an adventure race. If you don't want to look like a mall ninja with super-tacticular-operator-sniper-recon pants, I'd suggest railriders- very comfortable, tough and they don't make you look like a tool. I've had a pair of shorts going on three years. http://www.railriders.com/
  8. I've owned a few different brands. FWIW, the Surefire (can't remember model number- its like a metal Z2 with a clip) I bought in 2003 is still going strong. The Fenix', Digilights, and el cheapo brands not so much. In the end, probably would have been more cost effective to just buy quality.
  9. If you can qualify, go USAA. Absolutely love them for banking and insurance.
  10. Looks pretty solid on IMDB. Harrison Ford should be good. I'm not sure what I think of Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham, but he is an incredible actor. I am really looking forward to this.
  11. I'm at #258. Wasn't smart enough to hop on earlier. ...But I only live 3 hours away.
  12. You might think about staying on one kind of powder, lest you get wires crossed. Titegroup is spiky if weight isn't correct. I love WST and run it in .45, .40 and 9mm, but it won't make major in a 22 or 23.
  13. It's the factory fiberglass/plastic stock; I'll be adding Magpul MOE plastic rails to attach it to.
  14. So either the blade came backwards from the factory, or the two top bolts were so loose as to affect function. On a brand new machine. It is now trimming correctly, but the hundred or so cases I've already done are now useless. My own fault for trusting a new machine, I guess.
  15. The pin isn't unscrewing from the expander ball. The excess material is going into the case; kinda looks like the blade angle may be off. The excess material means the case won't slide on the swage rod. Thoughts? Also, the brass is not spinning under the trimmer...
  16. The pin part isn't seperating from the neck expander- is it alright just vise down on the ball? Trimmer is brand new, was holding for a second or two already- it appears all he material just pushes down inside and doesn't really cut clean- is this normal?
  17. Alright, so I've been loading pistol for a number of years, and am now trying my hand at rifle (.308 only currently.) I have a Dillon 550B, Dillon trimmer, and Dillon Super Swage. I reload surplus military ammo. A couple of questions: My plan is to do brass prep and loading on two toolheads for the 550. The first one sizes/deprimes (Dillon sizing/depriming die), and trims (Dillon trimmer.) After I have a load of deprimed/trimmed cases, I swage the primer pocket... which brings up the first question- the trimmed cases don't fit on the Super Swage rod. Do I need to chamfer or deburr first? I tumble using medium grain white rice- since it is large than the other tumbling media, do I still need to run it through a universal depriming die prior to loading? And the final question... after doing the first two steps I already broke a decapping pin. How do I switch out the Dillon decapping pin for it's spare? Any way to not break pins in crimped military primers? Thanks, all.
  18. Just upgraded the Garand to the M1A for 3-gun. A couple of questions for the experts out there: Anyone use the Magpul AFG for this? I run one on my work M4 and like it- was thinking of running it in conjunction with a *thumb rest [generic]*- any thoughts? The sling is just in the wrong place for me- anyone had experience with putting a rail on the bottom? Also, I'd like to mount a light on the side- anyone put an accessory rail on the side of the stock right below the handguard? Thoughts on the extended mag release or bolt stop? Thanks all.
  19. What was up with the WW2 stuff? Don't get me wrong, it was well done, but totally unrelated.
  20. So the answer is for a new shooter to play in a division that makesa stock gun less competitive? All I am saying is score it like everything else, hell, if any division needs a difference it is Production- split times in limited or open guns don't really vary all that much with major vs minor. I find it funny that we are all about "DVC" except in the most likely division a new shooter will compete in. Then it's just speed and accuracy?
  21. I totally agree- maybe multiply your score by your measured power factor? I believe this is the way of the future- no minor/major shenanigans- just shoot and run what round feels right in your gun. All jokes aside, I think the "tactical" attitude of other disciplines turns alot of people off- at least it did with me. USPSA is all about the shooting and speed is speed. More pure, more 'legit' and easier to translate to non-shooters. We do the PR thing right.
  22. Why not just solve this inequity and score Production the exact same as the other divisions with major and minor scoring. Right now the guy who shows up with a .40 or .45 and factory ammo is at a disadvantage. I do think there should be more kicking guys to open who can't abide by the gear rules... yeah, talking to you fat guy who put his mag pouches under his gut.
  23. Not true. PMAGs are banned for Marines as well, due to incompatibility with IARs. And the 5 fingers thing is hilarious... why the lack of concentration on fat soldiers vice footwear is hilarious.
