  1. It's not very high, my middle finger is too close to wanting to sit on the mag release. I'll have to take some more pictures later. Tank, I have a spare 34 barrel I'm going to port for use in a pin(shaped plates) match, with iron sights. If you want I'll send you the specs of how big/where the holes are and how it works out if you're interested.
  2. The storm lake barrels have monster ports. If you do around .092 holes, you shouldn't loose much velocity. Better a velocity loss anyway, than shooting major9 uncomped. Specs on the above: 17c, finger grooves removed, slight high cut trigger guard, C-ports opened up to one rectangle KKM drop in barrel with SJC comp, 2 .125" ports, one in the cutout, the other in the enlarged front sight hole (still need to open it up more, getting some blast back through the cutout) Tru grip SJC mag button and slide racker Carver scope mount, opened up under the slide ride for more ejection room, also moved back. Standard slide release, cut down and polished. Dawson heavy ice magwell I added a pre and overtravel stop, took a little modifications to keep functioning safeties, but still breaks around 2#. With 8.8gr of HS-6 under a 115gr Win JHP, the dot barely twitches.
  3. I was referring to moving the whole slide ride base back. Here's where I have mine, it's on a 17 though. With a 34 I think most of your cutout would be in the clear if you moved it back this far.
  4. Tank, if you were to move that carver back further, you could port the stock barrel yourself. If the extra holes in the slide ride base bother you, they can be filled with JB weld or something similiar and refinished. I think with the base all the way back, you could get 8 or 10 V-ports in the 34 cutout without getting too far under the mount. With the mount all the way forward, you're pretty limited as to what you can do.
  5. I agree, how many mags you need depends on what division you plan on shooting. I would advise getting 1 more than you need, just so it's there if you need it. Run a few passes through it just to make sure it works and keep it as backup.
  6. You're supposed to clean compensators? But why? I got a black one for a reason...
  7. I use a comp-tac C-tac, with a standard clip in back, J-hook in front. Very comfortable, secure, and quick. This holster is the one that got me away from leather. For the most part I don't even notice it's plastic, but I do wear an undershirt most days, so nothing rubs.
  8. I'm not sure if Topglock gets their barrels finished from KKM or not. Since Zero's and Gold dots seem to chamber out as long as I can get them, and just certain bullets won't go out that long, I think it may just be short throating. Is there any way to tell for sure, if it just hasn't been finish reamed? What I'd really like to figure out, is if Zero 115's and 124's will work, without having to order 1000 of them. Does anyone know of a place I can order a smaller quantity? I ran some Gold dot 115's and 124's @ major with Hs-6 yesterday afternoon, and I think I'm back in limbo about 124 vs 115. Working up the charges, there were a couple spots I marked with each weight that shot super flat at minor, and I didn't really have enough loaded at major to do a lengthy comparison.
  9. I had to hide them right now, since I still need to clean up the hole in the slide for the front most one. The slide hole is a little small and I'm getting some directed back towards me, through the slide cutout. When it's done I'll make sure to show em.
  10. Just thought I'd post an update. I think she's almost done. It's my first project gun, so it's not very pretty, but it shoots. Added 2 .125" TJ holes Friday morning, and I'm surprised... a 115gr bullet going ~1550 or so, feels softer, and flatter than my 147gr minor loads somewhere around ~850 fps. I think John really has something going with that comp design. At minor, it's alright. At major, the dot barely moves. I was concerned about stabilization, but I think the last 2 ports on the comp really do their job keeping the dot tracking up and down.
  11. I just ran some 124gr's with power pistol through my glock w/2 tj holes and SJC comp... Dang that's loud, the concussion cleared out my sinuses though. 6.6gr under 124gr Gold Dot(what I had on hand)@ 1.150" Tracked pretty decent, but the concussion messed with my concentration.
  12. I used a 13# ismi for awhile, but had problems with the slide returning to battery, so I went up to 15#.
  13. Way ahead of you there buddy... Check the latest spreadsheet. Thanks for your information.
  14. Actually, it's the barrel I have. I can't load out that long, the bullet hits the rifling if loaded longer than 1.130" The magazines/extensions function ok up to 1.150", longer than that and the Taylor extensions get questionable.
