  1. Didn't read my "I'm not recommending it" line, did you, before you got triggered?
  2. Definitely my read into it. Since IDPA took the stance of "not shooting your carry gun" w.r.t. Appendix, etc., USPSA stepped up to grab that market. We see a lot of folks at our local matches here shooting a carry setup as skill building, and many of them are at least competitive. It's been funny to see how many light-capable holsters are in use... and folks have had to take lights off to use them.
  3. A lot of folks who don't shoot USPSA today will, though, and frankly that's the point HQ is after: bring in more shooters. A lot of folks who routinely carry the "short 9mm with WML and extended mags, appendix" are the ones they're after getting to show up. Expect the gun mags to have articles about "the best EDC for USPSA" and such.
  4. Based on what? NROI has stated that lasers are valid in Open because they're optical sighting devices. That's the same thing CO requires per the Appendix, it's just the CO requires it on the slide behind the ejection port. Find the rule that supports the bump.
  5. It might help to actually read the rules and update. Your attempt at snark would be funnier.
  6. There's another line there that talks about this, indirectly, where you'd need RM approval to switch out "gun equipment" or take it off. Yes, it's muddied even further now.
  7. With the new comment about lasers being considered a sighting device, does that mean that if someone made a laser that attached to an MOS mount (think something that rose just enough above it to shine a beam, perhaps even removing the front right to do so or being high enough to go over) that it would be legal in Carry Optics now? You could even make it offset, slightly, so that you could still use the sights... I'm not recommending it, just asking.
  8. At least an hour and a half of AC and hydration between the local match and this one.
  9. Source: https://nroi.org/rules-qa/flashlights-magnets-and-hip-bones/ Also, two interesting points on lasers: 1) even though they meet the current definition of flashlight (battery power, light emitting), they're specifically not allowed to be used, but 2) can be attached if not used.
  10. I'm seeing a lot more U shooters, especially in the "less popular" divisions. I'm personally looking at shooting more in Limited/Limited 10, if only because I have a crapton of way-too-hot .40 that I wasn't using before vs. having less 9mm now, and several guns I've never really "run" for competition. I might also swap back to Single Stack for a while with the .45 stash I've got, including more Syntech .45 than 9mm.
  11. I see the info about two flights, but not start times for AM and PM flights. I squadded into a PM slot - what's the start time for those? I might actually have time to shoot my local Steel Challenge match that morning before the Area 4 match in the afternoon.
  12. Just signed up for two guns in this match. Will see which squads are available. This may be the competition debut for my Glock 37.
  13. Why would you think that? It gets asked about a lot.
  14. Then he definitely screwed up. First string is T2 only, second string is T1 then T3.
  15. It does when the WSB specifies the order vs. "either T1 or T3."
  16. I think we agree on this. You're welcome to have a magnet. You're also welcome to use it on the COF, which means you've decided to shoot Open. Easy-peasy.
  17. Many of the commenters here ARE match staff.
  18. It only matters to me in terms of uniform enforcement of the rules.
  19. As long as it's behind the point of the hip (correct gear placement for Prod/CO), sure, but why risk it? https://www.multibriefs.com/briefs/uspsa/magnets042519.pdf
  20. You're not doing anyone a favor by doing this. Educate them, have them remove the magnet, tell them why, and enforce the rules. Level 1 matches are a great place for new competitors to learn the rules and don't require a "surprise bump to open" to do it. Just talk to your competitors, especially in your new shooter briefings. You're doing those, right?
  21. Enough that there's a rule about it. And I've issued a DQ for loading before "make ready" once. Loaded table start. Competitor approached the line, unholstered and began inserting a magazine before make ready. Earned them a "Stop, Unload and Show Clear" and no more shooting that day. There's also lots of it happening at the trunks of cars where competitors step out with concealed carry guns and take them off their belt, etc., to put them in the car (or the reverse at the end of a match). That's a loaded gun, too, and falls under match rules.
  22. Of course there is. There's a rule about dropping during the COF, and a rule about being loaded at any time other than during the COF.
