  1. Mike shoots a lot of IDPA (and does really well). I think his point was more about the fact that he has to un-carry his carry gun (which normally has a WML and is appendix-carried) in order to compete in the "realistic" shooting sport that's supposed to be for carry gear. We also shoot a ton of low light at our club. With your concern about lights becoming mandatory - it would be the matter of adding a sentence to the WSB that requires the shooter to use a handheld light regardless of whether or not their gun has one. IDPA could also write it into the rules that lenses of WML's must be covered with tape (just like what they do for integral lasers now). Yeah, the light becomes a de-facto frame weight at that point. To which I cite the USPSA response on the matter: "So?". We still have a box and a relatively low max weight, but allowing them would let shooters practice with their actual carry gear. Which was sorta the founding principle of IDPA, no?
  2. Appreciate the feedback. I'm not attached to this sight - I'll probably try ordering a different first.
  3. Quick question for everyone in the single-action club... I'm fitting new sights to a 1911 slide (Kimber so my options are limited). I just installed a Fusion unit in the rear dovetail and it... slid right in. I've literally never had that happen with any of the other 1911 rear sights I've fit. There's resistance when shifting the sight but it can be done by hand without a punch. I tightened the set screw and the sight seems to lock down but there's daylight visible beneath the whole underside: Do you think red Loc-Tite is enough here? Or should I just ditch it for something with a better fit? I just now found that Heinie makes a ledge sight that should be compatible...
  4. No arguments from me. My interpretation is 8.1.8 stands as-is and they're being more flexible with the rules in 8.2.2.2 and 8.2.2.3, but it's just that - an interpretation. I also think the SSP statement is an oversight and they're not intending to prevent you from changing sights but no one knows until it's official.
  5. Oh... you've seen me shoot...
  6. Bull barrels have specific language under 8.1.8 that says: Heavy and/or cone style barrels without a barrel bushing except as allowed in ESP, CCP, BUG and CDP divisions with length restrictions. Lights and comps don't. I take that as them removing the length restriction from the ESP appendix and not blowing away 8.1.8 entirely. Now, sight blocks....
  7. I tend to read that as 8.1.8 setting the ground rules and then 8.2.2.2 clarifying/amending for a division. In other words, weighted grips are disallowed, but anything less than 2oz over stock isn't considered "weighted". I think the bigger question is: "Is a backstrap considered grips?"
  8. That's my take. This has been an unofficial policy amongst the AC's for months - I think they finally got tired of people asking about it. I know one of the big points of contention was the disallowing of "cone/heavy barrels", particularly when the X-Five was considered legal... I'm guessing this new policy doesn't overrule 8.1.8 and that's where all the fun stuff lives. So, still no lights, weights, etc...
  9. "Angel or Alien" by Born of Osiris. Like I have been consistently since it premiered. Dear Lord, what a song.
  10. That's what I'm saying - it's frame reinforcement. If only some intrepid firearm designer made a revolver that fired from the bottom to avoid these issues...
  11. Good to know. I'm admittedly no CZ expert, but I always tell people to weight their actual gun with a mag and not trust published weights (my squadmate at Regionals last year learned this the hard way with a PPQ SF).
  12. Was that with a completely unfit top end? Ignoring the good price, that's crazy fast.
  13. Gary is amazing and that gun is gorgeous. Congrats!
  14. It only exists in emails people have received from the various AC's right now. You're probably fine to employ it up-to and including a regional level but I would adhere to the official rules for things like Nationals until changes are formalized.
  15. The gun generally sounds legal for SSP as long as you're not running a magwell or anything. The trigger might be a winkle; I'm assuming that's a short reset model? Is the physical trigger component the same and you've changed internals? Or is it a whole different trigger unit? The former is fine for SSP, the latter will kick you to ESP. You're probably on the bleeding edge of size and weight with a mag inserted so I'd check that, as well.
  16. That's the sort of info I was hoping to find. I might just pay the extra for Springer since I know they'll be GTG.
  17. Has anyone tried the Strike +5 extensions on the factory 15 or 17-round mags?
  18. Maybe trying to tempt Limited shooters to show up with downloaded mags? There aren't (m)any other big matches in that timeframe.
  19. On the last point - I imagine that's personal preference. What I prefer is my support hand wrapping all the way around my strong hand with my pinky resting on the front edge of the butt for additional control (hence the shortening work I did to this set). Yes, Hogue sized these so that my hand locks in with very little room before the butt section. I'm the same way - I can fit both hands onto the grip with room to spare on the "factory" ones. I've done well with those, too, but the custom-size ones are next-level.
  20. That's what it boils down to for me. I run a few locals and have helped out at bigger matches; aside from ordering plaques, I don't see how 6 vs. 7 divisions is some huge savings in terms of effort. 8 round neutral arrays aren't really that hard to design (and won't be going anywhere as long as SS exists anyway).
  21. 100% "You can change every internal part of your 4 pound gun and add a light - but you better remove that factory magwell!"
  22. That actually seemed low for the IRC. I only shot it in 2018 but it was 173 folks back then. I wonder how much is general decline and how much is the fact that most of us need a VERY specific handload (and primer) to compete, whereas most other divisions/sports have the option of factory ammo.
