  1. "...we are not building into rifles." I read that to mean all the lowers are allocated to complete rifle construction. I'd bet dollars to donuts they are building a LOT of rifles right now. Tar Yep. "...not building INTO rifles..." ie; they are not selling stripped receivers at all. They need all they have for full builds, and probably still don't have enough... jj That was true back in October if you wanted a CTR
  2. Several friends from out of state have told me they followed this thread and asked about an update. I had to put this project on the back burner for a wile to attend to some of " Life's Challenges " Well I have it working very consistent with a load that I like and likes me. 140 AMax with 42.9 of Hogdon 4350 - 2,785-fps The gun and load defies the ballistic table with a 200 yard sight in landing my bullets consistently 0.2 Mill high at 500 yards. most of my tables put me with a drop of 2.2 mill for 500 - But at 1,100 ft elev 55 to 75 deg I only need 2 mill of hold over. This groop is after adjusting my hold lower after the first shot hit high. the wind picked up just a bit too and I had to hold one of the target circles to the left of ware the quarter would have been if it had not fallen off before I could shoot. to look hard though my scope. I was disappointed after looking in the spotting scope at the end , But real happy with the best group I ever shot at 500 yards. happy enough to take a photo.
  3. A small shop guy just north of me built my gun Jack Leather -Leather Built Customs Posted 27 December 2011 - 06:04 PM its a "Leather Built custom Rifles" with a Barlein 1 -8 medium Palma barrel & Badger break and scope mount. JP stock and a Vortex 5-20 Razor EBR-2 scope my load that gives me slightly better consitency is with Lapua Brass over the RP brass - I use the Redding typ S neck die set. the Lapua brass messers out at 0.015" I use the 0.293" type S bushing for that brass, I get good results with RP brass when I uniform the neck its thinner at 0.013" I get good results with the 0.289 busshing. My best friend and I had guns built as pairs to save some on the gunsmiths setup time and to so we could cross test loads and share amoe in a pinch. His gun cronos a bit higher than my loads with less powder though. I am at 42.9 to 43.0 of Hodgdon 4350 with a 140 AMax bullet. Both of our guns are "Short Chamberd" for hand loads only that will fit in the AI mag and still set near the lands when chamberd = I am 0.010 off of touching my lands. I get 2,785 fps with that load 10 feet from the barrel. = Stuarts gun gets the same vel with 42.5 gr of 4350- diffrent lot
  4. I have the 5-20 Razor with Vortex high rings. And I am spotting with the Razor spotting scope. The Drill is giving me confidence in making small adjustments to my hold point. The "One Try per week" rule adds the necessary pressure to make it a reasonable drill.
  5. Do you take to long to pull the trigger because the sights are not perfect or are you gripping hard and your trigger finger feels like it won't move? Thats one thing that is so disappointing - The gun and sights get to target , and I see a good sight picture. But the hammer is slow to fall. = I have to wait on my trigger finger to pull. A true trigger freeze happens when the trigger is down and will not let go to pull again. The exercise I recommended was to let you developer a good stronger grip with the hand " without using the trigger finger as part of that grip" Some people could type out Morris code and some people can't I am the guy that represents Effort over Talent
  6. I don't have much of a problem with trigger Freeze. its just that my trigger is never hot. I happen to use a power hand tools in my work. holding a saw up to make an accurate cut only requires a firm pull on the handle So in order to isolate my trigger finger for shooting I used to do some drills with a Bat size stick. and weight lifting bar with the neoprene pipe insulation form Home Depot slipped over the bar. I hold the bar or bat vertical and grip it below center holding it with out the grip of my trigger finger. = move the pole around with out damaging the house and you will find its a great -hand work out- Lightly press the foam with the trigger finger after you get your hands tired. * keep both Thumbs on the left side like a pistole grip It works one handed and two handed = don't get crazy and hit your self below the belt zone with the bottom of the pipe
  7. Some times a thought jumps out of my head. So that old question about the tree and the deep forest. If you attend a shooting event and the cameras don't come out to show it on TV , Is it any less of a match? maybe Not as effective for the advertisers. but what I saw of the adds, they were selling to the Choir any way.
