  1. I have been using Wilson .38 Super mags in my Springfield loaded 9mm and they work really well. The only failure I have had was with Remington factory loaded green box 115's, which are loaded very short OAL any way. These mags have also worked well for longer 147gr loads. I just recently bought some Wilson 10rd 9mm mags and they have been flawless with 115's.
  2. I have owned half a dozen holsters from Comp-Tac as well. I think they make as good a kydex holster as you can get. I am not holding them responsible for the condition of this holster. I was just a little surprised by their FU attitude when I called them and explained my problem. It went something like this "You didn't buy it from us, you didn't buy it from a dealer, you don't have a receipt, FU!" Now compare that to Dillon, where the conversation would go something like this, "you bought it from a friend and don't have a receipt? Send it in, we'll fix it." or Aimpoint, where I just sent in my ML2 I bought used, back to Aimpoint, customer service was friendly and they fixed it. I guess we(shooters) may be spoiled by some of best customer service and support in the world. Companies like Dillon, Aimpoint, Leupold..., So how about this for a scenario. "Hey Jeff, send in that holster and we'll see what we can do, worst case we will sell you a brand new holster at a discount." I mean, we're talking $5 worth of plastic vs. the reputation of the company. Yes, they don't owe me a thing, but not even a "we'll try" or a tiny bit of courtesy. Is that the way you want all of the companies that we support in the shooting industry to start behaving? I'll take my lump, if Comp-Tac didn't make such a good holster, it would be easier to digest. I might even buy another holster from them. I would just rather buy a holster from them because of their customer service and not in spite of it. I am going to heat this thing up and try to mold it better to the pistol. I have nothing to lose! Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Jeff
  3. Orange foam plugs twisted and stuck in good in the summer, Peltor muffs in the winter, both under the range awning when bench shooting. Surefire sonic ears when I am hunting.
  4. I was at the Wanenmacher Gun Show in Tulsa and found an AS NEW in Bag, Comp-Tac paddle for a SIG P226R. I have a Comp-Tac belt holster for my P226 that I like, so I bought this paddle to use with my 226ST's with rails. Problem is, the holster fits like crap. It does not have the crisp molded lines like my other Comp-Tac holster. I called Comp-Tac and they said they didn't even want to look at it since I didn't buy it from a Comp-Tac dealer or have a receipt. That was a shocker, I mistakenly assumed they would be more of "Dillon" type policy and just tell me to send it in. I would have been happy if they said they will see what we can do but no guarantees but I just got attitude. I am going to curb my crappy customer service rant and move on to asking for help. Either the holster was molded poorly or it got baked and lost it's shape, not a retention screw issue just poor fit in general. Does anybody out there have some good steps for remolding this holster? Thanks for any suggestions. Jeff
  5. I finally handled one of the E2 226's at a gun show. I kind of have mixed feelings on the grip. Yes it is a little smaller around but it isn't narrowed up high enough and kind of lowers my hand down on the grip which is counterproductive with the already high bore line. I think I'll just play with some different grips for my existing pistols. Anybody that gets a chance to shoot one please report in!
  6. I have a couple of 226ST'S and one 226 German. Although the ST's shoot well, I think the Aluminum framed model shoots pretty good and is noticeably faster out of the holster. Bottom line IMO, I would look for a used 226 standard model as there are many out there at decent prices. If you buy a nice one, you can always get your money out of it if you move to a newer model.
  7. They definitely look cool. I do like the fact that they put an extended beavertail on the frame. At $200+ more for just a stripped frame and slide, the whole pistol(A Browinging MKIII) looks pretty good.
  8. I have 2-226ST's and 1-226 German I like to shoot, I would just like the grip to be a little smaller. I think SIG was reading my mind. Let me know how you like the E2.
  9. Missed the SHOT show, anybody handle the new 226 E2. I love shooting my 226's and this sounds like it may make a nice improvement.
  10. Heinie used to make nice serrated rear sights that were a little bigger than the Novaks. You might give them a call and see if they still have some.

