  1. Easier said than done when he's a two states away. Fortunately I'll see him soon and can do that, but yea I agree it's best to plunk them
  2. I'm following this for a little advice as my dad just bought a shadow 2 and I'll likely be loading for it. I have 2000 124gr berry and some left over cfe pistol to burn. Mainly interested in what overall length works for that bullet so I can get a load up quickly for his gun. Any advice would be welcome, I mostly turn out 40 and don't mess with 9mm much
  3. I ordered the gs funnel off eBay until i get a bullet feeder
  4. My expander on the powder funnel measures 0.395, is that correct for the W funnel
  5. That's not acceptable for me. The bullet should be held by the slightly expanded case firm enough to make it into the seating die without falling over.
  6. Quite the opposite experience I'm having with the stock powder funnel. There's a lot of hoping and praying going that the bullet doesn't lean over and hit the mouth of the seating die.
  7. Can you tell me what the diameter of the expander should be? I'd like to check mine
  8. I'm flaring on the powder drop. The problem I'm having with the Dillon powder funnel is that all it does is make a bigger bell. This is the hornady ptx that goes in their powder drop similar to the Dillon, but you can see it doesn't just create a large bell in the way the Dillon powder funnel does. I also run an EGW undersized die in station 1 for what it's worth.
  9. This is what happens when I run the flare out to 0.020". The bullet seater die crushes the case mouth.
  10. This is what happens when I run the flare out to 0.020". The bullet seater die crushes the case mouth. The opening to the Lee bullet seater die is only 0.445", I cannot believe that the flare needs to be 0.443" (od) 0.420" (id) to accept a bullet that's 0.400.
  11. Alright. I made comparisons tonight. They Dillon flare doesn't even begin to hold the bullet correctly. The Hornady ptx, I can set it into with a slight amount of pressure, turn it upside down, and it won't fall out. Dillon flare, .015" won't stand up PTX .010", bullet stays in upside down
  12. I haven't measured. I've always done it by feel, as little as possible to get a satisfactory result. Just barely visible is my usual rule. I'll play with it tonight, see where it's at, and if it's under what's recommended I'll adjust out to it and see how it works. I assume the .015-.020" is beyond the finished dimension of the case. So 0.423 + 0.015. Thanks for the feedback, hopefully I can get it consistent.
  13. I've been running my 650 for a month or two now and one thing I've noticed is that I hate the flare on the powder drop. It seems like it doesn't want to flare the case in a way that makes it hold the bullet once it's set in it. Loading 40 with 200gr blue bullets. I swapped my Hornady powder drop into my tool head and the flare from the ptx just holds the bullet perfectly 90% of the time. I feel like I have to guide the bullet up to the die with my Dillon powder drop doing the flare. Is there something I'm missing here? They're both adjusted to just barely flare the case mouth.
  14. Any good tricks for removing rust from steel grips and MSH checkering? Shooting a black CK with a steel grip, MSH is getting a good bit in the checkering and the grip is starting to get it in the crevices of the pattern.
  15. I'll probably move back to them after I finish these 200 grain bullets I have. I bought 5000 thinking I would like them on a recommendation. Gonna tinker with the oal and maybe bump the charge up a hair
  16. Unfortunately I built the load around velocity, just trying to squeak over power factor and be soft. I've got 2500 of the 200 grain bullets left so I'll play with the charge. My guess is it's just not stable for the weight at 835 fps.
  17. I'm currently at 4.1 gr of clean shot behind a 200gr blue bullet @ 1.175. I'm not really getting the accuracy I think I should. CK Limited 5" with kkm barrel. Anyone got a recipe?
  18. The biggest thing I practice with limited space is distance and speed. I try to spend at least 100 rounds working on becoming more accurate and faster at distances (25-35 yards). The more you do that, the more you'll learn to call your shots. Two targets, draw, two rounds each. Call your misses, count the rounds on paper after each mag. I also throw in Bill drills, and do what I can with target acquisition (moving between targets) even ifthey're not very far apart, or put them at different distances. Work the basics, you don't always need to be running and shooting side to side.
  19. This is probably the smartest post in this thread.
  20. Also, EGW U Die came in today. Turns out it works. First 100 with it passed wonderfully.
  21. I get it. But the FEA in varmint als website is interesting reading
  22. I always lube the cases, it's just a million times nicer. On topic with what bigedp51 posted, I stumbled on this the other day which is quite contrary: https://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=466502 Post #9, Post #21, and this link contained somewhere within: http://www.varmintal.com/a243zold.htm The FEA contained in the varmintal link is super interesting stuff.
  23. Got it. Figured as much, need to train that way.
  24. I have this problem from time to time, and it showed up big time last night. Three times on a string of six shots weak hand I bumped the safety on. Is the solution to just wrap your thumb over the safety on the right side? Is there a specific technique for gripping the gun weak handed that maybe I haven't learned other than thumb placement? My thumb was under the thumb safety with my weak hand, strong hand rests on top when shooting strong hand or freestyle.
