  1. 2 gun matches sort of exist now in USPSA. Buy a PCC, and shoot it and your handgun at any match. I'm considering doing that. I think I can get a sub 2000 that uses my M&P magazines, so I won't need to change belt gear. Just geta few huge mag extensions and change mags depending on the gun in my hand. Extended mags for PCC and shorter for Carry Optics. But I want to see someone shoot PCC before I spend the $ on the gun and optic.
  2. Memphis, our RO and I were talking after Sundays match and he told me that my brass, "Was just rolling out of the gun". OK, so ejection with light loads has never been energetic, but the new tight fit barrel is responsible for even less energetic ejection, as are the powderpuff minor PF loads. It's just a characteristic of the various conditions coming together. The gun functions 100%, so I'm not concerned at all. Now I can make A zone head shots so I'm keeping things just as they are. I wish I had fitted the new barrel even tighter. But I tried to fine tune it a bit too much with the wrong tool. One stroke of the file went from too tight to not as tight as I would have liked to have it. I wanted to produce malfunctions and work from there. I probably should have stoned it when I got to the too tight part. ...Next barrel. I don't know that I feel a reduction in recoil, but that makes sense. It was fairly soft shooting before the operation.
  3. There is the factor of the bigger hole on target. A 9mm hole near a higher scoring line could count for the higher score if it was made by a .45.
  4. Just close it when done. No need to jump through hoops. BTW, cool and dry means no standing or dripping water and if you're comfortable there the powder and primers will be too. No one reading this will live long enough for powder and primers stored under "cool, dry" storage conditions to degrade. So what happens if it does degrade? Powder just loses it's oomph and primers don't explode. It doesn't explode spontaneously or become unsafe. Static? Don't worry about it with smokeless powder. Static will make black powder ignite . I'll also add not to repackage powder. Keep it in the container it came in, and be sure it's clearly labeled. If there is any doubt as to the lineage of the powder (no contamination from other powders) it becomes fertilizer for the garden, or piled on a rock, a 25' flame for a few seconds. Very impressive at night.
  5. Welcome to the forum! Reloading isn't difficult, just follow the rules and a load book. Be cautious about loads you hear about online. Sometimes rules can appear to be broken, and sometimes not. As a noob you have no idea which is which. I load for wildcats and over the years I've come to know what I don't like and those loads that I do, but you don't have that available to you. If you find an online load, be sure to check it against a load manual. You don't want to make a mistake with the fast powders that we use. On this forum if an unsafe load was posted I think it would be called out pretty quickly. So I don't mean here as much as in the wild west of the 'net.
  6. Yup, at 3-6' sights aren't even required. Actually it's not difficult to extend that range even more and keep all shots in the A zone. We had a stage this past weekend, a triangle with drums. Starting in the apex of the shooting box, 2 targets in front at point blank range 3 (! not 2) shots in every target. Back up and 4 more targets are presented, back up a bit more and another 4. The farthest shot was possibly 6'. Just look over the gun and point it for all A zone hits just as fast as one could run the trigger. The hard part? 3 shots per instead of 2. I don't remember how many times I had to go back to a previously shot target to add another bullet to it. A fun stage, a great way to warm the gun up in a very short time.
  7. I think I remember reading that thread. Yup, dittos. Randy makes a great product that works. I'd check it, but Firefox doesn't appear to like links through this forum.
  8. Munson, you've got to try the different loads to see what suits you. It's not really a can of worms. It's just what someone prefers; there is no right or wrong to it. A fast bullet has a different feel to the recoil than a slow bullet. It's quite noticeable, at least to myself and others. The fast bullet has a sharp rap, and the slow bullet is more of a push. My M&P never really did eject Minor PF brass with authority. But now with the new spring assembly, the 160 gr powderpuff loads and the fitted barrel our RO was talking to me and he told me that the brass just rolls out of my gun. It's reliable, that's the strange part.
  9. Very very close to real hatred... One of my pet peeves are shooters who don't know the difference between a bullet and a cartridge/round/ammo. We're shooters, we're supposed to know! Hellywood doesn't and they're welcome to their ignorance and to demonstrate it. You have no idea how much dislike I have for shooters who allow Hellywood to dictate our definitions and seemingly don't know the definitions. Hey! Wake up! It's what we do! The other thing high on my list... "The democratic convention"; "The democratic primary". it's the "Democrat convention" and the "Democrat primary" and they're democrats not democratics, you ninnies! (talking heads) Has anyone ever heard of the Republicanic Convention or the Republicanic Primaries? Of course not. They're Republicans. Democracy/democratic is a form of government, not a political party, The party is Democrat. The form of government, at least in the USA is a Republic, not Republican.
  10. Thank the Almighty for micro red dots. Just sayin' ! I always dropped points in the past for shooting no shoots. I haven't hit a no shoot in many comp's. It makes a huge(!) difference. Thanks to the BOD for CO division too! Thanks ! It's appreciated, don't think it isn't!
  11. And after the price of the bullets there is the brass, powder, and primers; all parts of the cartridge, but of course the bullets are the most expensive.
