  1. I just finished some dryfire practice and it does exactly what I wanted: I can easily drop a mag without breaking my grip, and it doesn't come close to my grip to where accidentally dropping a mag is a concern. It holsters fine. The attachment is solid.
  2. I was about to buy the Glockstore extended mag release. I've wanted one for a while and my G35 Limited gun really needed something bigger than the stock extended release. I was about to start entering credit card info when it hit me, that tiny speck of aluminum and two screws was going to cost me $42.50. Hell no! My first try was to bend a penny in half, cut it to shape, and drill it for screws. This would have allowed it to step up in thickness where you need it, and allow it to be thin where it extends over the grip frame. But, a penny is too thin. A nickel would have worked better, but I didn't think it would bent as nicely in the vise as a penny. Then I looked in a junk drawer and, Gosh, that half of a brass snap sure looks a lot like an SJC big button! By brass snap I mean like snaps for a western shirt, but heavy duty and bought in the craft section of walmart. I drilled a hole in the center, stole a screw from one of my kid's plastic toys, drilled the mag release, and installed it. Check out the result- The black and brass color goes quite well with the zev magwell.
  3. Great info here guys. Sounds like there is nothing to be concerned about, and the arched mainspring housing is a great idea.
  4. Lol. Well, shooting is my #1 hobby and I probably spend way too much time reading about it. But with limited time and funds, and priorities that place the wife and kids at the top, being gone most of every Saturday to do my own thing just isn't an option for me personally.
  5. I shoot a match once a month on average. I livefire practice maybe 100 rounds a month, and the night before a match I belt up and practice draw and reloads. I should have made B class with my last classifier. I know shooting more often and having purposeful livefire sessions would be incredibly helpful. It's weird to shoot a match where you are about to start your first stage and the last time you pulled the trigger was up to a month ago and you have lost the muscle memory for the feeling of recoil. There was one single time where I went and did livefire the evening before a match, and during that match it was great to step up to the line and when the RO asked "Shooter Ready?" I felt like I was actually truly READY.
  6. I was thinking of getting a 9mm 1911 and shooting minor. The local matches here would seem to favor minor in SS (the advantages of 10 rounds vs 8), and I have a gallon of 9mm brass I've picked up and nothing to load it for. Not too many people here shoot SS, so if I shot the 9mm I could compare scores with the production shooters. Plus, it might be a soft enough shooter that my wife might enjoy it.
  7. Anyone shoot both? I just recently got bit with the 1911 bug and I feel like the stage planning and reloads of single stack would make me a better shooter. But, it seems like the different grip angle would make it difficult to go back and forth between Limited with my Glock and single stack with a 1911. Anyone have experience with this?
  8. I didn't get to shoot the RM300 this year, but I just looked at the match results out of curiosity. Dude, you won stage 5 beating 5 GM's! You won't be sitting at A much longer.
  9. Cslafrain- I am using the factory barrel. I was expecting leading. I'm using a single stage (gasp) press and lee dies. I've heard that the Lee factory crimp die does more than just crimp and that some people don't recommend it. I'm not sure what crimp die I should replace it with. As far as the BBI bullets themselves- I think they are just fine and they are accurate out of my glock. The price is great too. Shipping was quick. What more could I want? If I had an aftermarket barrel, I wouldn't prefer the Berry's anymore. As it is, the leading cocnerns me because I don't know how much lead is enough to be concerned about. I've only shot about 150 rounds max before cleaning the barrel, but I have my first all-day level II match coming up, and it will be over 300 rounds. I guess I'll be scrubbing the barrel at lunchtime. I'd be glad to send pics of the ammo, if you have some recommendations. Thanks for the offer! Just pm me an email address, since I can't post pics on this forum unless I start the topic.
  10. I've recently started shooting BBI out of my G35 gen 4, mainly to save money. I'm using 4.3 gr of titegroup with the 180's and I do get leading. I clean it after every match and I figure 150 rounds won't be enough to blow it up. Honestly, if I could find better deals on Berry's, I would have stuck with them. 9x45, I also thought that the longer barrel would be more accurate, kinda like a revolver with a 2" barrel and a scope will be less accurate than a 8" revolver with a scope. I've been wondering why I never see Limited shooters using a threaded barrel with a thread protector. If nothing else, it's adding weight up front. If I were to switch to a cooler powder to continue shooting BBI, what are some recommendations?
  11. I thought I'd make this into it's own thread so people could find the info easier. I just found that you can fit backstraps into the Zev heavy brass magwell for Gen 4 glocks. On my gen 4 g35, I just installed the above magwell, and noticed there was a small space between the magwell and the back of the grip. About 1/16". So, I took the L beavertail backstrap that I need (XL hands), and got out the dremel tool. Using a coarse sandpaper wheel, I ground out the bottom inside of the backstrap till it was only as thick as the outer layer of plastic. I then trimmed it in length so it would tuck into the magwell space only about 1/8"-3/16" deep. Done. Full length backstrap with a Zev heavy magwell. I hope that helps some large-handed guys out there!
