  1. Spoke with Bayou today. Yes, the 115gr bullet profile has changed. Change was based on improved accuracy with the new profile. They have been swamped, as have most reloading suppliers, with orders which I suspect is why the website doesn't note the change. At least it wasn't a case of my Redding Competition Seating die going bonkers
  2. I've been loading 115gr Bayou (and Acme) for several years. My last order of Black Cherry was in December (8000 rounds). Since then I've order Gold to differentiate my 1911 and PCC. The Black Cherry bullets are 0.575" long, while the more recent Gold bullets are 0.547" long and the short bullets are obviously more blunt. I'm going to call Bayou on Monday, but has anyone else noticed this? FWIW I have about 400 bullets from a few years back in all four of the original colors and they are all 0.575" so it would appear the Bayou has changed molds. My CMMG barrel has a very short throat so I've had to move the OAL down from 1.115" to 1.08". Might have to go a bit shorter for my wife's PCC which has a Wiland barrel.
  3. If you haven't done so you might look over AR15.com. There is a ton of information there regarding CMMG equipment. Some folks are experiencing issues with accuracy and certainly there are accuracy issues with some ammo. The newer barrels have a shorter throat than the original 9mm barrels. I have found that I need to load 115gr Bayou bullets to 1.115" +- in my new 8" CMMG and as I recall I can load longer in my original 16" barrel. My Wiland-barreled PCC ammo with the same bullet is loaded to 1.105". I don't generally test for accuracy as long as I can hit a 10" steel plate at 18 yards, but might do so my next time at the range.
  4. Just to update the 8" CMMG load results: this PCC will also cycle the 2.8 gr SP load with the 115gr Bayou bullets. Ejection is very strong.
  5. UPDATE: Fyland makes a short one (12-slot one as well). Ordered on Amazon. Ordinary googling was useless unless you have exactly the right descriptors. I'm using a Holosun 507 on my PCC. Really like the reticle, but with the smallish eyebox I could really use a riser more on the order of 1.2". I hate the thought of stacking a 0.75" and 0.5". Have googled extensively without success. Any suggestions? I could swap with my wife's 510; perhaps she wouldn't notice.
  6. Google CM machine. I have the 0.065 inserts on two of my 1911s and they made a big difference. They also sell a 0.032 set.
  7. Just to reiterate, the strong BCM extractor spring didn't do the trick so in my case the extractor, itself, appears to have been at fault. If I start experiencing issues with the now working bolt assembly I'll definitely try the BCM extractor spring as the first fix. Notwithstanding these issues the 8" SBR is a joy to shoot and much easier to transition than my full length upper, but then again I'm old.
  8. Steel Challenge Loads, all with 115gr Bayou 9mm 1911: 3.2gr Sport Pistol. Cycles 100% with acceptable ejection. Winter temperatures required 3.4gr 9mm PCC with Wiland barrel: 2.8gr SP. Taccom extreme bolt and 3-stage buffer 9mm CMMG with 8" barrel: 3.2gr SP. Standard AR lower with 3 oz. buffer as recommended by CMMG. Can probably go lower with this rifle, but had been troubleshooting an ejection issue. I don't general chrono for steel challenge, but will be doing so when I get a chance. The PCCs are obviously very soft shooting. The CMMG will cycle everything from defensive rounds down to the very soft competition loads. Both PCCs are using AR lowers.
  9. I go down as low as 3.0gr/115gr for my 9mm 1911 and 2.8gr/115gr in my wife's PCC. Haven't had a problem. This "issue" comes up periodically on various forums, but I'm not sure I've ever seen anything more than an anecdote and likely the aforementioned reference to a caution on certain powder manufacturer's websites. I believe SP is consider to be "pretty fast"
  10. Final update: CMMG had also sent me an Extractor with spring. Put this in the original bolt and the rifle ran 100% with five different loads including a very soft load that I run in my 9mm 1911. When I receive the complete bolt assembly from CMMG I'll try that also, but even if it runs I'll be reluctant to let go of the now working bolt. I can breath a sigh of relief. Certainly CMMG was very supportive.
  11. I assume you do have a weight (45 ACP case) added to the primer "assist rod"? I had some issues with S&B, but never with either CCI or Win SP, and that's running an autodrive at 1500 or 1800 rounds/hour.
