  1. Here is a link to it w/o the competition sight CZ75 SP01
  2. in a .355 bore..I have used Nowlin, Kart, EGW and Schuemann..all have been great shooters.. the fitting will be more important than the brand name on it...
  3. Hey..I am just glad someone was around to help me out when I needed it... also glad that this gun got a home where someone appreciates it.. Doug..hope you enjoy it..
  4. Looks a lot like the original Novak competition sight...good sight picture for the range..
  5. Excellent..the gun sounds like a good one and the sights look very good...
  6. Lastest.. Mt St. Helens...steam eruptions... anyone remember the first one..I was in Corvallis OR going to school.. very humbling
  7. might try emailing Angus ... think he is one their lead shooters... I do believe it is on the USPSA production list when the new rulebook goes into effect..
  8. that was my very first IPSC rig..an Ernie Hill LE model..nice stuff for the day..nicely crafted leather with steel insert... Ernie stopped doing IPSC gear and went back to doing fast draw leather gear..Think Ernie holds or did hold some world records in the fast draw world of competition.. every now and then you can find his stuff on the auction sites..but no new stuff...
  9. F1s were one of the great persuaders of the time....one upside the head always would convince someone of your point...
  10. actually the CF cards aren't bad..we use the 512 80X and the 1Gb cards.. what you do need is a lot of RAM for photoshop this is from galbraiths website on the new Canon "Did we mention that EOS-1Ds Mark II photos at full resolution contain 16.61 million pixels? That means an in-camera JPEG will open into Photoshop as a 47.5MB file, a RAW CR2 photo will open to the same size if processed into 8-bits per colour and a whopping 95.1MB if processed into 16-bits per colour. That's a lot of picture data."
  11. Nik....good idea...I might need to investigate that path...thanks for the suggestion.. oh here we go..stories 1985, I remember ( or think I do ) getting throttled on sideline of NFL game..F3HP..cracked mirror box..Nikon totals.. 1993 dropped F4s from shoulder height with 400 2.8..top of F4 blown up on impact.. 2000, D1 dropped from top of armored humvee to ground in Bosnia..dented on bottom but remains workable through rest of assignment.. the new cameras..actually seem pretty durable..
  12. Actually I loved my F5s ..and the D2 is pretty solid and feels pretty good to hand.e..but the sensor lacks compared to the Canon CMOS chip...the newer D2X is supposed to have a 12 megapixel CMOS chip..but the new Canon I think has a 16 megapixel CMOS.. one of the telling things was one of my guys was in Athen shooting soccer..He had a 600mm and the guy next too him had a 300mm..He asks him isn't the 300 a little short..and the other photographer replied..nah...I'll just crop it.. later in the office..my guy looked at the cropped image..and it was holding sharpness with no pixelization and was still 7.5 megs....
  13. I am jealous too...we are heavily invested in Nikon..it would be a hard trick to get the company to shell out that many $$$$ to switch us over..but I am wishing.. I am hoping that the Nikon D2X is worthwhile..it will have a new sensor..which I hope holds some promise.. did you hear the Associated Press in the US..dumped all its Nikon stuff and is switching its staff to Canon...wow...that is a big switch...
  14. Bruce's article was quite good... seems different guns had different strengths..ease to shoot, ease to reload, accuracy, etc.. You may need to consider that the XD is not on the IPSC approved list...but I think it is OK for USPSA production.. CZ is hopefully importing the CZ75SP01 soon. it is on both approved lists..looks good in that it has heavier frame..supposedly 18 round mags..shorter reach in the DA portion of the trigger.. another possibility would be the Beretta 92 E2..lots of mags around for it. another fun one..is the Steyr M9..small, low boreline.. other guns that were mentioned in the article..Sigs, HK, Smith 5906..
  15. I second Nik's suggestions on the websites... Rob is one of the newpaper industry leading experts on digital photography, software, hardware and technique.. www.robgalraith.com Sports Shooter is a grouping of the best, brightest and wannabes of sports photography..most of them are newpaper, magazine, freelance photojournalist..they use the gear..know what works and doesn't .. lots of great discussion there.... www.sportsshooter.com The Canon USM stuff is fantasitc...Canon also has the trickest chip in the EOS1D and EOS1Ds
  16. Let us know how it turns out..
  17. The stuff is great..I got several holster and mag pouches that are first rate.. the CS seems hit and miss..one holster took a couple of months..another was a week from my calling..emails have been sparce..but he has always picked up the phone when I have called.. there are a couple of third partu vendors that stock Kytac...and there are more and more decent products coming from others.. other you might look at...Cen-dex, center of mass and comp-tac.. http://www.cen-dex.com/ http://comkydex.com/ http://comp-tac.com/index.html they all seem like well made and thought out stuff too..
  18. part of my practice seesion..be it 1 magazine or ends up being most of my practice session..is I shoot dots.. I will pull a small piece of black tape and put it on a target...working from about 10-15 yards..I will draw and shoot one shot using the tape as a POA.. my drill is to shoot 6 one shot draws..the goal is to have all six shots touch.. then I will progress to two shots per draw.. then draw, shoot two, reload, shoot two.. this tends to work my flinch out and works on my patience to see what I need to see to break the shot.. when I was shooting a lot..a friend and I would compete and shoot for the tightest group in the quickest time...I lost a lot of lunches and beer doing that..
  19. Thanks for the info.. Is your gun set up with portholes in the barrel and slide..or are you just running a comp? how many chambers..up? side?
  20. I tend to like fast lenses..in the 2.0 to 2.8 range..I like wide angle lenses as they tend to be a lot of fun...I find short telephotos, long glass and micro lenses a must necessity... in my Nikon stuff I have from several lenses from 14 to 400mm 2.0 to 2.8 f/stop range.. same with my Contax G2..but only from 21 to 90mm the Canon stuff is really good stuff...and I tend to like to stay with the manufacturer lenses...instead of trying to save a few bucks and going with third party vendors...for the most part the high end stuff is pretty close to the same...as there are only so many makers of glass in the world..but sometimes there are features that are missed...
  21. woo hoo..another master..congratulations..I am hoping someday I can get my L10 master card... it is a great accomplishment..and it probably seems everyone is looking at you and asking your advise on how to shoot... pretty soon it will all wear off and you can get back to what you were doing to get there... as Shred said..see the sights, call the shot, and drive...
  22. Here is Matt's forum too... http://mattmclearn.com/phpBB2/index.php
  23. Hey Jack..you have been at this as about as long as I have...any insights on you get yourself into a positive mindset... I think your life has changed and evolved about as much as mine has... stuart
