  1. I thought about trying to reload 357 Sig, but never got around to it. I have about 2,500 pieces of onced fired brass. What's it worth? PM me if this is too much of a thread drift.
  2. A wise old bullseye shooter told me once the three most important things on a gun are: 1. Grips 2. Sights 3. Trigger Grips are like the tires on a race car. It's where the rubber meets the road, if you will. You wouldn't buy a $250,000.00 hot-rod and put re-treads on it. Put some thought into what feels good in your hands. Imagine the countless hours Jerry Miculek put into his signature grips. They fit his hands perfectly. I bought a pair and honed them down for my hands and it makes a tremendous difference. And, it's not just in recoil management, either. When I remove material from the front-strap it changes the pitch of the muzzle when it comes out of the holster radically. I remove enough material so that when I present the gun to the target the front sight comes into the rear without overshooting it, thus a quicker, more accurate first shot. It also affects my first shot coming out of a reload. The same is true whether we're talking semi, or revolver. The big gun makers know this and have started shipping interchangeable backstraps with their guns. Grips are a huge piece to the shooting puzzle, and this barely touches on it. Hope this helps.
  3. What charge are you throwing with 231 for your 9mm with 124's?
  4. I was working up some loads for my new CZ, Shadow SP-01. I looked around my old stock to see what I needed to get rid of and came up with some Delta Precision 115 gr jrn. I used 5.1 of WSF and it was extremely tight on the chrno. It was a smooth feeling 131 and change PF. Try some of that. Seems like I was loading around 4.5 for a 124 Precision (Black) bullet years ago. Hope this helps.
  5. Old? Well, maybe, a little. Fat? No, not really. Slow??? HELL NO! Don't let Bubber fool you. He's like greased lightning with that wheelie of his. Oh, and get an 8-shot if you can. You'll always be thinking you should've gotten one if you don't. Steel Challenge has 5 shots in it. We do SC stages in ICORE, so you'll run into that alot. 8 rounds is nice on a five shot array. Hope this helps.
  6. Remington makes great 45 acp brass, as well. Nice, beveled opening for the primer. It's real easy to load. Try and get some for your big match stash.
  7. You can spray the front and back without removing your gun from the holster. I spray it before every stage and I don't hold up the match. It takes about 3 seconds to dry and will smudge if you touch it. I don't run fiber optics, just metal sights and I've never seen a finish that's better than what's in that little bottle. If they could make a product that wouldn't smudge as much that would be cool. It would sell, big time. Noboby's pulling your leg, although I can understand why you would think so.
  8. That's very impressive you made B class with that revolver. Goes to show, it's not as much about equipment as it is the shooter. Cheers!
  9. Sight black is used to keep the glare off your sights. It works better than any dark finish and helps where the shiny spots are on the sights. It's favored mostly by the old-school crowd..which I refuse to admit I'm old enough to be in!
  10. As Gomer in the Andy Griffith Show would say..."shame...Shame...SHAME!!!" Seriously, I married my wife 6 days after I shot my first match in 1989. She laughs when I affectionately refer to her as my second wife!!! She's the best at supporting my love for the sport, though.
  11. Sounds like "crimped" primer pockets in the brass you are talking about. You can remove the crimp with a hand tool one at a time. We used to do that on 45acp. I reload a great deal of 9mm and I like RP the best as it has a nice, beveled pocket opening. I also will load Winchester whitebox and Federal without the crimp.
  12. Oh, and bubber is completely insane. He is fun to drink beer with, as well!
  13. You should try some ICORE matches, as well. While I don't shoot revolver in USPSA (I shoot Production), I so enjoy the game of ICORE. It's all about accuracy and gun handling. Welcome to the wheelie fraternity.
  14. I have a new CZ Shadow, as well. I wondered about the same thing in single action mode, the double action doesn't bother me as I shoot lots of ICORE revolver. It just seems such a long time to the actual breaking point of the shot in single. My gun was done in the CZ Custom shop. There's almost no creep in the trigger once it's there...it's super nice...it's just getting to that point that seems to take forever. I'm coming off shooting Vanek trigger in a G-17 that was awsome, so I may have to just get used to this different platform. Like Stefano says, any ideas?
  15. I just bought a Shadow from Angus & Co. Thanks for this info.
  16. Tom Duchmann of Action Shooting Supply gives us some great deals. 504-458-0093
  17. He's right. The 147 gr Precision bullet with 3.2 grains of Clay's Universal is a bunny fart load that chronos 132.5 out of a G-17/G-34.
  18. NRA Lifer USPSA Lifer ICORE Lifer I hate paying yearly.
  19. If the guy is cheating, it'll catch up to him. It always does. He won't get away with that at a big match. More importantly, there is no advantage to going sub-minor in Production. The reason being poppers, especially at a big match. They tend to go heavy as the match progresses and may not go down. I load my stuff around 132 pf. When I hit a popper I want it to go down with authority---I don't want to stand there and look at if I need to move on to the next shooting area. The other reason is that I like a quicker cycle of the hotter loads; it helps my rhythm and I have better splits. So, you see, the guy may be putting himself at a disadvantage. Focus on your shooting and you'll pass him in no time the right way.
  20. Dude, Get a Vanek. It's the best in the world with customer service second to none.
  21. I didn't know the man, but from the posts I've read, he was a good guy. Deepest sympathies from down South.
