Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I bought over the internet a 4in. model 66-5 a couple of years ago. To my surprise it came with a heavy barrel (ala M65). As far as I'm concerned, K frames are perfect for this game (as long as they fit you) and the heavier barrel makes them even sweeter. Added SDM front, Ready Tactical holster and holders, few Comp III and an action job.
  2. Suicidal thoughts are vanishing !!! The gun obviously likes Berrys better than Rainiers (at least at 1.265 OAL). It has been shooting almost perfectly. I think the magazines are finally breaking in, and gun likes to be cleaned after every session. The only problem I had yesterday was one FTE the last round on one particular magazine. I will play around with 14/15 lbs. recoil springs as I'm shooting at around 170,000 PF. That will probably cure that mishap. The problem was, as far as I'm concerned, a combination of all the above factors.
  3. OAL is OK. My buddy, who reloads for me, also uses factory crimp, yada yada yada...
  4. Went to the range this morning and things seem to be developing the way I thought they would. First, magazines I had left loaded are getting in better, not perfect but much better. I think one more week of the same treatment and the spring will settle in enough for the mags to go in effortlessly. The gun seems to like Berrys better than Rainiers. Fewer FTF ocurred with Berrys, none with factory American Eagle. One last thing: I had one FTE with the loaded down Rainier. Perhaps, a 14 or 15lb. recoil spring will take care of this issue. And it needs to be solved, since I'll be shooting mostly reloads at around 170,000 PF. It snowing in NJ but sun shines within. No more jumping from ESB until next FTF anyway. THAT'S WHY I LIKE REVOLVERS.
  5. Dave: I still love my revos which is what I shoot more often, but also enjoy my Glocks and 1911. The bottom line is this. Cleaned gun and will hit the range this morning. I may purchase a CMC or a factory Kimber 8 rounder, factory ammo, reloads, etc. I'll give you report later on.
  6. They fail to go into battery. As I said, I've gotten over jumping from the ESB. I loaded mags with 8 rounds, will wait one week or so and then try with factory WWB and reloads. Magwell is well seated, does not interfere.
  7. Flyin40: The first mag did not jam and Wilson 47D do have a bumber pad. I seat them by slamming them in.
  8. I've recently gotten a near mint Stainless Gold Match Pre Series II. It came with a 7 round magazine made by God knows who. It worked flawlessly with 7+1. I tried to make it jam and couldn't despite shooting it gangster style weak handed, limp wristing strong handed, you name it with both factory WWB and reloads (RN Rainiers). Sure enough, I had an S&A magwell installed, changed front sight to a Dawson FO, and ordered 5 Wilson 47D mags. Today at the range, disaster, FTF, FTL, had to really slam mags in. It just would not function reliably. Took it home, cleaned it (I had not done it through 300 rounds) and meantime left all five new mags loaded with eight round to hopefully set mag springs. In sum, I know the topic must have been covered million times but what would you recommend? Jumping from the Empire State Building is not an alternative. But I wouldn't say it's not a big deal either. I want this thing to function properly. Do mags also need to be broken in? Any experience with Rainiers, Berrys, etc. What else is common in this cases? Thanks, Julio
  9. Another option for great kydex stuff is Talon Tactical.
  10. Are you guys OK? After almost 20 years living in this part of the world I thought I could speak English. By the way, I've been trying to find a similar thread in the other forums and I've not been able to. That's why I love revolvers!!!
  11. One more thing guys: cannot find the thread about those moonclip racks that one bolts to the belt. Who sells them? Are they worth the $110 price? Julio
  12. Oh, by the way which Millett rear/SDM FO front height combo works for you?
  13. I found today the above gun with a 5 in. barrel. Just what the doctor recommended for USPSA! It is in very good used shape, it has been fired, nice and tight, extra set of wooden grips, original box and 20 clips for $425. Could not resist; however, I'll be a couple more weeks before get permits to purchase two more handguns. Any comments on the -4? Things to look for? I own a 4in 625-3 which came with floating hand. Did that change with the -4s? Anything else? Cheers, Julio
  14. Haven't seen one but I've heard nothing but good things about new Dan Wessons. Good internals, as tight as any semi custom gun at half the price.
