  1. I would say about the same as yours one or two every 1,000 rounds.
  2. Mikey, Jason Pettitt and I have used our ten shot 617 for the Rimfire pistol event at the Steel Challenge for many years with good results. Those revolvers need almost a totally stock main spring to be reliable. I bobbed the hammer on mine and it would only light off about 5 out of 10 rounds per cylinder. I installed an exstended firing pin, it did not help even after replacing the hammer, and the longer firing pin will hit your cylinder if you dry-fire the revolver. Good ammo is the key with these revolvers, I have used Wolf in my rifles, it is great ammo very reliable and very accurate. Wolf is hard to get out of the cylinder of my revolver for some reason, CCI Mini Mags work well but you need to have a full power main spring. I have also had good luck with the Walmart bulk pack Federal rounds. Remington has been easier to light off, but very inconsistent. I have opened up many mis-fired Remington .22Lr rounds to find the priming compound did not go all the way around the case rim. Good Luck!
  3. I have just use a screw driver and push on the main spring toward the top near the hammer and released the hammer. This way you don't have to mess with the setting of the main spring. It might be a good idea to get a hammer pull reading to keep so you can reset the spring should you ever have to make and adjustment.
  4. Hi Bruce, I have started shooting my 8-shot in L-10 in Richmond Ca. So far I have 2nd and a 1st. We don't have a lot of L-10 shooters so I don't know if I would be competitive at another club.
  5. I am going to try and get in on the waiting list!
  6. The 627 sounds like a good choice to me? Like you said it is great for ICORE and Steel. I have even shot bowling pins with mine.
  7. Both of my 8-shots are .38 Spl. but I have been told the 38 Super are faster when reloading the revolver. I have not changed just because I have a lot of .38 Spl. brass and don't want another caliber to reload. I own both an RCBS Ammo master and a Dillon 650 with a case feeder. If your going to do a lot of reloading the 650 with the case feeder is hard to beat.
  8. I would agree do not remove the trigger saftey, it can be trimmed to make it feel right and still function. I have just used a razor knife to shave the front of the trigger saftey to get the right feel. Just placed a small screw driver behind the trigger to depress the saftey, then just trim it down a little bit. Don't take off too much or the saftey may not disengage all the time.
  9. I think Buds Rev. is all stainless, but like you said his barrel is very small in dia. with no comp. Bud's draw is very quick, not to mention his shooting!
  10. I've worked on several guns and then hard-chromed them. On either a revo or auto, I would definitely advise doing the action/trigger job first, then sent it off to be plated, understanding that you may need to do a little minor touch-up after it gets back. My hard-chromed guns have some of the best actions I own. Good luck! I agree you want to get your gun all dailed in, then hard chrome it. Once it's hard chromed your stuck with it.
  11. I was looking through the forum and could not find this info. Is there a difference between the 9mm and the .40 striker? The .40 striker is marked 40 and the 9mm is not marked at all. They look the same to me and I have shot my 34 with a .40 stiker with no problems. Can anyone tell me the difference. Thanks John
  12. I have both a 22 and a 35, I like the 35 for several reasons. The 35 has a longer sight radius, it comes with the lighter trigger, adjustable sights, exstended slide stop and mag. release. These are all things you will end up changing on the 22 and still will not have the sight radius. Good Luck!
  13. Another question - Should I consider the 625? Seems like a lot of you guys like 'em. As far as ICORE goes, I would go with an 8-shot , but if the price is right the 6" 7-shot would work fine. I have not shot a revolver in USPSA shooting yet, but I am going to start this year. I have reading the forum and most guts seem to be using the 625. The 625 loads fast and will make the major power factor. I like longer barrels for the sight radius and accuracy. Good Luck! John
  14. I have always used the barrel to check match ammo. Most of the time I will find 1 or 2 rounds that don't drop in. In practice they usually will load fine with the slide closing on them. But is nice to know your match ammo all drop in. I am using a stock Glock barrel and a 650 press.
  15. Thanks Guys for all the info! If it does not rain tomorrow I am going try some 180gr Bear Creek Moly bullets with 2400 and Blue Dot. I will let you know how it goes! Well I went out and tried two different powders today. The first was 7.2gr of Blue Dot with a 180gr. Bear Creek bullet. That was going about 1010 FPS, 181.8,PF The other was 4.8gr of Bullseye with the 180gr Bear Creek. That was going 905 FPS, 162.9 PF These were all shot out of my 6.5" 627 (light barrel) In a .38spl. case with Federal primmers. I am so use to the 120 PF of ICORE, man I feel like a wimp!

  17. Hey Dan good too hear from you! If you get a chance give me a call, I would like too pick your brain , I left you a message on your answer machine last night!
  18. I will probably try some of the Blue dot or 2400 I have. I want to stay away from the Magnum loads because of too much recoil and the longer case won't help my reload times.
  19. On the subject of making major with a .38/357, Has anyone used Bullseye to make major in a .38 case with a 180gr. bullet? Am I asking for trouble or what? I remeber when Jason and I were loading 200gr. bullets at 200PF for bowling pins a few years ago but, we were using Blue dot then. I guess I am just cheap and lazy but, if I can I would like to stick with Bullseye.
  20. be careful, we don't want to scare John off, any revo shooter is a plus even if it's some guy who can give the best of the revo shooters on this side of the country a run for their money... and uh, lets be bringing that 610 out to the range next time bubba...we had a new shooter show up on Saturday with his Randy Lee 610, I shot it a few times, very nice action work, but it did make me scamper back to my "string & cork gun", lots of ommph in those 10mm factory loads.. but anyway, we got John, if he starts kicking our butts really bad, maybe we can trade him for 4 or 5 other revo shooters to some other club? where's glock boy Carden when we need him? mikey You guys can harrass me all you want! I guess I better start making excusses for my poor Revolver shooting now! Like I have not shot my Wheel gun since the Postal Match and before that the Steel Challenge (witch I did not shoot very good at all, I could not seem to pull my head out at the Challenge, I was lucky to get 3rd. And I have been shooting bottom feeders lately! Is that enough excusses or should I work on some more?
  21. Very ture I would hate getting my butt kicked by those bottom feeders! I will give the revolver class a try. Shooting .38s will I have to shoot minor right? Shooting minor will hopefully help keep me accurate and tuned up for ICORE. Been shooting a 627 in L10 for a little while, may try it in Production if nobody complains... John it's good to have you shooting with us in Richmond, we enjoy your company and besides being a really good shooter, you tape faster than those other guys.. mikey Thanks Mikey Hopefully I will have a Revolver on the next time I shoot in Richmond. I hate it when people don't tape and do their part.

  23. Does anyone know if the Adavatage Tactical sights (www.advantagetactical.com) are Prodution legal? They look like a pyramid, But they do have a notch in the rear and a triangular post in the front. Thanks John
  24. I shot the match this year and had a great time. I finished 7th or 8th in Limited and took a DPMS Lite 16 from the table and there were still at least 5 more rifles on the prize table. It was a great match with very friendly personal and shooters. The match is on the same weekend as the Steel Challenge in 2006 so I will not make it. Too bad I would like to shoot it agian!
