I guess i'm just cheap. I use X-treme 147 gr , have been for years, without a problem. Guess i dont see the validity in a bullet that comes in 6 different flavors

After pulling a round, do you resize before loading?
sniper3 replied to G19's topic in General Reloading
I've pulled many bullets and use a single stage rcbs press to resize and pop out the new primer. I would have to say I probly pull the handle alot gentler on the live primer and then discard it. never had a single incident -
Tried it once, didn't seem to do much. Whenever my mags start getting a little "crummy" looking , I hose the inside down with gun scrubber and polish the outside with a buffing wheel and stainless steel polish. In 10 minutes I have shiny brand new looking mags

Extreme has147 RN in stock and there about $10.00 cheaper per 1000 with about $6.00 shipping. Its all I use and there an awesome bullet

I have transgressed against the Gods of Blue again
sniper3 replied to robport's topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
I have been and rcbs fan for many years, and have loaded well over 100k bullets without a single incident. Nothing has worn out and I use only carbide dies. I shoot about 200 rounds a week , so speed is not an issue. when I sit down to reload, I do just that , no fiddling with adjustments , or checking to see if a primer went in or powder charge was correct. I don't understand why anyone would want a press that gives you problems. Sorta like buying a car and breaking down every other time you go to work. Not worth the hassle in my book. -
Update on original post. I did indeed use red locktite after cleaning the threads , and let it sit overnight. Reassemble on Saturday , off to the range on Sunday with a nice and tight comp. Worked flawless. The world may go back to spinning again

Just a quick update. After the range yesterday , I sonic cleaned the comps again, and alot more crud came out , but not down to bare metal yet. A few more times should remove it all. A little steel or brass brush would really help it along if they made one small enough, but still a great solution to a bad problem

Ok , couldn't wait , so I tried it . And it does work and did not hurt the outside finish on the blue or the chrome comps ! . But wait . I did like sauza45 said ...... 50/50 solution ... 3 minutes per cycle .... 3 times. My comps had big "mounds" of buildup in them , so I used a small flat bladed screwdriver in between cycles to loosen the crud up . By the third time I was scraping big chunks off . Its going to take several more times at least , and a lot more scraping to get them totally clean , but its well worth it. sauza45 is now the official comp guru in my book. Thanks for the great tip !!

Not yet. going to the range Sunday morning. when I get home I'll take it all apart for cleaning and stick the barrel and comp in the sonic cleaner. Still a little leary. If the outside finish gets damaged that means I have to send the whole gun out to be refinished. ( I'm pretty anal about the way my guns look and shoot )

Great !! I'll try it when I get home tonite !

sauza45.....I assume you've tried it . Was the outside finish blue, nickel, chrome ? And did you use heat and for how long did you run the sonic cleaner for ??
-
Has anyone ever tried putting the comp in a sonic cleaner. I've got alot of build up on my comps and I'm too afraid to put it in the sonic cleaner in fear of damaging the outside finish. Has anyone experimented with an old comp ??

My main computer is out being repaired and I'm on my backup and cant post pics. The guide rod goes into the comp about an 1/8 of an inch , but I feel uncomfortable leaving it loose. I should have my main computer on Friday so I can post some pics. If all looks ok after the pics , I'll try the Loctite. Theres pictures of the gun on the tanfo forum .

This is for all you tanfo experts. I have a 9mm small frame I purchased used about 5 years ago with a 3 hole comp that I assume is all factory. The comp is part of the barrel which is non removable from the slide. I've put about 5k rounds through it without a single problem. Cleaning the gun this weekend I noticed the comp was off center and found that the comp totally unscrewed from the barrel. It looks like there may have been some type of "sealer" on the the threads that held the comp in rock solid place for many years. My "problem" , if it is one, is should I try and seal it back on, or is it ok to leave it loose and if so will it affect anything. Thanks in advance guys

I use an Ultrasonic and a tumbler for my brass. Heres an interesting fact I found out . I use White Vinegar and a few drops of lemishine ,rinse, dry, then tumble for approx 4 hours and the brass comes out like new. The other day I put 200 rounds in the ultra sonic, ran for 1/2 hour , drained and then did it again with the same batch of brass and it left a greyish residue inside the brass case that wouldn't tumble out. I'm hopeing when is fired it will "burn" out
