  1. Yeah it's brutal. I have resisted 9 major up till now but having tried a few guns/loads and seen what you guys are achieving with it I'm willing to give it a shot. Sadly, if it works out well with the back-up gun I will also have to rebarrel the primary. Hmm, how much brass lost to justify the cost of the rebuild and rebarrel? Maybe I don't want to do the math.
  2. Starline Super Comp. In Canadian. It's time to rebuild the top end anyway so might as well go 9mm.
  3. May I ask how recent that Bedell build is? It looks like a newer comp design than the one I have. I am not 100% sure of how old the build. Maybe Jeff (Sudden Death) will drop in an answer the question for you. Cool. I like the look of the recoil signature on that thing and at 250 bucks/1000 for brass it's seriously time to consider having Dan rebuild my backup super to 9 major.

  5. I've got one of these on my open gun. It's a Very good part.
  6. One obvious things actually could ting the targets you are seeing and make sure the number you get jibes with the walk through. Memory stages are not my favourites but 12 man squads beetling all over the stage and a 2 to 5 minute time limit, you may not get more than one look at the presentation.
  7. Based on the numbers in your intitial post you should hit 170 @ around 9 grains.
  8. I haven't worked with Silhouette but since most pistol powders are pretty linear, you can extrapolate. Target pf (170) ÷ actual pf (159) X charge weight in grains (8.5) = charge weight to make target pf (9.0). I would still ladder up though to monitor for pressure.
  9. Looks a little longer/heavier in the nose too. Can't wait to get my hooks on one.
  10. Sorry, I messed up that quote. Stupid cell phone....
  11. [quote name="teros135" post="2543185" timestamp="1454183973" Works fine now, after having the breech erosion fixed and the feed ramp slightly repositioned, and going to 1.190 OAL. MG 180 gr JHP still works best, probably because they're rounder and more "slidey". It's remarkable how all the parts in the 1911 design work interactively and how many parts have multiple jobs (e.g., the FPS positions and "contains" the firing pin, positions the extractor and keeps it from clocking, and affects how quickly the slide starts it's movement backwards (which can affect muzzle rise). The jhp profile moves the point at which the bullets strikes the ramp higher, relative to a truncated cone profile, so feed angle and break government instantly improves. And yup, it's even more amazing when you consider JMB figured a this out long before there were computers. It all came out of his head.
  12. Just a note to add: if the COAL is too short for the gun the round will be on too steep of an angle at the break-over point in the feed cycle and thus, it will not cam up under the extractor properly. Because of the extreme angle it will pinch the rim between the breach face and the extractor hook lead-in. You may be able to "tune" the lead-in on the extractor hook a little to compensate and get it to feed, but on an aftec it shouldn't require much if any, properly fitted and as well, you can end up with not enough hook contact on the rim, which will lead to erratic extraction/ejection. So you want to find the correct length for your gun and you will probably be happiest in the vicinity of 1.20", give or take depending on bullet profile.
  13. Could be. It could also be the set screw walking it's way in and buggering up the release, and eventually rounding off the nose of the sear. They do get loose sometimes, especially after lots of firing, cleaning solvents, etc. Worth checking.
  14. Have you checked the over-travel screw?
  15. Double Tap mounts have those now as well. It is a very good mount, and the Genesis of the design.
  16. Similar but not exactly the same. The alex mount has steel inserts for the screws which I prefer over just cutting a thread into the alloy mount.
  17. That would make me crush a steel grip flat.
  18. I've got two pairs of Rudy's, Oakley's (different flavors over the years) and several aviator frames. Not happy with any of them. Recently in frustration I decided to try a pair of Randolph Engineering shooting glasses set up with dominant eye front sight and non-dominant distance. They are fantastic glasses. http://shop.randolphusa.com/edge-frame-p5616.aspx
  19. Well if you're totally on the fence between Limited and Production, why not choose the division with the lowest overhead (ahem...Production). That will let you practice more for the same money and thus, get better faster. Theoretically.
  20. Just saw this thread and glad I did. I am registered for Area 6 and I'm going to shoot Production for the first time and I didn't know there was even a box, since I'm used to IPSC rules. Currently I have Tanfoglio mags and those gigantic stick-on rubber base pads, which clearly will not fit the box. Any recommendations on best base pads to get? I'm going to get a couple more mags too, probably Mec Gar but I'm assuming they will accept the same pads.
  21. You're not waiting on the slide, you're waiting on the recoil. The slide cycles long before the muzzle returns out of recoil. Heavier bullets = longer recoil event. Softer feel. Lighter bullets = shorter recoil event. Snappier feel. It's all about preference. I prefer 147s because I feel that the less vent recoil impulse let's me track the sights better, but it's subjective. On the clock the split times are mostly regulated by how fast I can get the sights back on target. Up close wh~ I don't have to aim split times are identical, regulated by how fast it can reset and pull the trigger. I cannot pull the trigger faster than the gun can cycle. So though technically slower to recoil, 157s seem to afford faster visual perception. At least for my eyes.
