  1. Here is basically a 4.15 tactical (although it started as a 5.0). When I cut the slide back I also cut the frame back to lighten it up a bit. The extended mag is a 126 (with 140 stock basepad), the flush mag is a 120. I can get 16 in the extended (.40) and 14 in the flush. As you can see, I cut the plastic magwell portion off the grip to shorten it some...a la VIP. The grip is now about as long as a G23. The back of the grip was the part that printed the most. I carry in a Milt Sparks Watch Six that is for a Glock 32,23,19. I added a T-nut, screw and piece of rubber hose as a trigger guard stop. The front of the trigger guard is shorter than on a Glock. You can do the same thing in a .45, but I wanted it light. I even carry lighter bullets (165's and 135's). Accurate little bugger too.
  2. A little late to this game...my first thought was slide stop. Second to the last round stoppage is classic for 2011's too. Almost always a mag/slidestop issue. If you like the way the gun feels with a 10# spring, go with it. Nothing wrong with that. Going heavier is rarely the answer to feed stoppages. IF it is, a little more work on the chamber mouth fixes it. If it was speratic, not always same round in the mag then I would think it was an over tight extractor. Sounds like you got it resolved though.
  3. On tighter shots, sometimes shooters will put more mental energy into perfect trigger pull and give up some recoil control to ensure the gun does NOT move until the shot breaks. I do this when shooting at 50y and 100y. I'm not worried about recoil management only perfect trigger manipulation and sight picture.
  4. If I haven't given you my copy of Saul's book, I need to. If you look at my classifiers you can tell exactly when I read it. We've talked about that book before, but sometimes we need a reminder... I think one of the issues is that as an RO, you spend all of your prep time on a stage running other shooters. It runs into your visualization time. Let's work on that in Ohio next weekend. Even on the seemingly simple stages I run through it in my head 10 times or more. That's the only way I was able to keep up with you on stage one. Here's another thought. When we were lower on the pecking order we had more experienced shooters around us to watch and learn from. Now that we can run up front with those very shooters, it means that to improve we have to figure it out for ourselves. Does that make sense?
  5. Another good outing for the skinny guns. Mucked up the classifier though, which sucks because....I'm...so close... 6. Who do I contact to cancel? I'm not able to make the date change. I sent my app in before the change.
  7. Your FAL has a notch rear? Mine is a peep. The best option is to swap the lower so you can use an AR rear BUIS. Other than that, get the DSA hooded peep, then drill it out slightly (or use as is, but I found it too small. If you have a close up stage, you can remove the hood and it's a HUGE peep. For the most part, the sights aren't the limiting factor.
  8. Posting it here for future reference as well as to share. I'm running a 4.5" barrel with EGW 7 port cone comp. 135gr bullet over 7.4gr of Universal Clays averaged 179.9PF at the Indiana Sectional chrono station. I was told it was about 5pf higher than the Skeeters set up though. This is still under the max load in my 10mm/.40 reloading pocket guide. I need 1250fps for 168pf. I added a port .5" back from the first baffle, .25" from the end of the barrel (for other reasons) and I will try dropping .2gr to see what that feels like.
  9. I've strained my back stepping off a cub, and sneezing before. I have issues, but those are just embarrasing. I use a foam roller to roll my back. You can get them at most sporting good/gym equipement stores. They work.
  10. Results posted. Not bad, but I realize I'm not yet taking full advantage of the open gun. 4th A, 9th overall of 39 shooters. I was just 36 points from 3rd overall, 1st A. 3rd through 9th was very tight. "A chase is a race", and this one was fun.
  11. This was my first major event shooting open. Shot my open .40 (aka "rat gun"). Late in the day I had two stages in a row with light strikes. Swapped out the firing pin and solved the problem. My Ltd gun had the ext. FP in it. I lost major points on a stage because I changed my shooting style thinking the dot would make up for it. Wrong. In fact it's the first stage in the video. I was about 5 seconds off the pace I should have been on. Learning point taken. I met my goal for the match for the most part. I had one mike and that was my only penalty on the day. I had some difficulty finding the dot two or three times but that will improve the more I shoot it. Still waiting on the final results to be posted, I'll update here if it's good news. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZTg0OYuv20
  12. Nice gun, but it's not a sight tracker is it? I fluted my 6 inch bull barrel. It doesn't reduce enough weight to make it worth it. After I fluted it, I then turned it down to mimic a cone style barrel. Only then was a light enough for my preference. I like the vented rib idea for the sight tracker barrel though.
  13. I hacksawed a gun, and it still put 5 into 1.3" at 25 with carry sights. Witnessed by Steel12 even. Anything smaller than 2 at 25 is acceptable for me. I don't shoot at 50, but I need to before Pro-am... I don't know that I can see well enough at 50 for a 3" group, but I'll make that my goal.
  14. Some Heavy Metal, gotta represent the big bore's. Sans music. I like to hear bullets. Thanks Corey! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve_P9Jn9_hs...re=channel_page Video is good for AAR's. Gotta remember the pump gun won't go on safe with the hammer down...
  15. I won't join the "this vs that" arguement (other than my SLP refused to run field loads...lol), but thanks for the sight pics! I was just discussing doing this.
  16. Awesome match. I don't shoot 3 gun much, but this match makes me want to shoot more! ..and get a more accurate barrel for my FAL. Sorry to Ken, again, for my 399.9 power factor through a comped .308 at the chrono.
  17. Can you post a pic of the rear sight you did?
  18. I built an open gun just so I could shoot this match twice. Can't wait.
  19. I feel your pain. I was changing my son on his changing table, which was located 5 feet from his bedroom door. He was just a baby then. He let go with a violent "goose poop" while I had his feet in the air so I could put the diaper under him. Hit nailed the door! This happened to me TWICE!
  20. Add a transition to your reload drill, or add movement. Stop THINKING about the reload and it will find it's home. ...and cut out the 340 calorie Mountain Dews. Or make the switch. You know what I'm talking about.
  21. Comp is an EGW. It works ok, I just have some ideas I want to try. Always thinking of the better mousetrap.
  22. Found an old beater FS and swooped it up. It needed some serious work, but will make a nice back up gun. Borrowed some time with a blueing tank and dunked both the beater and the stroker I built. You can tell the stroker by the slightly longer dust cover. No, I'm not trying to copy SV's aluminum grip pattern. I started stippling grips like this before those were made public. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  23. I will be blasting the open gun at a classifier match in Ohio next weekend in preperation for the Open division at the IN state match and the ProAM. A new, custom comp is in the works too.
