Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Damn man, sounds like it's an accomplishment for you to even shoot half a match! That must be pretty painful. Have you looked into helping with the stats crew for your work shift instead? Or if your on spray paint duty, could you get one of those line/trail marker sticks so that you wouldn't have to bend as much? Hope you can find something to help make it easier to get thru the day.
  2. I made my own set on some note cards, so that when I find something I need to work on I can add it into the mix. Not to mention being a lot cheaper, I also like having it tailored to the type of space I have open to me.
  3. Seems to be the same guys over and over again at my match. They are trying to win with thier gear, not thier shooting. They have everything tuned to the bare min, lightest weight, newest toys and more worried about how it looks than anything else. The gear trap is a hard one to avoid when you are getting into shooting. You see these great shooters running guns worth thousands, and think its correlated. Now I pay special attention to the less flashy guys, who magically place really high lol
  4. So I wanted to update this thread. Saturday was my 3rd match. Was a little self conscious about wearing suspenders, so had them under my polo but over my underarmor, so no one had a clue lol Not having to worry about my gear, was great! Felt good, and really kept everything in place. Think it really helped my focus tho, so thank you to all who suggested them!
  5. Thanks Vlad! Thank you! I shoot a gen 2 glock 17 in production, and my go to target rifle is a savage 223 that has been my pet project for about 2 years now. If you ever travel back up here, be sure to let me know, would be great to share a range with you!
  6. First off, I would like to thank all of those who have built this forum up to what is it now. It is hands down the most positive shooting related forum I have ever came accross. I have recieved a very warm welcome, and find that this fine group of shooters are more about what we have in common, than looking at eachother like we are just competition. The openness and friendly comradery shines through in almost every thread. As a shooter, I am still quite fresh as I have only owner guns for the past 7 years. Growing up my father was a hunter who always stressed the importance of a strong moral charecter and ensure that each shot was ethical and for a purpose. I was always aware of how to be safe around them, and thought of them as tools that needed to be respected instead of a weapon. As a teen I was quite isolated in my own little world, focusing on books and computers, and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. As I got older, I wanted to have more in common with my Dad, as I am a far cry from the outdoorsman he is and much more of a computer nerd. So I took my courses, got my license and got into target shooting. The countless hours I have got to spend with him shooting, talking about shooting, reloading... mean the world to me. These are some great memories I will have forever, and I know he has enjoyed it too. As someone who with anxiety, I had really limited my contact with people. I work in a job that lets me be alone and go weeks without having to actually see another person. With the exception of my wonderful girlfriend and my family, I had pretty much made myself go off the radar of the world. I started adventuring out to the range by myself more often to push my comfort limits, and to make myself get out the house and more importantly, out of my own head. I had seen a few videos for various pistol competitions, but never had imagined actually competing. Til I saw a frequent poster on one of the gun forums post his own hat cam video. The rush of it made me instantly start wondering if I could do that. It looked like FUN. So I sought out a black badge course, and after a few friendly emails with the instructor signed up. My 3rd match is this upcoming weekend, and I am really excited. I am currently a D class shooter, but will be C in no time. My last match I had a bad mental day, and it really tanked my preformance, but with some good advice and a few friendly see you next time's, I knew this was something I was going to be doing again. Now that I have this hobby/passion/obsession, it has made a huge impact in many aspects of my life. I am a member of a few online communities about shooting, and am growing more confident in my knoweldge which feels great. Through shooting my rifle before I had a pistol, I found a immense sense of calm and clearity in focusing on the target. The breathing technique, and concentration made the world get a little quieter and the pride I feel for each good shot, is astounding. After taking my BB course, and attending my first match, shooting infront of all those strangers seemed relatively easy, (which is a pretty big thing for someone who hadnt stepped foot into a mall for 4 years) With the confidence I have gained, I am taking college courses for the first time in my life, and well on my way to becoming a drafter. My final project for my last course was a design challenge, so I drew a adapter to let standard bi-pods accept claw feet. Got myself an 92% Shooting has truly help me, but not nearly as much as the communities I have found because of it. I am still the quiet guy at matches, and I won't be winning any titles anytime soon, but I will forever be thankful for all I have gained by getting into it. Though I still take my medication to help, my anxiety is much more managable, and my general health and well being have greatly improved. For my homework tonight I am designing and drawing a IPSC challenge coin, and I am considering trying my hand at designing a few stages for my local qualifiers and submitting them. I truly look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming matches, and hope to get to travel for a shoot in the States next year. Shoot Safe, Have fun, and find the peace in your life. Brad
  7. I wouldn't try it on a carry on bag, but checked should be okay. No moving parts, just solid rubber. I would print up and laminate a index card with the sentance PROP / SAFETY TRAINING TOOL, in a few of the major languages and pack it with it to make things easier if it gets inspected. I suggested the same to a friend who was travelling for a cosplay convention with a laser rifle he built out of a nerf gun, and he made it from Canada, to USA, and to Japan fine and dandy.
