Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I'm running some Hornady Dies now, including thier taper crimp die. So, right now, I size, flare, drop powder, seat, then taper crimp. Would it be better to combine the seat and taper crimp in one die (hornady has this combo die now, didn't way back when) then incorporate their powder cop die? Or, is it still better to seat and crimp in separate stations? Another option would be to use the combo seat/TC die then put a lee FCD on the end? Or... haha Should I get a powder through expander die set up, and then incorporate a powder cop and a FCD? What's everyone doing? I'm loading 45 acp on this press probably 90% of the time right now.
  2. After looking around, I may end up with another gun. I'd love to get a STI, but if I did that it would probably end up my primary gun instead of a curious experimental fun gun. Would you guys go with a Springfield loaded or a range officer? Or, is there something better in that price range? One guy mentioned a RIA, but would those be in that same class? I wasn't impressed with the last one of those I had my hands on.
  3. That's exactly right, I forgot about the ramped barrels in 9 mm. That's out...
  4. This site has always been great for quick replies! Thanks guys, I'll check into these early recommendations. That range officer intrigues me a little. I like the stock bomar sights out of the box. Do they take standard sized mag wells? And how's their triggers out of the box, worth smoothing up, or do you have to replace parts?
  5. I've shot CDP in IDPA mostly over the years along with a little SSP. I'm interested in trying a little ESP, but I need a gun to do it with. I have a tweaked S&W 1911 now that I use in CDP with all the standard competition upgrades on it (mag well, sights, action work, ect). I think I'd like to play around with a 9 mm in a 1911 platform. Since this is just an experiment, I want to go fairly cheap. Should I look for a cheaper whole gun or get a slide and barrel for my current frame? Which way would you guys go, and with which parts? Thanks.
  6. Thanks guys. Im currently looking for a 5" m&p. What, if any, aftermarket trigger parts are recommended?
  7. Guys, i thought the XD's weren't legal in ssp?
  8. Thanks for the quick responses. Ill start checking some of them out.
  9. To add to the above, i want to buy used and for as cheap as possible. Maybe a beretta 92? I shoot a 1911 normally, so no glocks since the grip angle is just too different. I guess no polygonal rifling either since i want to shoot lead. Whats guys using out there?
  10. Simple question, id like start shooting some ssp in idpa. I need a 9mm to play, and i really enjoy casting bullets. So this gun has to eat cast bullets. What direction should i go?
  11. Clinton County Sportsmen Association is having another Bowling Pin match this year on July 4th. It will be our second annual July 4th match. This year's match will be very similar to last year's match with two different types of tables. We will have standard 4x8 tables that we call the "major" tables where the pins will be one foot from the front and three feet from the back of the table and you have to knock the pins completely off the table. The other type is the "minor" table that consists of a 4" beam with the pin in the middle of it. You only have to kiss the pins on this table in order to knock them off the back edge. You can shoot anything you want to on either table, but the heavy stuff will work better on the major tables and the light stuff will work better on the minor tables, including 22's and 9 mm's. We will also do something a little different this year. We will have a slug gun class where you'll get five shots to knock down five pins with a two second penalty for each missed pin. It should be a riot to both shoot the big dawgs and to watch the pins explode! Both tables will be about 7 yards away from the shooting line and have a 20 second maximum allotted time. Six tables for $10, twelve tables for $15. Shooting will start at 10 am and run until everyone is done. Bring what you got, anything capable of shooting five shots at a time, including revolvers, are welcome. Scopes and open sights, doesn't matter. Come on out and try pins for the first time, or show the first timers how to do it. It should be fun. Any questions, please email me at jeremiahm@hotmail.com Check out the club at www.ccfsa.com in the near future when the site gets update with the match info.

    Glock Holsters

I wear a 1911 in a pancake a lot, it's not to bad. The thin 1911 is easily hid in one with a lose over shirt, and then it's easily made in "plain site" when I'm in the car. I may go with a owb holster for this glock eventually also. Thanks for all the responses. Jeremiah