  8. The more gear stuck on the belt will make -keepers- more of a requirement. I have found in the 3 gun events that I need three keepers so as not to louse the belt with my hand gun still in it when I am running. 3/4" wide Velcro strips from the Home Depot work great, they just are hard to get louse some times.
  9. you guys should be thankful I am no good at posting video. My wife got some of me doing the Rocky Mountain Dance last night. She through money to get me to stop. Or it could have been my singing the "Rocky Mountain - Shoot" to the Jingles Bell Rock tune sing along Rockymountain..Rockymountain ..Rockymountain Shoot ......Gonna Shoot it Yea. Gona Shoot the Rockymountian and have a great Time. ...Gona ...Shoot it..... YeeAaa.
  10. Made my third try today, It seams to be teaching me. Aiming small is making the misses smaller.
  11. Pro's frequently shoot what they are payed to shoot and Jerry could win just as easily with a BSA, so I don't put any stock in what the pro's use. That said, I have been lusting after a z6i for a long time but it is just too expensive. This Vortex is at the level of pain that I can deal with, but my only reservation is that the reticle looks too fine. Hopefully I won't get an opportunity to look through one and blow a wad of cash.money. Well That would be one effective way not to catch the Fever .....Just don't look through one, & don't look at the smile on the face of a shooter after he uses one. and Don't listen to happy remarks on how they could see the bullet hit the target way before the RO Call "Hit". so If you see no Vortex and hear no Vortex , And you can keep from speaking that you Want one. === You may be OK and not catch the Fever. And your unhappy cash will stay in your pocket. Good Luck with That. I personally did not think that I would ever let go of the 1-4 FFP Razor with its fantastic reticle for ranging. But having the 1-6 in my hands and on the gun won me over big time. The drop bars are only hard to see at 600 yards = you have to pay attention and I don't think thats a bad thing for a 600 yard shot. But on 10" plates at 400 to 525 the reticle is near perfect
  12. I figured the entire Mayan Calender - Nostradamus ...end of the world thing out. That the end of the World predicted is for all the pour souls that do not get in to the Rocky Mountain Event. I know thats how I felt last year having to pull out. And the ones that get in .....'Yes Virginia , There is a Santa Claus'
  13. Cool Thanks Chris = The Schedule they used last year was "The First weekend" of the month. The West Texas Marksman has sounded like a great match. I will make some of them in 2013 Thanks
  14. OK got to be an easier way to find out how to get scheduled for some precision rifle events next year. something good to learn on , with shots over 600 yards seams like most of them do not have websites
  15. I like the American Defense mounts I like that it grips the rail in a wider area and it can be adjusted with out tools
  16. I only used my unit about 16 hrs so far and the origional battery is still strong
  17. I am useing 4.6 of Hodgdon Universal with the 149 MG I don't know how - soft - it is but the recovery time / accuracy is good for me. its in 38 super comp
  18. Hey no reason to get personal with the Vortex comment
  19. But this is the first place Negative people will look. Oh I am probably wrong
  20. Its not secrete that I have a fever for Vortex Glass. Just yesterday I shot my best 500 yard group with a 260 and the Razor 5-20 But I also have this scope and it has been very good to me. What the Mil Dot will give you is room to grow to other shooting games This scope can be had for the $800 or less 6-24 The mill reticle will help you hold for wind http://www.vortexopt...reticle/reticle And if you don't go Vortex you should go for the Nightforce
  21. Watching late evening TV so something that does not include autopsy. At first look this movie looked Too Silly to watch. But I started to see how it could be and is about any consuming sport that is not easily understood. The outline of the movie is about a "Spotting" the most Bird Spice in one year. It shows how family and friends do not understand the quest and expense of long travel and rough conditions. The Irony displayed is the fantastic scenery the people go to the spot the birds - only looking at the birds and not the majestic mountains or sea shows. The end shows the reward & sacrifice If you travel more than 5,000 miles to shoot next year this movie is a must see.
  22. I think the low is too low. The high puts the center in line with Iron sights. I think you would have to roll the gun to get your eye into the optic.
