  1. If you want to do it yourself easily, permabond is the way to go. I have used it at work and if the surfaces are prepped correctly it works great.
  2. I haven't tried a 12 but use an 8 after trying other smaller dots.
  3. You would think rimfire entries would be down some as hard as it is to get 22 ammo.
  4. With the center fire gun I lose the dot momentarily but if I keep my focus on the targets and moving to the next one I don't notice the dot moving as much. Sometimes I find myself looking for the dot instead of the target, that's usually when I start missing plates.
  5. Just tell her she's lucky that you didn't go out and buy a corvette.
  6. Post up some pictures when it's complete.
  7. Well I "bit the bullet" (pun intended) and ordered one of the Allchin setback 90 deg. mounts. Seems that any of the issues I might encounter, cleaning more often, etc, will still be better than having brass jam between the top of the slide and the bottom of the mount. It was pretty much guaranteed to happen at the worst possible time too. Thanks for all the input.
  8. Where I live the local sheriff will run the serial number for you. One of the advantages of living in a small town.
  9. Thanks for all the input. I'm hoping to avoid the mistakes I made in building up my 22 open gun. I just kept buying and trying different types of parts. I think I have enough extra rim fire stuff to build a couple of extra pistols.
  10. +1 I did the same thing, but every once in a while I shoot iron sight 22 in Steel Challenge. I had the eye doctor make up a full lens in my bifocal prescription at the distance where my front sight would be with my arms extended. The sights look great but the targets are a bit blurry. Just hold in the middle of the fuzzy white plate and squeeze the trigger.
  11. I started with a Glock and then went to a 2011 open gun. Haven't regretted it yet!!!
  12. Sometimes there is a sharp edge on the seating die where it contacts the bullet. Polishing a slight radius on the inside edge of the seating die might help eliminate your mark.
  13. Is there a benefit to using a set back mount instead of the standard one? I'm fairly new to the speed shooting games but It seems like the set back mounts are an upgraded version of the original.
  14. Thanks for the info guys. My first thought was that the lens would get dirty faster, as the blast shield would only cover one side. Does anyone make a slightly higher mount? I know it's better to have the sight as low as possible but I'd live with a little more height if it got rid of my jams. Would an extra 1/2" of height make that much difference?
  15. I'm thinking of switching the C-more on my STI Steelmaster to a 90% mount for better clearance of the ejection port. Once in a while I get a case that jams between the bottom of the mount and the slide. Are there any issues I should know about or anything that will be drastically different with sight picture, handling, etc. if I switch mounts?
  16. After 30 yrs. of pistol silhouette shooting in which you have to shoot left to right I find it's more of a natural mental thing to do it that way in steel challenge or fun steel. If the target set up dictates a distinct advantage to go the other direction I will.
  17. That looks interesting. I'm thinking I might order some but if vinegar does the same thing I'll try that. Is there any issue with vinegar removing the lens coating?
  18. Bigger's better for Steel Challenge..........my .02 worth.
  19. Nice looking pistol. Do you know if Allchin makes a comp for pistols?
  20. On any "low ready" gun I shoot the same order no matter what gun, centerfire, rimfire pistol or rifle. I do shoot a couple stages different when I shoot a holster drawn centerfire gun, so I rarely shoot a low ready gun and a holster gun in the same match. On the rare occasion that I do, I always space them apart and don't shoot them back to back.
  21. I chose the regular 22/45 over the "lite" model for a little more weight as well. I agree with Bulldog009 about the Maddmac comps. I've only got about 500 rds. through this build but it seems to run great.
