  1. I have both Dawson and Springer for different guns and prefer the springer ones because Springer will engrave your name and a magazine number on the bottoms of the bases for a few extra bucks. That said, the Dawsons have performed perfectly as well.
  2. Well, I still haven't inletted for the thumbrest screw, but have shot the gun a bunch, including a match last night. I'm not seeing any problems at all yet. Leaning toward not drilling the frame.
  3. I've always been taught to shoot both eyes open shooting pistol, and even though I'm cross eye dominant have never had a problem shooting this way. Howev er, I shot a match last night that had very poor lighting and found that it was nearly impossible for me to pick up the front sight clearly with both eyes open in the poor lighting. I ended up shooting the entire match with my right eye closed. Anyone else had a similar experience in low light?
  4. Steel match last night. Shot pretty well, but struggled a little bit seeing the front sight in the very poor lighting at the range. The match was at Nellis AFB and the lighting was gas generated floods well behind the firing lines. Overall not a bad match for me. Finished second pistol and 4th overall out of 37 shooters. Had 3 stupid malfunctions that were my own fault. Probably cost me a few seconds, which took me from first pistol to second (and second overall to fourth). I'm enjoying shooting matches more each time and look forward to the next one. In the meantime, I'm going to work on transitions and on making sure I'm seeing my front sight clearly before breaking each shot.
  5. Like others, I use a random delay of 1-4 seconds with the timer on my belt. No problems getting to start position.
  6. I tried emphasizing the lower body movement transitions when I was at the range yesterday and found initially that it slowed me down. After trying some different things I realized that my usual way of transitioning was a combination of upper body swinging and lower body driving that was more efficient and effective for me. Like anything else, I think we all need to find what works best for us, and for me it is a combination of the two techniques.
  7. For the record, just confirmed zero with new sights at range before I go to match tonight. Trying to follow my own advice.
  8. Just got done at the range. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip!
  9. And to prove that I haven't learned my lesson, I changed out the sights on my limited gun the other day and will be shooting it in a match tonight. I'm going to at least go to the range to confirm zero and make adjustments before the match though.
  10. I chose Glock 35 instead of Glock 22 for the sight radius alone. If I ever decided to build an open Glock, I'll use a G22 with a 9mm conversion barrel since the compensator adds length to the gun.
  11. I broke down and bought the MSA Supremes and couldn't be happier with them. It's truly a buy once cry once item.
  12. I've had a 650 for a year or so now and finally got it all set up last week. Now to start the bulk reloading.
  13. I'm lucky enough to have my range just down the street from my office, so I can sneak out in the morning or at lunch whenever i want. I've been trying to get in at least 2 live fire sessions a week, with more when possible.
  14. Picked up some Dawson extended bases for my Glock 35 a few weeks ago. Shot with them 5 or 6 times and function was perfect every single time and I felt plenty comfortable using them at the next match. First stage, first mag change my mag doesn’t seat completely causing a fail to feed and the mag to nearly drop out of the gun. Felt like an idiot, but there was only one mag change on that stage, so I cleared the malfunction, seated the mag hard and finished the stage. Stage 2, first mag change identical to the first stage except that the mag falls completely. Second mag change I realize what is happening and have to lock the slide back to seat the mag. I learned the the hard lesson that I needed to down load one round to get the mags to seat reliably. Also learned the hard lesson that I need to make sure to practice with my equipment in the exact configuration as a match. I generally did not fill mags completely when practicing. I do now. On a bright note, I couldn’t be happier with the Dawson bases.
  15. ‘Never tried zeroing on steel, but having just changed my sights last night, I’ll try it tomorrow.
  16. I’ve been working on transitions lately by shooting Blake drills and keeping all splits under .25 including the transitions. At first I was dropping the 3rd and 5th shots to C or D regularly, but now regularly shoot pretty well all alphas with sub .25 splits. Ive found that forcing speed at first allows me to get the feel for driving the gun and then I can focus on accuracy.
  17. Same answer s Angel except I just stopped by a skate shop and grabbed some. I also agree that I’ll never have to buy any again (unless I lose it, which is pretty damn likely).
  18. Shot a steel match Friday night and shot horribly. On Thursday I installed a frame weight and thumb rest. Shot for a bit Thursday afternoon to test fire and felt good, so I was comfortable shooting e match on Friday with it installed. Not sure if it was the significant change to the weight of the gun and the feel of the thumb rest, but I did not shoot well. The only other excuse I can think of is that it was a night match with not the greatest lighting. I think I’ll blame the gun and lighting and not myself.
  19. Just last night installed Warren Sevigny sights on my limited G35 with .115 fiber front and .150 rear. Looks good during dry fire. Live fire tomorrow.
  20. Haha. I’m just grateful to have a pic to give me an idea. I searched the inter webs and couldn’t find a pic until this one.
  21. My preference is to compete with people better than I am as it both gives me drive to be better, and has immense educational value if I'm paying attention to what the better competitors are doing.
  22. Roy seems to offer good coverage and I certainly don't want to take away from that, but also wanted to share that I've had collectibles insurance for several years and only recently had to make claim. The process was fast, easy, and hassle free.
  23. I now use the 5.11 range bag and it is by far the best bag I've owned. Pretty big bag and can get heavy when loaded down with guns, loaded mags, and ammo, but well organized, easy to carry, and fits everything I need. ETA: Just looked at the Shooters Connection bag linked above and it looks to be identical to the 5.11 I'm using. http://www.511tactical.com/range-ready-bag.html?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_term=5.11+tactical+range+ready™+bag+(black)&utm_content=accessories&utm_campaign=plas
