  1. My wife had that happen to her a few years ago... she wasy going down an off-ramp off the freeway, when a nut running from the police came flying up it. He just about took her out. :-( She got out of the way for the cops to go past, though.
  2. Thanks for the review's guys. I ordered Saul's book, because of this thread. My friend and I have been practicing, but I have to wonder if our practice could be more effecient. I have ordered Steve's book, already, and have high hopes his printer will get to work soon to print some nice new copies, so I can finally have one! :-) I'll probably pick up Matt's book and new video next month.
  3. I have yet to see the movie, but I REALLY want to. I have read the books twice, and saw the BBC show. The BBC show was boring. I did not like it, though, I loved the books. I have read that if you know the books, the movie is a lot better.
  4. I saw this thread on the ar15.com forums http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=233470
  5. Just don't do what my friend did last night. Shoot your chronograph... Twice... In a row...
  6. I can NOT wait to see this movie. I wish that I could go to one of the "sneak peaks" on May 5, but they are all about a days drive from my place. :-( oh well. After watching the trailer a couple of times, I sat down and watched several of the Firefly DVDs the other night.
  7. It's unfortunate about some of the species that vanish. The carrier pigeon was abundant across the country, and they got hunted to extinction over the course of a few decades. There are 3 birds that have become extinct, that I would have loved to have seen in person. The Carrier Pigeon (Used to raise Birmingham roller pigeons, so I have a soft spot for doves and pigeons), the Carolina Parakeet, and the Dodo bird. I can see how some species of animals die off because of their delicate balance with nature... but it does require gross stupidity to kill off a population of some animals.
  8. I like Pronto Pups, corn dogs. They are always yummy. I tend to also go for Subway Itallian BMTs, and Blimpie "best" sandwiches. Even Quiznoes has an Itallian that is really yummy.
  9. I also suggest not taking your final dive off of a river that has ice flowing down it. It is not as fun as one might expect. Ok, probably, it is about as one would expect. Of course, when I had my final dive, I was wearing rental equipement that didn't fit right, so that water that was just above freezing would wash down the middle of my back. It wasn't the best dive experinece of my life. :-)
  10. Hello, Does anyone know of any software to take the RF output from an 8000 and pull it say, into a computer? I am planning on snagging an 8000. Thanks!
  11. Maybe look at cafe press? I would like to see one of these in a crawler for my 6month old. :-) I already have the Gamer girl and my daddy can frag your daddy crawlers. :-)
  12. Hmmm.. when I took a dive class, they just told us to spit in the lense, and rub it in. :-) Must not be what you are talking about.
  13. I am just getting into USPSA, but I have been around hunting/firearms, my entire life. My first gun was a 12 gauge shotgun, when I turned 12. When I was 14, I shot in a trap league with that shotgun, and did pretty well. Our team came in 2nd overall. Following that, I did not do a lot of shooting, some plinking here and there. About 3 years ago, I went to a CCW class with my wife and parents, and shot my first pistol. My family and I started practicing every-other week, but we found that shooting bullseyes can get boring (though, my dad did give me his old .357 and .32 pistols). Fast forward a few years, and my buddy got into black powder and then Mil-spec rifles. I would go out with him, and usually could hold the rifles a bit better, and score more hits. He later put together an AR15. After finding out how cheap one could be put together for, I decided to pick one up. While researching it, I discovered 3 gun, and my buddy and I were both hooked on the looks of 3gun. From there, we discovered USPSA, and have gone to one fun match, and are looking forward to going to another one. (Having a 6 month old daughter and a wife that works weekends makes shooting a little more difficult). My buddy and I are both competitive by nature. This sport looked like a lot of fun. We were already doing the draw, and see who could dump the most shots into a target accuratly thing... this just gives us some well-defined rules, and a lot of people to humiliate ourselves in front of. :-)
  14. I can honestly say this stuff can work wonders: http://www.motosolutions.com/. I started using it on my glasses, that I wear under my paintball mask. This stuff doesn't work, for me, an entire game, but I think people with normal facial perspiration would have no problems with it. Their customer support is also extremely good.