  12. Don't cut the backstrap! You can get around it... I just installed a zev brass magwell on my gen 4 g35 and I noticed that there was about 1/16" of space between the magwell and the grip in the back. I took my large backstrap and used a dremel with a gritty sandpaper wheel and I ground off the inside bottom of the backstrap till it was 1/16" thick, and it slid right into that space for a nice tight fit. I am so relieved- I have XL hands and it was going to take a lot of getting used to not having a backstrap- the trigger was waaay too close. And cutting the backstrap in the middle looks crazy IMHO.
  13. I already had to replace all my mags once because I thought an extended aluminum mag release would be a good idea. I really don't want to replace them again. I wonder why it wouldn't deform the mags in a gen3?
  14. I want two as well. It's hard to imagine that TF would make a mag extension that wouldn't be legal in Limited division. Please report back if there is a reason we can't use these!
  15. I just saw these for sale on Rockyourglock.com. They are made of brass and weigh 5 oz each! I didn't know these exist- never heard of them here and I've never seen them on anyone's belt at a match. At $45 each, they aren't too pricy. I find myself wanting to add weight in the grip and magwell area to my g35 for better balance/recoil reduction. Is there a reason they aren't popular?
  16. I don't think anyone but Dawson makes one for the lg backstrap. And it's the aluminum one I bought for that very reason. When I get my heavier magwell I'm going to try cutting the backstrap so I can still use it or just get used to using no backstrap.
  17. You are really, really gonna need to add weight for fast shooting. Get the heaviest magwell you can. I bought the DP Ice magwell and really wish I hadn't. SJC is the heaviest, ZEV brass with the heavy insert is the second heaviest. If you are on a budget, Arredondo and Arms Unlimited base pads work as well as any others and they are inexpensive. OC Custom triggers has the least expensive trigger. I got mine in the mail today and can't comment on it yet, but people who have them like them. My personal feeling is that if I could spend 200 on a glock trigger, I wouldn't be shooting a glock in the first place.
  18. Well, I bought an OC Custom trigger on an impulse last night. It was $65 including shipping. I'm hoping they didn't just polish the trigger bar but modded it too. It included the adjustable trigger housing that I mentioned in the OP. As long as I don't adjust everything to the point that the safeties aren't working, it ought to work okay. Since I've never shot an aftermarket Glock trigger, at least I won't know what I'm missing if the trigger sucks.
  19. I am shooting a gen 4 G35 in Limited. Right now I have replaced the connector with a Ghost ultimate, and I've replaced the springs. I'd like a better trigger- mainly less take-up and a shorter reset. My question is... if I were to buy and install an adjustable trigger housing for $20, and polish all the parts like we see in the youtube videos, will I end up with an approximation of a decent aftermarket trigger? It seems to me that a lot of the aftermarket competition triggers consist mainly of new springs, connector, and an adjustable housing, with everything polished. I have most of that already. I can buy a titanium striker separately later. I can't justify spending $180 on a trigger if I could get a satisfactory one by spending $20. Thoughts anyone?
  20. I feel ya, man. I used to bomb every single classifier, but do better than my C class in the rest of the match. Only in the last two matches have I turned that around. Two things I think I may be doing different is 1) making an extra effort to see my sights. In a normal COF I tend to give more weight to speed than accuracy. This has tended to burn me in classifiers. 2) I have done more dry fire and mag change practice at home, and I download my mags to make them seat easily for classifiers. Fumbled mag changes and failure to fully seat my mags has messed a bunch of my old classifiers. For what it might be worth...
  21. I also use a Lee fcd and I also get inconsistent larger groups than I think I ought to be getting. Question- I notice lots of die sets don't even include the crimp die. I've always assumed I had to crimp, but is that really true? If it is essential, what crimp die should I try out instead of the Lee? MarkCO- the above advice you gave is great. I'm going to try it.
  22. +1 on taking a class from CHA-LEE. I intend to take a class from him myself this summer.
  23. I just talked online to someone at RIA, through their live chat on their website. I was asking about future availability of the Pro Match Ultra HC .40 51738. He looked it up and said the last batch was sent out in December of 2014. It doesn't sound like they are trying too hard to keep up with demand for that model. Which sucks, because it's golden for Limited.
  24. I just talked to a person at Rock island about availability. He said that the last batch of the 51738 Pro Match Ultra HC .40 were sent out December of last year. That doesn't sound good as far as future availability- they don't seem to be prioritizing that model.
