  1. Just to keep it easier to find, I put all the data from the other major 9 thread in a spreadsheet. I left out loads that didn't list an OAL, except one glock load(short), and loads that didn't explicitly list a bullet type/weight. If anyone would like to contribute more data, I will update it as I get more in. It can either be posted here, or emailed to Twarner21609@comcast.net http://home.comcast.net/~twarner21609/files/major9.xls Update: 2-22-06 Changed bullet weight to be a seperate column, so now you can sort the whole list by powder, bullet type, bullet weight, power factor, etc. To do this: Open the spreadsheet, in the drop down menu "Data" go to "Sort" Then choose how you want to sort the sheet. This makes it easier to look for loads, and compare. When checking a load, be sure to highlight the row, by clicking on the number on the far left. This way you can be sure you're reading the right information all the way across I also added split panes, so when you scroll down, the headers stay, and as you scroll right for more info, the bullet type/weight stays visible.
  2. Translated into Excel format What I listed was complete data with Avg Vel, charge, powder, OAL, bullet weight/type. If anyone has any to add, I'd be happy to put it in. For some reason the forum won't let me upload an .xls file. http://home.comcast.net/~twarner21609/files/major9.xls Last Updated: 2-20-06 5:22pm I will keep this updated as I get more info
  3. try 4gr of unique under a 147gr Zero. This is my current stock GSSF load, very nice shooter. That is, if you like the feel of 147's in general.
  4. the upper L/R sides of the Taylor basepads hit the plastic insert in the dawson pads, making them hard to seat, even unloaded.
  5. taylor freelance mag extensions won't work with the ICE. I had to do a little dremel work to be able to seat them without having to cram them home.
  6. I guess I was referencing another thread in which 3n37 is talked about as burning EVERYTHING and coming out clean. My thought was if I shoot lots of dirty ammo, then some really hot burning stuff, I can cut my cleaning down from every month or two, to twice a year.
  7. I just noticed it was "torso". I was measuring from the top side, if I measure to the closest point on the mag I should be legal. Worst case I think I can lift the belt up more off my hips and tighten it down, that should pull the mags in a little closer. Or I can move the mags from the front to the side/back and my butt will save me some space.
  8. I'm using a CR speed belt, and speedcomp pouches. The pouches seem to hold the mag really far away from my body. I am pretty skinny, (31-32" waist) so there's no overhang on the belt. The belt alone adds almost 3/4", add on my pants and a little gap and by the time the mag pouch is attached to my belt it's almost 2" from my torso. My question is, does the measurement go from my actual body, or from the inside/outside of my belt, or what? I know other people use these pouches, so they SHOULD be legal, I just can't find anything in the rulebook as to how the measurement is taken. any help is most appreciated Thanks.
  9. Hmm, maybe if I get some 3n37 and run a mag through my guns at the end of every range trip I can cut my cleaning down to once a year. I wonder if it would clean up the Unique mess very well.
  10. I've got about 3/4# of Unique left. I've been using 4.0gr unique under my 147gr Zero JHP's in 9mm. It's dirty, relatively accurate, but dirty. Available everywhere, reasonably priced, but dirty. When I run out of Unlimited(gssf) ammo, I shoot some and it fogs up my c-more in <50 rounds. From what I hear, a lot of people use titegroup. What's the advantage of titegroup?
  11. Right now I'm just shooting GSSF, and my biggest complaint about the solid brass magwell is the weight below my hand. To a certain extent it will tame recoil by adding weight, but it also adds a counterbalance below my grip, which adversely affects how quick I get the muzzle down back on target. I think it may tame flip more to have most of the weight in my grip and not below my hand. Also, with all the practice reloads I've been doing lately(I'm set on making a smash debut in open USPSA) I like having an air bag for my botched reloads. The plastic insert should save my poor mags when I botch reloads. Not that it happens too frequently, but sometimes I get excited and hit home a little too hard and catch the edge of the magwell.
  12. Lucky for me, these are the first mag pouches I got. I use a comp-tac double mag pouch for carry use, so that's all I've ever had to use for practice. Got some of these from RS, and I love them. I haven't used any other single mag adjustable pouches before, but I like how I can fit all my mags close together, and all at the same angle. Edit to add: I just measured these, and from my torso to the back of the mag, near the top is getting REALLY close to 50mm... when wearing them in the front. I'm using a CR speed belt and it seems like the belt adds an inch to my thickness, and pushes the mag pouches way out. I'm going to have my rigs checked out at my first match to see if I should adjust anything differently. If they say anything, I'll probably move the mag pouches around to the side/back. That will slow me down, but at least my mags will be in the same place for open/production.
  13. If the magwell is the same, and it's just the plug that changes, I think I'll go heavy. My biggest concern has been balance. With my El-cheapo magwell, all the weight is below my hand. I want more of it in my hand.
  14. Anyone have any major data for Power Pistol?
  15. I seem to burn out occassionally as well. Given I haven't been shooting near as long as most people around here. Most of my problem comes from the fact that it's hard for me to find other people to shoot with. I've met quite a few people shooting GSSF, but haven't found anyone who competes in the area to practice with. It's nice to have someone to work on drills with, and share critiques, talk shop, etc. Without that, putting holes in paper gets less interesting. That being said, to get me out of a little slump, I just have to find something new/exciting to work on. Either a shop project, or new/fun drills.
  16. Anyone have a recommendation for heavy vs standard? I use a brass THE magwell now, but I don't have the weight on hand. I think the heavy is heavier, and light is quite a bit lighter. Also, is the only difference the size of the "slug"? If so, I could try and get a heavy and standard slug and try both. I just don't want to drop 200 on magwells just to test. I shoot GSSF right now, but I'm starting USPSA this spring. Heavy would be nice for GSSF, but I'm not sure if it would slow me down noticeably from the holster.
  17. I could have lightened the recoil spring up quite a bit to get it to function. Generally, I prefer my guns to run stock springs/ammo though. With the 6 port and stock spring, it was no where near functional. Every round was a FTF. At the time I was only shooting GSSF, so I didn't keep anything but stock springs on hand.
  18. I'm out in Oakdale, but I work in Rogers. If you ever want to try out an open glock let me know, I usually shoot at Bills North, but I rumble around in Robbinsdale occassionally. Right now I just shoot GSSF, but I want to get into USPSA this spring, so I'm not all that familiar with anyone else shooting open glocks around here.
  19. Basic glock open guns are cheaper, accessories are cheaper Drop in parts are widely available. Where in MN are you? I've been working on a new open glock as a pet project this winter.
  20. I tried a 6-port storm lake barrel in my 34 once. Wouldn't function at all with WWB, so I ditched it. I use an SJC comp on a 17 for minor stuff now.
  21. a G34 with 17L barrel, carver mount, C-more, and heavy magwell is a pretty good standard setup add an extended tungsten guide rod, and 11-13 pound spring with some super light 147gr puff loads and you're set.
  22. could maybe be an issue with how the bullets are staggering when you load them? When the mag is loaded, push down on the top bullet a little with your thumb and tap the bottom of the mag to seat all the bullets in the mag, then tap them back as usual. It might just be the last couple rounds are sitting in the mag at a different angle.
  23. So... How bout them Steelers?
  24. I've already got a glock open gun, I just thought production would give me a better feel for IPSC.
  25. Ok, I should have said I wouldn't see as much of a problem. Technically it's not safe, but it's far safer than removing the trigger safety while all the other safeties are bypassed due to an overly short trigger pull.
