  1. I dunno, I think it would be much more simple to just say flagged and vertical equals a holstered hand gun.. nothing else needs to be said or range lawyered... Exact same rules and procedures used for handguns apply.. Sounds like these rule writers go out of the way to make things grossly over complicated
  2. trying to find factory loads I could count on in a 929 revolver.. and wanted to see velocity difference.. I ended up selling the 929 and getting a 627... I dont have much use for a gun I have to dick around that much with ammo. With short colt and moons readily available,, 9mm 929 wasnt worth the hassle for me
  3. follow up,.. I installed the LPA rear sight that has a built in rail cut on the 617... and sure as snot with the bigger ears of the rear it has a list.. Guess it is mainly the gun frame isnt quite rear... Its like once I have seen it I cant unsee. On the 4" 617 I had to go with a .215 Dawson front to zero, with about 2 clicks up.. Dont have an optic on it at the moment. My Viper died and I took the venom off the 617 while I was messing with irons and put on my 22/45 as I thought I was gonna shoot a steel match this weekend.. Then decided on USPSA an hour closer,, but then its gonna be rainy and 45 mph winds,,, so no thanks.. Oh well maybe next time
  4. doesnt take alot of effort to mix it up,,, even on the same stage. Give people options . Do I run and take the easy shot ? or stand and take the harder shot.
  5. yeh.. wish there were more matches near me.. I am gonna try the USPSA an hour away. but decided to shoot Limited with the STI,, was on fence about production 15, with the XDM osp,, dont have an optic on it . will see how this club goes, Havent shot the game in a long long time,,, was unpacking ammo, and I got match ammo loaded with Hornady Haps,, dated in 2008
  6. yeh I found that surprising...I just put the Burris 4 on my 617.. Hopefully it works ok. I had to return the Burris 3 for a refund, as I couldnt get the battery installed.. was just an odd bad design.. I fought with it for 30 minutes at my desk and figured If I couldnt do it there, no way I would be able to do it at the range. The 4 uses a 16XX battery and a deeper screw top with more threads, so it starts easily without having to compress the battery.. I imagine mine wasnt the only 3 returned and they fixed on the 4. I do like that FTP though I have on my 627, I might put the burris on my wifes 22 carbine. and get the short FTP for the 617.
  7. didnt they have a pendulum or something to measure it ? I think the scoring was also a way to balance the 1911's Americans had with the Brownings everyone else had.. Which kinda got thrown out the window when the double stack major guns came out. Shooting major in a doublestack isnt enough of a handicap to make up for the extra scoring points once you get up around
  8. I have watched alot of these people shoot. What was cool about the show is seeing people I knew or knew of.. It got carnival later, but the earlier challenges were pretty basic with a 1911 and a revolver they were shooting single action/. Even the other competitors were not impressed. I mean I was surprised they didnt do better. These were no time limit fairly open stationary shots at less than 30 feet...
  9. yeh i was waiting for your butt hurt..... was thinking of you recently... Started watching Topshot... Never watched it before... didnt have good internet.. so watching season 2, filmed 2011. please no spoilers... But the USPSA GM's SUCK ! Id put $1000 against any of them on an accuracy challenge... Athena Lee Went 4 challenges and never hit a target... she cant shoot a 1911 with good sights USPSA has notthing to do with shooting skill... run fast spray pray you win Hell my wife watching show with me.. She has never shot a match... Watching Chris Tilly... Wow he must miss fast
  10. much crying will be had... USPSA GMs have issues hitting a barn wall from inside barn.. Run fast spray and prey bask in glory
  11. Any Icore in your area ? Usually less movement and accuracy is much more important.. Steel is ok, and I would shoot it if it was closer, but it can get old fast
  12. Go to hodgdon for #2, Its jiving pretty well. If you look that Lovex data is well into plus p/ plus p plus territory.. Hodgdon lists 16k psi for 38 special and 19k for 38+p that lovex is 21k . If I wanted that velocity id go with a slower powder
  13. Maybe the humidity ? Its alot drier in Kansas than VA
  14. its only too much if its all of one.. A hose fest stage,, a tight shot stage, a stand and deliver stage, maybe with some week hand, or holding an object stage, makes for a good over all match... A great match is when the individual stages offer choices,, and makes stage planning fun when folks all do it different... IE the slow runner but accurate shooter has a spot to take 25 yard shots,, the fast runner, may run up and take the close shot.
