For limited with an M&P I ran a CR Speed WSM. Simple and fast. Muzzle support can be adjusted up and down for different guns. I did find out that when I switched to a 2011 that it wouldn't work though. Had to buy another WSM, but that's how much I liked it.

Anyone else using this powder? It seems a bit dirty, but I like it pretty well other than that. Meters well, impulse isn't sharp. My major load is below their recommended minimum. 5.5gr of CFE Pistol, 180gr Blue Bullets, 1.175" OAL out of a CK Thunder Limited. Made 955fps at SC State Chrono. 5.9 for plated bullets at about the same speed

Mag springs before major match season, then shoot them all year. If there's an issue or I've shot a lot between major matches I'll change them. Recoil spring maybe every 5000-10000 rounds?

I guess I'd need to find a clear coat that's fairly resistive to cleaning solvents

Anyone tried it? Thinking about trying it with a black hand stippled 2011 grip. Not sure how it'll affect the grip texture or if it'll rub off after time.

Competition Shooters! Where do you store you're guns
sstephns replied to frgood's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
Pretty much same here. Either on the bench getting cleaned or in my bag next to my bench in my garage. Hell, it's probably less likely to get stolen out of my range bag in my garage than anything in my house. Not saying there's a lot of valuables at home, just saying it's not a place someone would do a double take and go look. -
Accuracy vs speed, am I on the right track?
sstephns replied to leam's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
As others have said, make sure the basics are sound, then ramp up the speed. You may lose some hits I'm the A zone, but if you cut your time by 25%, you'll see the difference -
From SC State, my A % was 65%. 169/259 shots. Top 5 in limited were 217, 183, 209, 169, 185. My time was 208, top five were 172, 165, 160, 166, and 175. That alone tells me if I can speed up through technique, and keep the same A% I'll be in fine shape. If I can speed up and pick up more A's, I'll be in better shape.

Best advice I was ever given...
-
Normal for me is 1.3-1.5, with .18-.22 splits. I've hit 1.1, but don't feel in control.
-
Point me to the targets... Lol

Squadding with c or d shooters that don't know what's going on can be scary. Granted I'm only a c level shooter currently, but I've been cleaning up at most matches in my class by a good bit. I ROd for a D squad the other month and about had a conniption with some of the shenanigans I saw that you would never see with the super squads. I try to squad with better shooters to pick up on techniques or ways they shoot stages

Some of these things I do already. The others I'll add to the routine. Many thanks
-
Also, I'll definitely try to get bumped to shooting first. That sounds like a solid plan, simple and effective.
-
Good stuff. I typically try to figure out these things at the same time. I'll definitely try this
-
Yep. When I started I was shooting SS. Switched to limited real quick. Thanks for the advice y'all

This is something I struggle with, usually when I'm the first shooter. Anyone got any good tips for planning your run, and then executing, especially as a shooter early in the line up? Usually after 5-6 shooters I have it figured out, and can execute well, but I find I make way more mistakes when I'm up first.

Definitely not pointed at the targets.
-
Yea... Booger hook was clearly hooked near the bang switch and clearly not pointed at the target while trying to clear the cluster. That's the one in really kicking myself over. But yes, good to think about.
-
Understood. Another shooter told me after that he had broke it, but again I couldn't call it or be certain about it.
-
Close to or broke the 180. I tried to be in a good spot to watch it on this particular stage and saw it go that way when he reloaded but wasn't 100% sure. Second was finger in the trigger while clearing a malf on the last two targets
-
New RO here. Should have DQd a shooter for two infractions on the same COF but wasn't sure enough about them or quick enough to do it prior to end of COF. The more I think about it, the more I believe I was wrong in not issuing the DQ. I keep playing it over and over in my head and feel guilty about it. But I reckon it's a lesson learned and fortunately without consequence. My point is, go with your gut.

Support index finger in front of trigger guard?
sstephns replied to ES13Raven's topic in Handgun Techniques
I shot with an M&P for a while with my finger in front of the trigger guard, and carried that over to my 2011. I was given some advice the other day from a shooter who is far better than me to not do this. His tip was to put the whole weak hand on the grip. If you were to put your palm only on the grip over your strong hand fingers and keep your weak hand fingers straight, they should be pointing at about a 45* angle down. Wrap them around and squeeze hard. That was his advice, I'm working on it but haven't had time to practice it live fire. -
CK Thunder Limited - Maintenance Questions
sstephns replied to sstephns's topic in 1911-style Pistols
10-4. Didn't want to bug them if someone knew the answer here but will certainly email them. Mags are all brand new mbx with maybe 500 rounds each through them. -
Quick question for anyone that can help. I picked up a CK Thunder Limited from the forum here, and with the major match season coming up I want to make sure I'm tuned up. This is my first 2011, but I assume it's 99% identical to maintenance on a 1911. My main question is, what is the factory spring weight, and do they run on stock 1911 recoil springs? It's a reverse plug guide rod. Second, the after extractor. Should I put the second spring in if it's currently running fine? Probably 5-8000 rounds through it since new, maybe 10,000. Third, any particular maintenance I should watch out for? Thanks in advance.
