Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. For the sake of your sanity stay away from Blue Dot. It works about as well as trying to stuff a blacksnake into a gopher hole. Wish I'd found this post before I bought a pound of it; can't wait to finish it off and move to something that works better! 550B, 40 S&W and .45 ACP.
  2. I've got an Armalite and I really like it. I'm taking it to Front Sight this year for the 2 Day Practical Rifle class instead of my .223 AR even though it's heavy. I could have spent a lot of time and money on it, but funny thing - all those guys who show up for the 4 day class with the high-speed low-drag rifles find that many of them break about halfway through the course, while the garden-variety ARs just keep going and going, like the Energizer Bunny. I put an aftermarket trigger on my ARs, but that's it, and they all run fine so far. I'm not into high dollar guns - I want nice guns that are good shooters and as dependable as I can make them.
  3. Thanks, Frandoc. We newbies appreciate all the help and the generous spirit found here. J.
  4. Thanks! I can work with that. The inserts allow me to slide the press and tools on & off the bench and will hold it rock solid when it's in use. If you'd like to see the design, here's the link: http://www.rifleshootermag.com/ammunition/benchs_022607/ I'm at the point where I'm making the inserts themselves. Thanks again! J.
  5. I'm building a new reloading bench and using Wiley Clapp's design. It features two inserts to mount presses and tools on, and I need to know what size to make the inserts so that I can use a Dillon Strong Mount for the 550 I'm ordering. Does anybody know? I looked on Dillon's site and the height measurement was useful, but they don't give footprint dimensions. After I get it done, I'll post pictures.
  6. Welcome! I have been browsing the Beginner's Topics and I must say it's been very educational. People are extraordinarily helpful and willing to assist, and I would agree with the comment by chmerr that asking here will save you money. I had a question about mags and saved about $60 just on a source for my Glock. Got advice for a belt and mag holders, too, and so far everything has turned out great. Plus it seems that a sense of humor is pretty universal here; wonder if it's a prerequisite or maybe we all just self-select? Masochists, all of us... anyway, come in and have a good time - we are! 7. Oh no, it is the cootie brigade complete with fashion advice like this is an episode of Sex in the City. I can just see that jezeebel Carrie changing her shoe fettish to a lampshade fettish. Just be sure to save your ruffled shades, Just like bell bottoms, they will come back into style, just at 10Xs the price. Hey, go easy on the cootie brigade. They invented lampshades, after all. And what's more, there wouldn't be any little Rabbis without 'em. But I hafta agree with the Rabbi on the ruffles issue; I personally wouldn't be caught dead without my ruffles. Er, wait, that didn't come out right...
  8. Yikes! Glad I stopped in and reeled out this thread. I coulda ended up on the range with a totally bogus look! Saved again by my trusty (and well dressed) buds... I think I gotta go shoot something. Dressed in Levis. (Me, not the target!) Sartorially yours, 21ravens
  9. Wow. You guys are awesome. Great advice on demand - does it get any better?! I will do my homework and find out what division I'll be shooting, but I'll start with 3 and go with the Fobus holders to start. Thanks, everyone!
  10. I am getting ready to shoot my first match, and I have a Glock 22 (.40 S&W) in a Fobus holster and 2 of the old swell-so-they-don't-fall-out mags that came with the gun in pre-ban capacity. I want to find some that do fall out in the 17 rd. cap. size, and can't get the Glock site to display anything about accessories or mags. Since I'm in Missouri, I can order whatever I need, but from where? And how many? And what holds 'em (besides my pockets)... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  11. I just joined and this is my first post. I live in Liberty, MO (a suburb of Kansas City), and have been shooting since I was 8. I bought a Glock 22 about 10 years ago, but didn't shoot it much until just recently. I went to the local IPSC affiliated club and participated in a beginner's clinic about a year ago, and that really opened my eyes as to what a fun and "joinable" sport this could be. Right now I am working about 60 hours a week, so not able to participate in the Saturday shooting meets, but I decided to use the time I have to prepare for next year when I'll have weekends free to shoot (finally!). I'm taking this time to get the right gear, buy and learn how to reload my own ammo, practice dry-firing and mag changes and working on shooting more. I have a backstopped area next to my house and it's legal to shoot there, and a couple of indoor ranges within 10 miles of me, so practice is possible. I'd appreciate any advice on picking a carry pistol, since my Glock is full size and hard to conceal. Missouri just a couple of years ago legalized carry in the state (we are now on a must-issue basis) so I'm looking for a smaller framed .45 that's concealable, either double or single stack. I figure to keep my Glock to shoot competition with for now, maybe move into a .45 later on. Having looked over the posts on this site, I have to say I'm really impressed with the quality of the responses, and the kindness as well. I'm looking forward to making new friends with you all and lots of interesting times. Jeff Edwards
  12. Hey, today's my first day, first post and for someone just getting started this looks like a great place to be! I have been shooting for a while, but never competitively (sp?) so this whole thing has really been a revelation. I like your thoughts about shooting what you have and growing from scratch. I'd be interested in your opinion of Brian's book, (helpful at this stage of the game, emphasis, etc.) when you get some time to read and digest it. I've got a Glock 22 and have barely been shooting it for about 8 years; (you go and run a couple hundred rounds through it once or twice a year), but I finally decided to shoot more, get accurate and buy a press so I could really enjoy myself. It seems that the folks here on this site are unusually kind and supportive to one another. I'm looking forward to this, and to getting to know some of you better.