    200 or 230

It's hard to beat the accuracy and clean .45" holes that the 200 SWC produces. I have a decent supply of Leadheads, hardcast 200 gr SWC's with old school lube. The hard lead shoots good and doesn't lead much. I do want to try some the the coated lead bullets.
  12. Thanks Toolguy, I hope that is all it is. I'll give it a good scrub.
  13. I picked up a really nice old model 19-3 at the last gun show. Tight gun, with very little muzzle or cylinder wear. Besides a Wiegand 640 that I hardly ever shoot, I haven't shot wheel guns for over 20 years. While shooting some factory 110 grain .357's, the cases were sticking in 5 out of 6 chambers. The primers didn't look like they were showing bad pressure signs but there seemed to be a slight lower case bulge. -Is this common or could the chambers be loose$ -Could it just be the 110's? They were all I had at the time. -Will other bullet weights behave differently? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I do intend to dust off the .357 dies and try other bullet weights and .38 loads shot great.
  14. Brian, My sincere condolences, I lost my mother just 3 years ago, she was just 65, so I can share in your experience. I take from it 2 things from my perspective. 1) To rejoice in the life that my mother lived. 2) To make the most of what this world has to offer while we here. God bless, Jeff
  15. You might try this set on sale at Midway for a ghost ring rear. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=109166 I love the trac lock sights and the rear may work great with your Hi Viz front. You need to drill and tap 2 holes. The rear is easy to adjust and stout.
  16. CDNN has Speedfeed combat forearms pretty cheap and usually has stock sets as well.
  17. You might try to find a friendly SIG armorer as along with the $99 for the SRT install you will also have to pay $69 for SIG's round trip shipping if it hasn't gone up. So it is going to cost $170 for just the SRT and no action job. It may make sense to find a gunsmith who can get the SRT parts and do an action job as well! I was fortunate enough to trade for a 226ST that had the SRT parts and an action job. Very Nice! Good luck.
  18. I am shooting a standard M&P9 and a Pro. Both need trigger jobs but shoot well. I got a pair of 10-8 rear sights waiting to go on both.
  19. I have 2 Cylinder and Slide custom High Powers. One with the factory trigger and a 5# trigger, the other with their 3.5# competition action and wide combat trigger. You can see the second sear lever pin hole in the slide that increases the leverage on the sear. It also has a beavertail that helps me immensely. I can highly recommend this pistol and C&S work. Especially the 3.5# action. It is very shootable.
  20. Thanks for the input. I think I'll get one for my 1911.
  21. SSS website doesn't have a picture of the aluminum base pads, anybody have a picture or link of these pads?
  22. thanks for the input. I'll try the set up with a fiber optic front first and then maybe a the u notch 10-8.
  23. I bought one several years ago for around $450. The slide to frame was unreal, probably hand fit. Knowing I would need $200+/- in parts to make it work for me, I sold it for $450 and bought a loaded stainless 9mm for $600 with 5 mags. Would have made a heck of a build as the hard part was already done. Good luck!
  24. I am considering switching out my black Heinie Slant Pros for a 10-8 rear and Dawson or Novak F/O front. Anyone shooting this combo please chime in. Jeff
  25. There are two reasons that people buy/shoot a particular pistol. 1. THE top shooter or A top shooter of a particular segment of the the sport, shoots a specific pistol. So everybody either wants to emulate that shooter or figures as a practical matter that the top shooter shoots that model of pistol so it must actually work the best! 2. The pistol actually does work the best in the eyes of many and the company that builds it actually supports one or many top shooters as well as the sport. Beretta didn't adequately support Langdon or Olhasso, thereby losing two great ambassadors of their product as well as the sport. To top that, they quit making the competition oriented Elite, Elite II and Elite Ia as well as the Vertec all together. They came out with the Elite III several years ago at the SHOT show and it had less features than the previous Elite models. (Going backwards is not my idea of evolution.) So Beretta is to blame for the 92/96 series lack of popularity. I like the pistols and have several. If you asked me to name the top 3 most reliable service autos that I have owned. It would be Beretta, SIG, and Glock. This is not a flame, just a fact.
