  1. I think if I was wanting a pistol for SS, there would be a lot of other options I'd look at along with RIA. But since I shoot limited, there are literally no other options in the same price range as the RIA 51738 and 51782. Because of that, I won't complain about replacing springs if I do get my hands on one. At the price point, I'd expect to be knocking down burrs and whatnot. I'll just be stoked to have a doublestack 2011 for under $1K.
  2. I'm gonna have to try both eyes open. When someone says they do it with all 3 platforms, all three have optic sights, right?
  3. Nobody shoots as much as competitive shooters. I laugh when I read gun classifieds on Facebook, and people talk like a gun with 1k rounds through it ought to be half price, like half it's working life is gone.
  4. It's true that mine might fail eventually. If it does, I think I'll still be ahead because the mount it came with is very solid and well machined. I think a similar mount by itself would cost 2x what I paid for everything. So, I was not risking anything if you look at it that way. Gdboytyler- I can't help but wonder if your shotgun killed it, and that it might still be working if it was left on your AR. An AR with a compensator/brake puts very little stress on optics, in my noob opinion. I was thinking about this on the way home... we often think China-made means really crappy, but so much of what we buy at Walmart or wherever is Chinese made and we don't notice it, and generally we are happy with the quality of what we bought. Iphones are made there and a whole lot of other really nice items. I've certainly bought some crap that was American made. My AR wouldn't cycle when I first built it. The problem was with my US made BCG, not with any of the Chinese parts I put in it. Fortunately DS Arms made it right and let me upgrade to a NiB BCG for $15.
  5. I bought it from Aliexpress.com If you search "Aimpoint M2" a bunch of results will come up, all pretty much identical. It takes a while to arrive and several items I ordered from aliexpress gave me non-working tracking numbers, but they still arrive in 2-4 weeks. I also bought my 15" freefloat rail from them for $40 and rubbery picatinny rail covers which were $8 for 4 covers. That's cheap! The compensator was from ebay seller "tacticalgears" and the item was listed as " .223/556 TPI Competition Compact Stainless Muzzle Brake with free crush washer" . About $29 shipped. The stainless brake matched up perfect with my $100 18" mid length gas, spiral fluted stainless barrel I bought from classicfirearms.com. Also, I should say that I am impressed with the trigger from my Anderson Arms LPK which came with a lightened hammer and stainless trigger for $50. It's no 2lb trigger but I'd guess it at under 5lbs, with zero grit and easy to shoot well.
  6. So I realized this weekend I've never really liked my Glock, ever. It's ugly and it's too light, and adding frame weights will make it uglier and will require a new holster. I was waiting to bond with it, but it's just not happening. I shoot Limited and plan on continuing with that. I'm looking at the two doublestack .40 RIA offerings, the TAC and the PRO Match. The Pro Match is $250 more that the tac version and is supposed to be tuned by a gunsmith, but they both have bull barrels, are about the same weight with full dust covers, and both have fiber optic sights and a magwell. Is it worth the $250 more for the tuning? It seems like my own eventual fine tuning will be re-doing the gains made by buying the PRO Match. But I don't really know. Also, does anyone have an idea of how long it would take to get one of these if I ordered on from my local FFL? I'd have to sell my current gear first, and I don't want to miss out on the shooting season because I prepaid for a pistol that I couldn't get till Fall. They seem to be sold out everywhere, especially the PRO Match. Thanks!
  7. I just got back from the range, and I thought someone out there would enjoy this. I was testing a new bullet and powder combo for function, and I was really happy with the results. I've never shot an AR before I built this ultra-budget one. I didn't think you could do this at 75 yards with a 1x red dot with a 4moa dot. The targets are 6" wide. The only problem I have with the aimpoint clone is that the battery life is short. But it came with the mount, shipped, for $30, so I can afford to buy batteries. The rifle is an experiment in "how cheaply can you build a 3gun rifle?". It runs perfect with recoil about that of my 10/22, with an 18" barrel and a $30 compensator. I have about $600 bucks in it. Next I need to build a shotgun, and I'll be ready to try my first 3gun match.
  8. I have two AU bases paired with wolff +10% springs. Works fine.
  9. My favorite comment on the youtube video was something like "I guess that's a no-shoot?".
  10. I saw this elsewhere and didn't see any discussion on BE. Search "Unplanned Targets" on youtube. In the video, a guy shoots half a COF with a person still downrange brassing. Scary to watch! I thought this ought to be discussed here. Please delete if someone else has posted about it who knows how to include Youtube links...
  11. But really not competitive in any division. But if you already have it, shoot it.
  12. Just to make this even more confusing, If I were starting over with a glock, I'd buy a $350 police trade in G22, and put the put the Taylor Freelance barrel shroud on it with a new barrel that's ready for lead bullets. Then you'd be at $500, which is still cheaper than you're likely to find a G35. All the rest of the parts you're going to replace anyway.
