  1. Seems to me the only redeeming quality of the 1911 is the trigger. So why hasn't anyone incorporated that style trigger into higher cap, reliable, 9mm and 40 style production pistols? This just seems to be a no-brainer to me. Any ideas/explanations? In my mind, an all steel pistol with that trigger could easily overtake the STI in competitions. Part of me wants to run the 'best' gun but when I see other's near constant problems and the need for expensive gunsmithing, it becomes much less attractive.
  2. Their "Reduced Size Target" vid had me almost crying laughing
  3. what a great video, thanks for posting. It gets me all amped to go do that kind of practice and then I think about how $ in ammo I just saw him go through in 10 minutes of video...
  4. Clown noses... That made me laugh out loud. The reason people are slipping in those shoes is because you need cleats to do as-fast-as-possible direction changes on any natural surface. 3/16" of rubber just can't dig in enough to make a 200lb person stop on a dime. That requirement is vastly different from what is good for the constant forward motion of hiking a 14er.
  5. There is nothing special about the Salomon shoes that everyone seems to wear. Anyone with an athletic background can look at the surface of the range and pick something that will work great. Have you ever seen a baseball player or any professional athlete wearing trail running shoes? The amount of movement we do in USPSA is negligible compared to other sports. What works in those sports on similar surfaces will obviously work well in USPSA.
  6. My Arredondo's work perfectly and I get 20 rounds of .40 with no break-in period. They also come off very easily. $35 each and I see no reason to try aluminum that will get scratched up. But that's just me.
  7. sheepdog566- if the mag release I just bought turns out to be too small for me, would you sell me your glockstore mag release?
  8. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Looks like I'm going to be getting a book. Steve Anderson's seems to be the consensus.
  9. Actually glockstore has 2 styles of extended mag releases with the screwed-on tabs, both for the gen4. There are several other good ones too. Just search the forums.
  10. I shoot a gen4 g35 in limited and the only part that I wish I had as many options on is the magwell. I use a large backstrap and that pretty much gave me one option: Dawson Precision. I'm very happy with that magwell but maybe I would have been happier with a heavier one? I don't know. The advantages of the ICE insert I think are minimal when your magazine bodies are already made of plastic. Also, I prefer the grippyness of the gen4 grip to the gen3, but now that I have added grip tape it doesn't matter.
  11. I ended up buying the I love My Glock extended mag release made for gen4. It is polished aluminum and matches my DP magwell. I like that it has a hump that is oriented more towards the backstrap. It is taller than the factory extended. The best part is that is was about $23.00 including two day shipping through Amazon Prime! I figure if I don't like it I'm not out much $, but I'm thinking this will work well for me.
  12. Okay, I do know what dry firing a gun is. But I'm not sure how to maximize dry fire practicing. Right now I just practice my draw and changing through all the mags on my belt, lining up my sights after the draw and each mag change on some spot on the wall. Also, I'm shooting a glock so pulling the trigger can only be done one time in this routine. This will certainly help me speed up my mag changes and time to my first shot, but for some reason I feel like I'm missing out on something.
  13. I wish I had thought about the 'reaching the mag release' thing before I committed to the LG backdtrap by buying the accordingly sized DP magwell .
  14. I usually do better on the non-classifier COFs. I think it may be that the regular COF are designed to be fun and interesting. I think maybe the classifiers are meant to test sheer skill and fundamentals, not strategy and/or athleticism. And for me at least, my weaknesses in skill and fundamentals really show up on the classifiers. It's one thing to beat a M or GM on a regular COF but you are a badass if you do that in a classifier. I don't beat them in either [yet].
  15. Wow, all these customized G24's are making me wish I hadn't gone the g35 route recently. I guess I really wanted a gen4 though. A cheap way for me to pretty up my glock is to take it to (local for me) Rock Your Glock and they will hard chrome my slide for $80, 2 weeks turnaround time. They are online at rockyourglock.com.
  16. I'm going to clean that lube out right now!
  17. Yes, the I got the Competition Perfect Impact sights. I need to shoot it at different distances to see if it's something I can get used to before I try to get a taller front sight. But it's nice to know that is an option. I'm looking for the guarantee on the Dawson website.
  18. Well, I just got back from shooting the new sights. Yes, distant targets will be MUCH easier to hit. It was very easy to pick up the sights in the intense sunlight of 10k elevation in the mountains. My initial reservations now seem to be unfounded. Hopefully they will work as well indoors. I do wish they were adjustable though. I was shooting about 2-3" high at 10 yards. I'm used to putting the dot directly over the POA, I'll need to get used to having the spot I want to hit just above the front sight dot. It was also my first time out with the dawson magwell and grip tape. Those two things together allow me to lock on to the pistol in a way I've never experienced! I am really loving this gun after spending a year shooting Limited with a Taurus PT101, with crappy sights, slippery grip, no magwell and no mag extrensions.
  19. I have a G35 gen4 that I bought recently and I have been dumping the new parts on it. I've only shot one match with it and it still had the factory sights on it. I had no trouble with accuracy getting on target. But, following all the recommendations I've read, I bought new sights for it, DP serrated rear/FO front, and just installed them. My first impression is "This is supposed to be better?" I'm about to take it to the range right now and see what I think. Kinda nervous about the fact that I've used red Loctite per DP's recommendation. What's your reasoning for going with competition sights over those oh-so-easy-to-see-and-line-up factory sights?
  20. I think all generations of the glock 34 and 35 have extended mag releases. If that isn't extended enough for you then you need to look to the aftermarket.
  21. I plan on getting an extended one from Glockstore.com. They have 2 different styles for the gen4. both have the screwed-on aluminum plate that extends back. I think they drill and tap a factory extended mag release. I want mine to be as big and as far back as possible. My shooting grip doesn't interfere and even though I have big hands, it's a real stretch for me to press the release on my g35 gen4 without changing my grip.
  22. I shot it last Sunday and my hit factor was averaging at least 2 whole points higher than normal. I'm a D and I came in 2nd to a GM on my first COF. Maybe the stars aligned, I don't know. I'm thinking I'm going to like this G35.
  23. It shouldn't be any harder to make than a magwell. I mean, they just have to match the dimensions of a product that already exists- the factory backstrap. And yes, instead of it having to twist to click in at the bottom, it could tenon into a matching magwell. The pin would hold the top portion in place. Someone could at least make weights that fit in the voids of the large backstrap. But still, I think my original idea is winner. Glockworx, if your reading this you better send me something free if you make it!
  24. We're all wanting to add weight. Wouldn't this be a great product? imagine 30 lpi checkering in a large beavertail backstrap. Machinists, get to work!