  15. Have you guys thought about looking at what Paintball is doing? I have been playing paintball for over a decade now, and things have REALLY changed. It has gone from hiding in the trees in Camo, to full blown sports fields with team jerseys that you can buy. With paint flying in all directions, it can be a hassle getting good shots of the action, but camera crews have done it. There is a new "varriation" of the sport that was designed with TV in mind, and many of the newer speedball/tourney fields are being built to make it easier to watch (be it a spectator or camera crew). I think that Paintball and USPSA have similiar "mainstream" drawbacks, and would be good to look at.
  16. Something to help, would be to get the right audience to see it. This is coming from a major new-comer's view. The first hint of USPSA shooting was from Matt Burkett's AR-15 video. That pretty much got me hooked into looking at the sport more. I have shown the videos to several friends, and a few are kind of interested. We are all computer gamers and paintball players (and lets face it, this kind of shooting should be of interest to those that like tactical games likes Rainbow Six, SWAT 4, and to a lesser extent Counter Strike). A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is worth more. USPSA should put up a selection of actual videos of shoots. Find interesting stages and show a person or two going through them. Show the action of the sport. Use these to show others what the sport is like.
  17. Anyone have any tips on fixing this issue. I went out shooting twice last week, and had the EXACT same problem. I benched it, and held it within about 4 or 5 inches... which is good for me. :-) So, I think my pistol is good, but my shooting is bad. I can really see it when dry firing using Dual Action. It I can see just before it breaks, how the front of the gun jumps just to the left, and then back. I keep trying to figure out how to pull straight back, and continue to have problems. I have Matt Burkett's 1-3 video, and have tried to replicate that hold, along with trying to do what BE suggests in his book, but they seem pretty similiar to me. Anyone have any good methods for breaking the twitchy finger habit?
  18. I picked up an 85 recently, myself. Reason 1: My parents are both left handed, and I shoot with them on occasion, makes the gun easier for them to use. Reason 2: I had read that they are slightly better put together than the 75s. NO clue if this is true or not. That was really my only reason, though, I have found, I can hit the slide release with my right trigger finger than I can reach it with my thumb on the other side. It also has the added bonus of keeping my finger away from the trigger during those reloads.
  19. My buddy and I have these on ours: VLTOR. Unfortunately, their own site always seems to be down. They seem to be popular on the http://www.ar15.com forums.
  20. 2 of my last 3 jobs have been outsourced. It really sucks, what I would suggest, is to get on the company's website, and find a feeback link, and complain about out-sourced service. You would probably be surprised by the number of call centers located in Canada, since it is about 25% cheaper to put desks up there, too.

    Trunk Monkey

There are 4 total, that I have seen, do a search on trunk monkey, here: http://www.stupidvideos.com/Default.asp I think the one on big-boys is the best of the 4, though.
  22. The 012 can not be used in production though, right? I have an Uncle Mike's that doesn't work very well, and am looking to go for another one, myself.
  23. I found a link to this site a while back. It may be of some help: http://www.kuci.org/~dany/firearms/all_drills.html
  24. Not sure if anyone cares about a newbies view, but I am going to post it anyway. :-) My buddy and I both have AR15s. Mine is pretty tricked out. It was really built to compete with him, for long range. Well, we then discovered 3-gun and by extension USPSA. (I now have a pistol and am a member) I, for one, really like this idea. I like shooting. This could add spice to the matches, and make them more intersting, and fun. In the local match I went to last week, there was a shotgun side match, and that looked like a lot of fun. I believe, if done right, this could be a large draw. If it is sanctioned by USPSA, people will use it. Maybe not as much as pistol, but it would still be avilable. I really liked the idea someone else posted, about a possible match set up with 2 pistol, 2 shotgun and 2 rifle stages. It mixes things up, allows you to use other skills. Now, as for the rules. I agree with the above poster, with the KISS principle, but I think he may be keeping it too simple. :-) I could see something along the lines of an open (all the bells and whistles) and limited (say, 1 optic... the equivalent of tactical). then, run the pistol GM, M, A,B,C,D classifications. Once you figure out what you want to do, it is easier to figure out how to do it.
