  1. Tag because I had the exact same thought the other day. I've been using the standard HD's on my CCW and regular carry guns for a long time and swear that they are the best sight around for that purpose. Recently saw the XR line and thought they might be great for competition shooting. My only thought is that the fiber sights that I currently use are far brighter than the dot on the HDs, so you might be giving up some speed in acquiring the front sight.
  2. Thanks for the input. That's the exact same concern I have. The hole drilling is very easy, the inletting, I'm not so sure about. Any chance you can share a picture of the finished inletting so I can get a netter idea what is required?
  3. The thumb rest screws onto the weight with this setup with three screws. The thumb rest feels really solid without the frame drilling, so my only concern is that pressure on the thumb rest might flex the frame and cause it to rub on the slide. I’m gonna shoot it tomorrow morning and see how it goes.
  4. So, my frame weight and thumb rest arrived today. The frame weight is incredibly easy to install, but the instructions for the thumb rest install are not great. Additionally, I’m not overly anxious to drill a hole in my frame. Is it really necessary to drill a hole in the frame to install the thumbrest or will I be fine with the thumbrest just attached to the secured frame weight without drilling my frame for the thumbrest?
  5. Fairly new USPSA shooter. Have now shot three matches. First match was with a production G17 and I finished around middle of the pack. Next match was a steel shoot and I was top pistol. Most recent match was a holiday match where I finished 13 of 50 or so overall and 5th in Limited with my G35. I've decided that instead of shooting casually, I want to really train and step up my game. I'm currently unclassified as I've never shot a classifier, but after shooting the most recent match, including a steel side stage, I was told I'm shooting at least to an A class. We'll see where I actually fall when I finally get to shoot a classifier. I'm currently registered for four matches in the next 6 weeks including two steel matches and two steel and paper matches. My focus is going to be on stage planning and calling my hits. My training goal is to dry fire 4 nights a week and live fire 3 days a week. My shooting club is about 5 minutes from my office, so I can run over in the morning, or at lunch time to shoot for an hour pretty much any day. I'll try to re member to update here regularly.
  6. I just buy a roll of skateboard grip tape, then cut it to fit the portions of the grip I want to cover and stick it on. My limited G35 has had the same tape for around 3,000 rounds now and it is still good. When it does lose grip, I'll just cut off another piece of skate tape and do it again. I think the entire roll of skateboard tape was like $5.
  7. Glad it's not just me. I've found the exact same thing. Since I started focusing on practical shooting, and spent less range time just standing in place slow firing at bullseyes, my ability to shoot tiny groups has diminished. That said, my ability to make rapid "A" hits while stationary or moving has increased dramatically. I see nothing wrong with working on both, but in my situation, with somewhat limited ammo resources for practice, I prefer to spend as much ammo as possible working on more "practical shooting" type skills and drills. One day I'll have a big enough ammo fort to shoot more and do both.
  8. I do it the exact same way OP described. Pick a planned reload place where I'll not be at slide lock during my stage planning and then reload at that point. With proper planning, I should never have to reload from slide lock. And like someone else said, if i end up with an empty mage, I've screwed up the stage.
  9. Long time shooter, but fairly new to USPSA. Finished middle of the pack (overall combined) in my first USPSA match shooting a production G17 a few months ago, and top pistol in my most recent USPSA steel match (around 30 shooters). Looking forward to learning lots and improving my shooting.