  13. If you are a B in production shooting a metal framed gun, then I personally wouldn't want to start shooting Limited with a Glock. I'd get a CZ Tactical Sport. You'd probably only spend a couple hundred more getting the TS ready.
  14. Don't have anyone build it for you. You can do it yourself. If it's for Limited: a 3.5 lb connector , +5 base pads and a magwell will get you shooting. Then sights. Just get used to it and decide if you like it before dumping any more money into it. I would shoot a match with it bone stock just to get an idea of what a glock is all about.
  15. Well, CDNN deserves some praise. If I send them back, they will exchange them for me. No restocking fee, and it sounds like they will pay for the shipping for the new mags. I'll have to use them again in the future.
  16. Okay. I was hoping they just had different followers. I guess I have to pay 15% restocking fee, return shipping and shipping on the new ones. What a waste!
  17. I shoot limited with a g35 and I just received the three mags I ordered from CDNN Sports. I can't believe it, I ordered 10 round mags. Since I'm only really using the mag body, will it work the same? I don't want to scratch them trying to figure it out myself and end up not being able to return them.
  18. DS arms took care of me on an exchange of the BCG. I asked to upgrade mine to the Nickel Boron BCG and they only charged me $15 for the upgrade. They even sent the new BCG without having received my exchange yet. The new BCG solved all the problems! The rifle runs like a top. 100 rounds through it this evening and not a single hiccup. Brass was ejecting 10' away. I didn't replace the gas block. So, the only problem I had with my ultra cheap build was a bad BCG. I think after the upgrade I still have under 600 in the rifle. After about 1000 rounds I'll post a review, and between now and then I'll take the red dot off and scope it so I can report on the accuracy.
  19. reptoid- Agreed. When the new bcg and gas block comes in, I'm going to quit trying to figure this out on my own if there are still problems. dauntedfuture- While I understand the buy once cry once thing, sometimes there are work-arounds. A new bcg is on it's way, but I'm not throwing out the barrel unless I have a really good reason to. If it turns out the $100 barrel is just fine, then I think a lot of people would be interested to know that.
  20. I know you aren't supposed to ease the charging handle forward- I'm just pointing out that there is so much friction between the bolt and carrier that the buffer spring can't close the bolt on it's own. I honestly don't know what a rifle barrel extension is. Is the m4 ramp cut upper what I've always seen referred to as m4 feed ramps? I'll look into it.
  21. I am using a set screw gas block, inside diameter was exactly .750. Outside diameter of the barrel is .750, both measured with calipers. I'll have to take the roll pin out of the gas tube to see if that is a tight fit. I think it is not as there is plenty of carbon on the tube and I recall when assembled it, there seemed to be more play than I expected. The tube fits tight in the gas key. I went to the range today with about 20 minutes to kill. I shot 50-60 rounds. It cycled properly for about 15 rounds. I think this is from me getting the GB a little more centered. Using two brand new Magpul mags, I got about 10 jams where the bolt got over the top of the round and would jam into the side of the case with the round stuck diagonally pointing up. Now I'm just frustrated. I'm sending the BCG back because it won't go all the way into battery without help from forward assist if I ease the charging handle forward. That friction must be hurting me. Fortunately DS Arms said they'd do an exchange with me. The GB is an ugly thing, the only part I bought that was noticeably cheaply machined. I'll replace that after the BCG with an inexpensive but reliable YHM low pro GB. Today there was one saving grace. At 50 yards, all 50-60 rounds went into a 1.5" group using my $30 aimpoint clone with a 4moa dot. And with my $30 compensator, the sight picture barely moves at all. Also, these rounds were all shot in a few minutes with the POI not really changing, so I think my barrel handles getting hot just fine. Hey, I need something to be optimistic about at this point!
  22. I have not checked headspace; I don't have a gauge. The brass looks normal to me, the guy with his first AR who doesn't know what to look for. The chamber being out of spec is certainly a possibility. It looks like the gas port in the barrel is correct. A 5/64" ( .078") drill bit fit in with a little extra room, so I can rule that out. The carbon circle around the gas port wasn't perfectly centered, but the gas port was in the circle. I think I have it dead-center now and I'll see if maybe that will make a difference. If not, then I think I may have a chamber issue.
  23. It's mid length, 18". Made by Bear Creek Arsenal. I don't expect anyone to have specs on that brand, it's just something I got such a great deal on that I thought it would be worth trying.
  24. Today I shot my rifle with parts from other working rifles, supplied by two friends. With the BCG swapped out, it short stroked every time still. With the spring and buffer swapped out, it short stroked every time. So, I think I'm back to the original assumption: not enough gas. The GB is properly aligned, so I need to check my gas hole size. Can anyone tell me the proper gas hole diameter for an 18" mid length gas barrel?