  12. IMO the trigger issues are fixed by either smoothing up the existing parts or installing an Apex of choice. If it's a carry gun I'm on record as being against a light trigger for those. If it's a target gun, take it down to anything you want. A better trigger will narrow down the problem. On my 9c I only smoothed up the parts. On my comp' gun I did a lot and the trigger is nothing like the way it came into my hands. As far as bullet placement on paper, if you really suspect that it's you the better trigger will again, narrow it down. If it still shoots off point of aim you'll need to drift one or both sights. I didn't see where you said there was a vertical adjustment required, but that can be fixed too. It's no big deal. I wouldn't yet, but once you know if it's you or the gun, call S&W and they'll fix it for you. I don't know if the new and improved trigger will void the warranty if they fire it and experience it. I sent mine back with the OEM parts installed and changed them back again once it was back in my hands. Something else that might help your grip is skateboard tape or pre-cut grip panels designed to fit the gun. I'm a tightwad, so I bought a huge piece of skateboard tape for $6 I think it was. A more aggressive grip will remove that possible SNAFU, and it's an inexpensive solution. If 3-4" groups at 25 yards is sufficient for you you're done. If you want more accuracy go the Apex barrel route. Don't even consider another. The barrel is $200 and the tools for you to fit it are approx' another $60 (pillar file, Dykem, diamond hone). You might not even need the diamond hone. Mine is still in the packaging. It's not hard to fit the barrel, just go slow. If your skill with a file isn't up to the job find someone who does have good skills and buy them a 6 pack. The job will be done in under 30 minutes. Or get a gunsmith fit barrel and pay more for the work. Apex has a video that shows how to do it and a .pdf instruction sheet. That should get it up to speed IMO.
  13. B585, I shot a match today and while the Apex barrel did nothing for my speed, it definitely helped with accuracy. I was making head A zone hits, many of them, and there's no way I could have made them, except by luck, with the other barrel. The RO did tell me that my brass was just rolling out of the gun. That's a combination of recoil spring assembly, barrel fit, and just making minor PF with a 160 gr bullet. No malfunctions though. I wish I had done this months ago instead of playing games and scratching my head.
  14. I just did this today after installing a new barrel inmy M&P. Worked fine, but that doesn't mean anything for other guns. I also didn't have time to chrono' the load.
  15. I installed the barrel today and had a chance to shoot it. Find the post here , post #45: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=231347&page=2#entry2588621 It installed much faster than I anticipated and with far fewer strokes of the file than I though it would take. Actually it was way too tight, then much looser than I wanted with only another 1 1/2" stroke of the file. Then I worked on the bottom pad and made sure I left that tight.
  16. I was going to hold off on fitting the barrel, but I had some time today, and as it turned out to shoot it after fitting it. My intention was to fit it tighter than I actually fit it. I thought I might have ruined it, but as it turns out I didn't. Here are the targets. www.dropbox.com/s/bnuvl2dgg9a56s4/Wilson%20barrel.jpg?dl=0 www.dropbox.com/s/rupqqymmnl5s4y5/Apex%20barrel%2025%20yds.jpg?dl=0 Where the hits are on the paper isn't as important as the size of the spread of the shots. The first target is of a factory (unfitted) barrel. There are 2 groups, 6 shots on the left one (One shot off the paper) and the other has 5 shots all fired at 15 yards with a 6 O'clock hold on the bullseye. The 2nd group is with the fitted barrel. Same 6:00 hold. But instead of it being 15 yards, this was fired at 25 yards. The group is still less than 1/2 the size of the other groups. The same ammo was used for all groups. Bayou bullets 160 gr loads. That's more like what I want! I'm pretty happy right now. I wasn't going to use the barrel for tomorrows match, but that flew out the window with the shooting I did today. It's reliable.
  17. I have an 3moa RM06 RMR on a M&P. On auto adjust it's plenty big enough, if I put it on manual, one click down, I find the dot smaller and better for hair splitting accuracy and still plenty visible. It's a good compromise. You know that the dot can be made to appear larger or smaller based on brightness, right? But a too large dot can never be made smaller by dimming it.
  18. Well, guns in CA. Maybe others (NY, CT?). So??? I don't plan on going to those states I was answering IronArchers question. It's not about you, sorry. Why would you think that it was?
  19. Well, guns in CA. Maybe others (NY, CT?).
  20. Many years ago when I shot Bullseye matches I found that any caffeine was good to help me drop at least 30 points. On a shooting day it's a no-no for me. It might help others, but not me. I do make "breakfast cookies" which contain eggs, flour, oats, raisins, dates, butter, cane sugar sap, and maybe some other things that I can't remember. I eat a few of those and take some along, and bring water. Frankly, I don't need to amp up at a match. I want to smooth out. My "problem" is that I amp up too much naturally. YMMV (Your mileage may vary) . We all do what we need to do. I'm not suggesting that anyone do this, but back at those Bullseye matches in the mid '70s I know for a fact that some of the competitors would down a beer before shooting to calm them down and reduce the shakes. I didn't, but they did and they claimed that it helped.
