  1. I had loaded alot of 40's on lee dies, but decided I needed to upgrade and bought a Dillon set.. End result was a seat die thrown in the swamp.. I never could get it to work correctly. I would get failure occassional failure to chamber which would dang near lock up gun. Best I could tell is it was somehow deflaring and grabbing the bullet before it was fully seated and causing a slight flare.. And this was suppossed to be a seat only die but I dont think it is,,, I backed it out lowered stem,, yadda yadda,, and still had issues with my ammo.. I finally chucked it and put the Lee back in and problem stopped
  2. in that case why would you want cleaner ejection,, now you gotta bend over and pick em all up..
  3. ok now i gotta ask why ? If you have an old long colt revolver it would take short ammo that is readily available. If its for matches using a SWC defeats the purpose of the shorter case as far as reload speed. Ad if you just want target ammo,, why not just load it in 38 ? Oh and you will probably end up swaging the lead or bulging the brass if you cut down 38's... many get a bit thicker as you go down.
  4. I think you will need a 38 super seat/ crimp..
  5. thats the plan,, but I thought ESP was 10 round and SSP was 15 in IDPA,, dunno,, and as mentioned not 100% sure what rule set these places are using.. Goal was to be Production 15, and IDPA 15 legal.
  6. yeh really gonna have to hit that rule book, lots of changes and not near the discussions to stay updated like for USPSA.. No idea what is near me,, the closer clubs dont have updated websights,, so just basically gonna show up with SSP/Production legal equipment and shoot..
  7. thats what I had heard, which is why I bought one in 6 inch,, wasnt expecting perfection,, but everything was a PIA to fit.. MSH, safety, sear, trigger,,, its like frame was just off. ALso I got peening around firing pin pole,, my loads wernt bad,, and never saw a primer with any signs of primer leak, flatlening, was using winchester standard or magnum primers and federal gold match magnum primers.. mostly with AA2 which isnt a super fast powder.
  8. only thing I found that worked was Remington bulk 147.. Blazer 124's, couldnt make it a cylinder . AMerican eagle, nearly came out I wouldnt trust them
  9. ah half inch below,, not above,, ok.. what about IDPA ? anyone know ?
  10. yeh happens sometimes with the heavy stuff without a good crimp. or 929's with factory 9mm.
  11. yeh, hard pass on Rock island,, I have one,, figured eh its 1911, I will change stuff anyway.. slide is all peened up, barrel isnt fit all that well, frame out of spec making it hard to fit anything.. I have a single stack 40 I built when I started could probably do the same with. Was a good gun back in the day and i still haver buckets of 40 ammo.. I shot IPSC standard in 10 round land with factory ammo, the extended 10 round mags were legal.. and the flush fit 9 rounders were the gamer guns for IDPA. I have an XDM elite I am trying to set up for pro 15 while still being IDPA SSP legal.,.. Think I just have to pull the factory funnel,, although rules are screwy. Just want to check out a couple of the clubs closer to me to see how they are.. Steel is 2 hours away, so after a few of thems just isnt worth the drive for me.. Only make that drive for icore
  12. revolver rounds dont set back.. they do the exact opposite,, They headspace off the rim or a moon clip. They arnt getting slammed into a ramp before firing like auto rounds. But generally since revolvers dont headspace on case mouth, a roll crimp into a groove does a pretty good job.. But as this is mostly talking about competition, people want smooth fast reloads.. Sooo most of us use smooth side, no groove bullets and a taper crimp to hold the bullet in place.
  13. concur, plus he is running them through a 9mm FCD... which is probably compressing things to .355... But eh ? 10 sd isnt horrible, and if he can clean gun without a grinder I guess things are ok
  14. 38 special sizer,, 9mm seater,,, and 9mm crimp. IIRC. Think I used a 38 super expander/powder die setup. I had various dies, I think I only had to buy a 38 special sizer at a gun show.| You will want to use .357 jacketed or .358 cast or plated. Any of those powders will work.. I use AA#2. I dont think the newer coated bullets smoke with tightgroup as bad as the old black moly coated did. IIRC 244 was specifically made to be HP38 but work better with poly coated bullets. I would probably go with that.
  15. use your barrel to chamber check.. Examine brass and head stamp, 38 super, 38 super comp, different brands seem to have different rim size.. Looks like you have a hair to much extractor tension for a 9lb spring.
  16. I am guessing my old caspian was a super slide, at minor it would run both just fine... at major it was kinda an either or.. I either got occasional failure to extract super comp, or failure to feed super.. Simple solution for me was to fit 2 extractors, one blued for super, one stainless for super comp.. I ended up just sorting brass, back then it wasnt hard I could see
  17. Looking at redhill page it seems the holsters are low cut in front.. IIRC seems like there was a thing about the holster having to come up past the ejection port.. Is that true in IDPA or USPSA production ?
  18. get a sharpie,,, blacken both sides of hammer,,, dry fire it a bunch, see if its rubbing on the sides, basically look it over repeat somewhere else.. its catching somewhere.

    9mm +p+

go on ebay , buy a 40 slide, probably a dime a dozen these days, then set up a 357 sig.. make 1300 easy peasy. or just keep it 40 and run 135's.. I never saw the point of hot rodding rounds when there are so many others to chose from.
  20. looking at Redhill page they have about a gazzillion options for attachement. I will probably be threading a single heavy belt,,, I think that is still a thing in IDPA,,, would prefer a type of holster I could clamp or put on after belt is on. I have mag pouches that use the bladetec tec locks,, How do those work with a holster ? seems foot print is kinda small, Or what Red hill attachment do people like ?

    New old job

youd freak if I sent you pics of some of the stuff I see
  22. Match got rained out but prepping now so I can actually have my act together to shoot Production 15 if chance comes along, would be nice if it was IDPA legal as well. Gun runs well on grab and go factory ammo. Dug through latest rule book,,, Gun will be a XDM elite 5.25" currently has the small mag funnel,, probably have to pull that... ordered a Comptac,, as I didnt have a holster and not many 5.25"s out there.. Am I missing something ? there is no picture of a guy rigged up and I see no mention of holster or magazine holder position... Other than outward distance from belt.. Is that correct ? no more behind the hip bone ? I did have a chuckle at rule 21 and 22... No mods allowed other than whats listed,, No parts replaced other than these minor parts.. Proceed to list every mod and every part on the gun other than the frame.

    New old job

oceans,, company was doing windfarm work, not sure now
  24. Do you have any pics of the short sight on a revolver ? I have the older regular one on my 627 and will buy another optic soon.. I am using an LPA rear sight with a single rail groove,on new gun, and want to try to get an idea if the short sight will line up or not.