  12. I've installed a BCM extractor spring and CMMG ejector spring and will try this out today. Bryan (from CMMG) is also sending me a new bolt. I'll post results as available. It is baffling that the "old" bolt from my original 16" Guard has no issues.
  13. I ordered 10K CCI SP primers from Lohman, but they are backordered. Price was fine and I should have them in advance of need.
  14. My wife's PCC with Wiland barrel weighs 5 lbs. without optics. My 8" SBR (CMMG) weighs a bit more, but is much easier to swing than a full 16" barrel with real handguard. The Wiland is a sweet configuration for steel challenge. I'll use the ADM lower on the CMMG for both SC and home defense.
  15. Good info. I'm planning on higher quality, lower round count practices, but it's hard to resist going to the range 3x/week especially now that I have an AMG timer in hand.
  16. When I started loading coated about 200K rounds ago the prevailing wisdom was to start with a plated load. That's what I did and went softer from there (as is the desire shooting steel challenge). FWIW, Alliant now has load data for Acme coated bullets, but of course only for their powders. I think most have found that N320 is pretty close to SP load data wise.
  17. When you select the shooters page in Practiscore there is a stopwatch icon in the upper r/h corner next to the sync icon. Select that and the timer should appear and be selected. Unlike a conventional BT device it doesn't appear that the timer is literally paired to the tablet; the timer just needs to be visible to the tablet.
  18. I didn't have BT push on; see my note, above. Working now.
  19. Received my AMG timer a few days ago. Downloaded the Practiscore Log app and spent 45 minutes at the range this am understanding the interface. The timer is the perfect size with great ergonomics and the GUI is the best example of "less is more". I had absolutely no problem interfacing with my Samsung S8. The BT interace with a 10" Kindle didn't work but I don't consider that much of an issue. I used the timer yesterday when my wife was practicing with her 22lr pistol and rifle; absolutely no effort required to pick up the shots. Tablet Update: When I first interfaced the Log app with my phone I believe the timer ID simply popped up in the upper l/h corner, but without reinstalling the app I can't verify. In the case of the tablet I had to select the timer menu and then hit the synchronize symbol in the upper r/h corner of that menu; the timer ID popped up and I simply had to select. The log app is, of course, great for practice even if you're too old to improve. Even if your club isn't using the new timer you can have a friend/spouse run a parallel tablet in the background and just have the RO use "your" timer, at least at Tier 1 matches. FWIW I use a Gen 7 8" Kindle. There is a simple process for adding Google Play Store functionality which is required for installing PS Competitor, PS Log and other Android-only apps.
  20. For my wife's "just for fun" Wiland-barreled PCC I used a Foxtrot Mike Glock lower. Pretty much runs like a watch. For my configuration using a CMMG 8" upper I used an ADM lower with CMMG-configured Endomags. I'll use it for steel challenge and will try USPSA just for fun as the only PCC shooter having to do a mag change.
  21. I've order the BCM springs with little to loose. The strange thing is that the new bolt with an obviously stiffer extractor spring is the one that only functions with factor ammo.
  22. CMMG is send a bunch of springs and a new extractor. The extractor on the old bolt is a less beefy and the spring not as stiff as on the new bolt (with which I'm having an issue). It if weren't for the issue with the 147gr Win PDX I'd say that the new design is tuned for factor loads, but the PDX FTE was on the first shot so no issue regarding bullet profile, etc. The extractor spring difference is very apparent when I simple press and inert round into the breech face of the two bolts. I might have expected the old design with a weaker extractor spring to be more susceptible to ejection issues?
  23. Tried the 507 yesterday and had no trouble keeping my right eye in the eye box. I did notice the benefit of the smaller sight (versus 510) in terms of target acquisition; much less of the visual field is obscured by the small sight. Also found the smaller circle to work a bit better than the 65 MOA.
  24. I have a Wiland barrel (no ramp) and a Glock mag lower. It feeds just fine. Not sure why you might need the external ramp.
  25. If you have problem with the blue loctite, go to green as recommended by Dawson when necessary. I have a rear sight that was over-filed by a gunsmith and is now "hand tight". Hasn't moved with green loctite in several thousand rounds. Green will even wick into the dovetail after installation.