  15. was digging in boxes, looking for a optic mount for a fellow shooter and my old limited rig... Guess the heat and cold of the garage somehow shrunk my belt a good 4 inches.
  16. my old timer actually worked by the button being released,,, then it counted down a 1-3 second variable time before beeping,,, worked good for training by your self... made it really bad when I RO'd with the club timer and would freak a competitor out by beeping at standby
  17. USPSA match an hour away from me, havent shot it in about 10 years,,, Steel is 2 hours away and Icore doesnt start for anothe rmonth but I will be working... On fence about Pro 15/ or putting an optic on my XDM, but eh decided to dust off my old 6" STI... might be only one there, but at least 1 Limited major shooter,,, going with my typical goal, of dont be last.
  18. yeh,, why the whole creeping thing is nonsense. Its a false start or it isnt.. I mean in Swimming if there was a false start, and even if the start pistol was fired, the official would rappidly fire a couple extra shots, to get every one to stop. Would be so simple if steel and USPSA to just do the exact same thing... Move before the beep,, false start,, do it again, zero the stage. If RO notices movement, but his brain cant stop his finger,,, and the beep goes off, same same,, he just yells stop,, and restarts shooter...
  19. Winchester sucks,, they used to be the best,,, then about 2020 started having QC issues.. had a batch and had same issues, getting stuck in the tubes,, missing primer compound, a large primer in a small primer box... Was like 1 out of 100 was bad. finally got through them I think and any WIN I have left are older..
  20. no go on the pics couldnt figure out how to hold / prop the guns,, all 3 are different, and work a touchscreen, to get anything usefull.. The online specs of the burris , pretty much jive with what I measured,,, the lens is actually taller,, but slanted back,, so I called it about .7 X 1.10.. Didnt what to scratch up glass with mikes. Looks like the venom is a hair shorter,, Venom,, is about the same useable size.. Burris is bigger but the shape of it probably doesnt offer more useable glass. The FTP is noticably taller like .820 high about same width on all three. Personally ? its a toss up between the Venom and Burris,, Burris has different reticles, but not a good 6 MOA, I played with the 11 with brightness down a bit. the circle ones are an eyesore and I dont see the point.. At this point kinda thinking of switching. Putting the Burris on my 22/45 steel challenge gun where the 11 MOA may be good.. and the 6 moa on my 617 which I shoot Icore with and the X ring accuracy is more criticle. For games of the 3 I like the FTP the best though. not sure where its made though.
  21. the ones with the front area,,, usually that area has a split or cut in it, so you can spread them out like wings towards the front,, this adjusts the triggers take up,, IE how far the slop is in the trigger before it makes contact... The set screw adjusts rear ward travel. If the trigger came from someone like Atlas specifically for their frames they probably have it dialed in to the amount of take up they want.. Generic after market ones like Wilson combat,, I am guess still have the cut
  22. No problem,, heading to the shop to dig for a Carver mount , I just mounted the Burris IV on the 617,, will mike all three and see if I can get a decent pic
  23. capacity arms race pretty much stabalized in open and limited as folks figured out it didnt matter a whole lot. Back then I think you had more steel frame guns,, and 15 probably was fairly standard.. But today is to0day.. You probably find 17 pretty common.. I imagine a 126 or box rule would stabilize things fairly soon. Might have guns with a 1 round advantage..and yeh would kill any 40 production guns.
  24. I am fine with 3-5 years, I figure something better will be out by then anyways.. I had 2 vipers die,, 1 sorta my fault/design issue.. open bottom made getting new battery in hard and I bent the nub.. Replaced.. That guy has been going strong for some time including a season on a 200 plus pf slide ride. so maybe 4 years ? Had it on my steel .22 in a frame mount. just this week though I couldnt get it to zero.. would be slightly off make a small adjustment and it would jump 4 inches. I could probably send it back, but never liked the open bottom design and haveing to remove it to change battery.. I had a Venom that was on my 617, and put that on the 22/45. New in box Burris IV went on the 617 for ICORE. I liked it bettter than the III, I could actually get the battery in.... The dust cover though resulted in much cussing, as it uses the 2 tinniest screws known to man... It will have to come off to change battery and I dont see it going back on... I wish it had a taller window though dont recall if it has a shake to wake function or not. I prefer the FTP sight the most.. due to its taller window.. Not sure how much that will help on the clock. I have it on my 627.
  25. pretty much only positive I saw, other than was a half measure. Shoulda just gone with a box or length rule.
