  1. Clean everything good and use a little epoxy like devcon or brownells bedding compound. You need an adhesive not a threadlocker.
  2. marvel mystery oil...best stuff out there and it's cheap too!
  3. The least aggravating way to get a decent trigger is to buy a set of parts the were all built to be a drop in set. Having trigger jobs done on stock parts seems to be an hit or miss proposition.
  4. Nothing wrong with being a trigger snob...but you can tie up a lot of money searching for the perfect trigger. 1911 folks seem to be the worst (self included).
  5. hard chrome looks great and has great self lubricating properties.
  6. I was a member over at the hide for many years. Just all the discussion of paying for premium content turns me off.
  7. I agree with the poster above....not a fan of a 1911 in 9mm. The weight of the slide is heavy and the 9mm just doesn't seem to have the recoil energy to make them work well.
  8. This is the reason I got rid of my Springfield in 9mm. I could not get it to feed reliably.
  9. Say what you want about Taurus 1911's but their frames and slides are forged. I would bet money that a lot of the Springfield frames and slides are still forged in Brazil as well. Just about anything short of a full on custom I will end up throwing out the fire control parts and putting in quality tool steel parts (I like Nowlin but there are lots of good ones out there). just about all 1911's are projects...at least to me.
  10. I have had similar experiences with Springfields Colts and most other 1911's. High round counts of 45 are hard on guns.
  11. Might not be a bad gun. I built a 45 on a stainless frame/slide and it turned out to be a pretty good gun.
  12. Find a stainless Springfield Target Loaded model and have someone install a set of Nowlin internals. You will have a great gun with will do everything a single stack should.
  13. Get the carbide die...I had been trying to do it without one and it has been nothing but aggravation.
  14. Seems like the powder situation is getting better...but 22's are harder to come by. We were at one of the large gun shops that is also an FFL distributor last weekenf and they had limits on the bricks of 22's. It was the one place that you used to be able to get all the 22 you want.
  15. An 870 home defense shotty is tough to beat. They routinely go for under $400.
  16. I have been looking at some used guns...but it seems there just aren't as many around as there used to be.
  17. I have been loading ammo for 35 years. I couldn't imaging doing this type of shooting without reloading.
  18. Camp Hill, PA here....and I can't even get the map to open!
