  1. If I was going to fly , I would try for Coloarado Springs and go with a big clear bag of high cap mags just to thumb my nose at them
  2. I just now saw this post, But a few of my friends have made the club shoots and were happy with the challenge. If I could get away I would be at it but the timeing is off for me. sounds like a good one
  3. I stayed at a friends place near the Surefire Texas Multi gun event this past week. He is about my age & just getting going in 3 gun with not too many larger events under his belt. Busy guy that pays attention to his work over play. Being close to my age also means that us older guys do not learn as fast as the young guys. Any way he was very skeptical that I could show him how to make a strong consistent 8 round load in just 10 to 15 minutes of coaching. The smile on his face at 7 minute of practice was priceless. Thanks Carbon Arms
  4. The thing I hated the most was that cold wind made my tiers sting when I cry ed about my shooting, Like on stage 12
  5. Trap = is the target that most shooters don't give the proper respect like #4 on five to go , the far right target on Roundabout -if you start on the left side. third target form the left on Accelerator. A "Trap" its the target that you -think- can be shot with the same focus as all the others. Every stage at any kind of match has something that will entice or trap the shooter into a quick shot. when a stage with lots of targets and walls with have a target that can only be engaged from one place would be the "Trap" Or a target that can be shot at from every position is a trap because it -traps- you into shooting at it several different times.
  6. This thread really caught my eye. and put a big smile on my face remembering all the times of blow shots & stages worrying about how was watching me. I share this story at our local events when new shooters worry about how they are doing compared to the "experienced" shooters "I shot my first competition in Jan of 1990 the only reason I was not last place at the match was that 2 shooters left before the match was over." Think about this , Any one that mater's wants you to do as good as you possibly can. if some one does not want you to shoot your best .....They should not even be at the event. Jamie I am one of your biggest fans
  7. most shooters at Steel challenge focus on the first shot to feed the ego. and thats fine but the second most important shot in the stage after the stop plate is the Trap target like #4 on Five to Go = If the shooter indexes for the fist shot on five to go they are out of position to swing in to the stop plate. and not in the best shooting stance to hit the most difficult target on the stage #4 I am not a very talented / skilled person. so I have to work very hard at reaching the bottom of the top level in the shooting games. So practice indexing for your last shot or the trap target that you normally end up with two shots to hit and thin train for your first and second shot. I have seen many mid-level "Talented" shooters make a very fast first shot only to hit the second or third target with hesitation. But thin I may not know any thing , I could be just another washed up old guy Jamie
  8. I don't know for sure as this was the first Texas Multi Gun event that I just shot and not worked BUT ! I think this match was 5 times as interesting to shoot than past events. I found this match to be a shooting challenge to do well - over a challenge of just "not to fail" I came up with 545 yards of movement on the clock. movement = Running. I could have cut a total of 1.32 seconds off my match time by not getting my knees so high when I ran. Thats what my sprinting coach told me any way. He said the cloth in my pants slowed me down 4.43 seconds total match time. So I may have to figure out how to sew belt loops into my old running shorts. over 40 years ago I could run the 440 -untrained- in 58 seconds All that said I think the stage plans were very good. The match staff ran like clock work = doing what some thought could not be done. most of the Range officers have worked every TMG event . If I had a wish list it would include some vision breaks on the target view = barrels maybe some hard cover / no-shoot shotgun targets to cause the shooter to move during engagement. Less running with out something to shoot at. = I counted 320 non shooting yards.
  9. I just got finished with the Texas Multi gun that allways has a cross wind of some kind. This morning it was only 10 + What I do is gage the windage in comparison to the target size and the end mark on the 400 or 500 yard bar. useing the targets today I held two targets width into the wind. And I the long range stage boosted my scores for the match. Most of the time with 1/4 wind angle as all I have to do is open a small gap from the side of the yardage bar from the up wind side of the target. At our training range I normaly set the yardage bar at the up wind side. If -That is IF, I am not spazzz on the trigger the hits work out fine
  10. Thats what I call the "JOY Factor " any other scope Just wont do any more
  11. my Feet think I'm crazy I liked the options and lots of them, The Calls on the long range targets as always is top rate. Now I need a nap
  12. Some smart A** guy last year put up a sign 1/2 way to the stages that said " <---- Bataan "
  13. The MGM fits my style the very best, in fact if you buy a Vortex lever it will be made by MGM. IF your going to be at the TMG this weekend you can try my lever out.
  14. Happy Birthday , And Thanks for your encoragment 23 years ago to "Stick With It & Stay Sharp" I have had years of reward as part of your guidance. Thanks Jamie Foote
  15. So long as most of the rifle targets are farther than -Handgun- range I will be happy. OK dosn't even have to be most just -Some of the rifle targets past handgun range.
  16. I always got picked last for Base Ball , But picked first for Dodge Ball This will throw a twist on planing
  17. I have not spent any time looking at the Leupold, But I get plenty of Leupold owners that want to look through my 1-6 Razor. and every one of them say the Vortex Razor has a much more forgiving eye relife distand than the LeupY. The Joy I get out of shooting has gone up a lot now that I am useing the 1-6
  18. She made it through open heart surgery to replace a heavily infected left Mitral valve. So far, so good. Now if we can make the next several months without the infection coming back, I may start to breathe a little bit. Thanks! Best wishes for your Wife and you, I understand your pain
  19. This was a great -Great!- match doing big stages and staying inside the berms. Every stage had several ways to shoot it, with a Risk-Reward factor provided in several areas. The Match was a very good ballance of Speed and Accuracy alowing the shooting room to solve the stages in a way that best fit their skill. I was very pleased to see how the USPSA rules served this match as an Improvement to the "Freestyle" theme I love in shooting. I would allways -rather not- shoot a 3 gun event in bays , But the stages more than made up for my long drive. as an example Stage 7 had a pick on what gun to shoot first + at least 10 diffrent directions of travel to take on the stage. Combine that with option targets that could be hit with Handgun or Shotgun and the posibilities ran over 30 that stage out smarted me, I love a match that challenges me at more than just a fast trigger finger. The match staf was first class provideing a fair chance at the stages for every shooter. & The scoreing was fast and accurate. This happend to be my best three gun finish placeing me at 84.6% of Taran B. and makeing me feel great. The Prize table was spread out very nice for the most shooters. I was able to finde something need and want. And I think shooter # 20 - #30 was able to pick something very close to what I picked in $ value. I do think the Top shooters should be rewarded, but I think it is cool when friends finde something of a Diamond when they come from the prize table. When a guy that places 25th at match can show his family and buddies something he won, the sport and the event benifit from it. When that JR shooter gets home and shows his exstended family and friends what he won, We all end up with a larger Family of shooters