  15. I tried power pistol, didn't really like it either. To me, it just seemed like a lot of noise, and not a lot of comp-work being done.
  16. I tried a few 124's and 125's, and I just didn't like how they felt compared to the 115's. If it comes to having to ream the chamber or anything, I'd probably just have a fitted barrel put in. There's no sense putting much $$ or time into a drop in anyway. The chamber looks pretty clean, but if I run into any problems with it, I can polish it up a little more. From what I have looked at, the bullets I'm having problems with, are all really short overall. If anyone is able to measure a 115gr and 125gr Zero for me it would be most appreciated. I would almost be willing to bet the case capacity of a Zero @ 1.145" would be about the same as these Win JHP's @ 1.130" After I get this bullet situation worked out, I need to play with the ejector some. I think I might put together a blank tool and pop out a few, since I believe we have stock tooling that can do the other forms. Maybe leave the nose a little oversize to allow for some fine tuning.
  17. I've been using a Carver for awhile now, I like it. Problem is it makes my draws feel like they hang up sometimes from a CR speed. Chris has taken enough of my money for awhile though, so I'm holding off on seriously looking at the S-J mounts.
  18. thanks. I just noticed when comparing 147gr Zero's to 115gr Win JHP... The Win is roughly .130" shorter than the Zero. Zero fits up to 1.169" If I seat the 115gr win JHP to 1.130, it will fit. The 115gr jhp is .538" long, which means .158" of the bullet is inside the case when seated to 1.130" If this was seated to 1.150", only 128" would be in the case. The 147gr JHP is .669" long, .269" of the bullet is inside the case, when seated to 1.150" For those with non-glocks who seat out to 1.175+, that would leave about .113" of a .355" dia. bullet in the case. That doesn't seem like a lot of holding pressure to me, but I am new to Major9. Anyway, I think I'm going to load some at 1.130" and see where that takes me. I believe it takes roughly 8.8gr of HS-6 to make 167pf. (Hs-6 and Power Pistol are what I'm playing with now)
  19. Well, we have a few machinists around these parts... Anyone into mold design? A plastic sleeve that could be fixed to a para mag to fit a G20/21 would be a sweet product.
  20. I got a drop in KKM barrel/comp... Now I'm trying to find a major load, but I can't find a bullet profile that doesn't force me to load super short. Anyone else have this problem? The 147gr Zero's I use for stock ammo fits fine @ up to 1.160", but Win JHP and Hornady XTP's aren't even close to fitting.
  21. Hornady bullets have more length @ .355" diameter, the taper isn't until further out. So I assume, this means more friction. Also, in some short throated KKM barrels, Hornady bullets have to be loaded really short to fit. The profile on Zero's, and Winchester(that I've seen) have a longer profile, and less surface area at .355"
  22. I started a new thread, but this thread is linked in a lot of other forums so I thought I'd post a thread link here as well. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32725 All the data from this thread compiled into a sortable spreadsheet.
  23. Dale Rhea's trigger kit comes with a skeletonized striker I believe. http://www.bb-enterprise.biz/item126138.ctlg
  24. What I'm really looking for by putting all this together is a glock-safe(read, 1.150"ish) 115gr major load. Since I've never loaded major 9 before, I thought I would gather as much data as I could and compare to book loads. I tried some hot 124gr loads and I just didn't like how they felt, but the 115's I've shot feel really nice. I've got HS-6 and Power Pistol on hand, HS-6 seemed to have the most info available. So far it seems 8.8gr HS-6 under 115gr Zero JHP @ 1.150-1.155" is going to be what I try next. Oh, I'm shooting a G17 with KKM barrel and SJC comp. Virgin barrel, until I get the machine time to do 2 TJ holes.
  25. Eventually, when I get around to it, I'll put a seperate sheet on there for Minor loads as well. There tends to be less data on minor loads, either missing OAL, bullet type, etc. Though with the lower pressures it's not as much of an issue. It would still be a good reference.