  8. Anyone have one and a SIRT Pistol? Have heard 2 differnt opinons, one says the shotmaxx picks up the dryfire click.reset, the other says it doesnt, so would be great to know forsure
  9. Congrats to you too! Thank you! I was lucky to have kept some of my older pants, so I have some in my current size. Girlfriend says once I am happy at where I am at thou, she is taking me shopping for some new outfits lol I tried just the inner belt tonight and some sprinting, definately noticing some improvement! Thanks again!
  10. looks great! How far does it stick out from the frame? Are you worried about bumping it with your grip hand at all? Really does match the zev, now you just need brass pins, and you'll be looking mighty sharp! Thank you for sharing your project!
  11. My hands are small and I am having to try to find a new grip, as on my glock 17 now, my trigger finger barely reaches the trigger, making my shots go to the left. Since I figured this out I have been trying to look at different ways of gripping it and will certainly be following this topic
  12. I have been, but now that I know I am the oddball (lol) I am going to stop. Maybe that will allow my inner belt to get more tight, without squishing me organs, and keep a better hold on my gear and pants!
  13. I am sorry, should have mentioned that I am using a DAA inner/outer belt combo, Looking for a pair of Stryke pants now, And will re-measure to make sure my inner belt is the correct length. When using a inner belt, do others use a normal belt underneath it too, or am I the only one? lol at the matches, the last thing I am trying to look at on other shooters is the number of belts they have on. Usually too busy gawking/drooling at them fancy race guns
  14. Well, my pants atleast. I am having some problems keeping my pants up during really active training and am desperate to come up with a solution before my next match, so as embarassing as it is, any tips? My belt is as tight as it can go without making me wince or feel nauseaus when I sit down, its as far above my hip bones as my belly will let it go, (which is shrinking! lol ) I am considering getting my pants modified so that I can have some built in suspenders running underneath my shirt to make sure no one see's my underwear, or anything else that might get me DQ'd for unsportsman like conduct lol Fitting back into pants that I have not been able to wear for over five years, as I have been losing weight with some better choices about what I eat, and how often I move lol but rest assured my pants fit properly, even did the finger in the waistline test ! Just all the extra weight makes them slide down, and I need to get it sorted before I go on a course of fire and have to worry about pulling up my pants while I am supposed to be shooting. Thanks!
  15. Everyone is different but your dominant foot will always give you a better platform to use. It's more instinctive than anything. A test to figure out which your dominant foot is is to stand straight up, shoulders and feet squared up and have someone give you a little shove from behind. The foot you put out to stop yourself is your dominant one. Also if your face touches the ground, you were shoved too hard lol Figuring out your leading or dominant foot is how you figure out your stance/which way you face when snowboarding, skateboarding, longboarding ect. Seems like you have found yours! No such thing as a stupid question, and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone that ridicules you here, I'm newer but have been lurking for a time, and this group is all about positive support and boosting yourself through knowledge and shared experiences.
