  1. What bullet too? I've had some Moly Coated Bullets of questionable quality years ago that did something similar. You can usually see bits of powder if that's it and a quick blow into the holes usually clear it. If it's bullet and/or powder leaving a soot like caking it will take a brush to clean it out. I've had good luck with Poly Coated Bullets from ACME, Bayou, Precision, BBI, Blue Bullets & MBC with Clays/ClayDot & Titegroup in 38 Short Colts. Titegroup can give you problems if you go too light on the pressures, and that is easier to do in a 38 Special case for sure. Clays/ClayDot seem to have a lower threshold though. Does it do it with Plated or Jacketed too?
  2. If you don't see any powder granules you might try a Taper Crimp Die. Sometimes a Roll Crimp can bulge the case enough to hang up. Especially if you are using brass that has different OAL's. Taper Crimp is more forgiving on that. IF that turns out to be the case, then you may need less Roll Crimping.
  3. Funny I never feel frantic doing a Revolver Reload. If I'm under 2 seconds it feels smooth as butter, I never get there being jerky, If I'm over 2 seconds again it just feels smooth but usually with a moon that didn't seat right or hung up coming out, etc... The biggest waste of time in my Revolver Reloads are hesitation. As in I hesitate because I'm not sure of the shot, bad footing etc...OR hesitating getting the reloads shot off due to a bad sight picture, difficult target, etc... Practice is the key though. Once the buzzer goes off you can only have your best runs while in sub-conscious mode. You will observe what you're doing without actually having to think about it. In all seriousness find a good Revolver Instructor and take his class. May save you years of frustration.
  4. Oh man, but Comp's look "so cool"!
  5. Especially not worth the extra effort to clean the comp. And did you notice any difference in accuracy? Now if you had a 115 to 125 grain bullet at around 1100 f/s, it might work better. Then again what would it do to accuracy? And to really make a comp work on a Semi-Auto you needed lots of slow burning powder, how would that work for cleanliness in the cylinders? Many such as Rich Wolfe used a Comp, at one time at least, in Open ICORE. But I can't remember if Jerry did?
  6. Some even went so far as to square, then checker, the trigger guards of 1911's. Ever had any flashing on the finger from the B/C gap?
  7. That finger forward grip used to be real popular, I used it until the '90's. But on Semi-Auto's. Once I started doing serious Revolver Competition I quit as I didn't want to have multiple grip types. Back then we always checkered the front of the trigger guard, do you do that also. If not you might give it a try. My fingers just aren't long enough to do it on my Revolvers. I've tried though! Though muzzle rise in itself doesn't bother me much, it's the jerking I do on the trigger that seems to be more problematic!
  8. I noticed in FS the other day the other day, I'm like 2 issues back still!, that you were shooting with LH index on trigger guard? Rich Wolfe also had a pix like that. Is that your regular grip? Or just what the pix caught at the moment?
  9. I hear your pain. I whittled mine down to try to get the grip I wanted. Finally switched back to regular Hogue Rubber Grips. Note if you do whittle them down just apply some oil afterwards and they regain their original look. Also like that both my Open & Limited 627's have the same grip. And those Big Butt's are expenisve! I want to use them, but my times are just a shade better without them. One of the issues I've found is on the draw. When I get a funky grip with regular hogue's I can still shoot & then adjust my grip. Seems like with the Big Butt, even modified, the funky grip is worse? Kind of when it works it's good, when it don't it's a train wreck vs when it works it's good, when it don't it's ok? But(t?) maybe I'll go try it again? Yea, that's the ticket, I'll try it again! Anyways it is another incentive to practice.
  10. It's not like the old day when all of us were competing heads up, no divisions! Yep I can't see how anyone can't find a Division to fit into. But it still takes that one little thing called practice to do well. But don't rag too hard on Revolver, it's my favorite right now! Not quite as eccentric as the pre-8 shot minor days, but still fun. Come give it a try, who knows where that could go!
  11. The biggest FIX any of us needs is probably Practice!
  12. I get your sarcasm and don't disagree! But then I enjoyed it waaaaaay back when it was all heads up!
  13. Or allow Optics on Limited/L10 guns?
  14. Maybe go the route of giving it a weight limit, ban porting/compensators and then just fit into the box. I'd even nix the DA/Safe Action requirement like IDPA (ghast?!).
  15. I'm definitely not at your level, have to really work hard to get under 2 sec for a reload, but my limited testing has shown no difference either. If anything the 38 short colts with tight moon clips are a bit more consistent. I also seem to have less issues with a moon clip flipping back up and sitting on the cylinder with the 38's. Seems to me the physics aspects would have no bearing and the technical aspects are equal, bad or malformed equipment are always an issue. The biggest factor is the consistency or ease of use by the operator. The human element is the factor that can't be easily controlled.
  16. I used Starline 357 mag cases, 124 JHP MG (.355's) 17.? gr 2400 for 1450 f/s in HearthCo moon clips. so they went in the same as my match loads.
  17. Ran a COF at a local USPSA Match couple of years ago with my 627, Full Power Reloads 125 JHP's @ 1450 f/s, from an IWB holster. Just to check out the EDC gear. Warned the RO beforehand, as I usually shoot 160's @ 820 f/s. Still scared the bejesus out of him. Worked good, times were good, reloads went great just more thumpin' to the hand. I'm sure it cost me a few seconds more, but not a lot. It was fun, though it would get expensive!
  18. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it, the virus doesn't do well in sunlight or heat add in wind and unless someone sneezes in your face it would seem the risk is very low. But heat exhaustion and heat stroke will go up wearing a mask in hot and/or humid weather. There are a lot of government fools making some serious decisions that can end up being just as deadly as the virus.
  19. You can purchase Soft Ball loads, https://www.ammunitiontogo.com/product_info.php/pName/50rds-45-acp-federal-gold-medal-185gr-fmj-swc-ammo, 185 jswc @ 770 f/s (730 f/s actual usually) = 142 (135)PF. Note I like that bullet for my 45 acp Revolver I found it loaded as fast as RN. Won a case of Hornady's in that shape and tried them in the ACP. Worked great, then they stopped making them! So yes, they have several options. My guess is it is more likely that you would see competitors using factory ammo with say a M28 than with a 45 acp Revolver. So in that case how about "adjusting" for the lack of Jet Comp type Speed Loaders? I understand your thoughts, personally I don't think the solution is fudging with the scoring system.
  20. And even with 38 short colt most of us are using the 9mm powder drop tube, due to the case height issue, with no problems.
  21. The problem is the Time Based Scoring System. How would you factor in a difference? Give a 10% penalty/bonus? USPSA/IPSC can do it due to the Hit Factor Scoring System. I'm using my 625 with 175 SWC Acme Bullets at a bit over 700 f/s for a 123 +/- PF. These bullets are coated and have a larger nose with a bit smaller shoulder ledge. Haven't seen any fumbles on reloads either. Well at least that I can't say were operator induced! Have seen 185 RN bullets and at 700 f/s = 129 PF, about where my 38 short colts are too. So I'd not be in favor either.
  22. Is there actually any difference between the Super 1050 vs the 550 Powder Measure? I just noticed the different part numbers. I have both and have used the 550 Measure on my Super 1050 with no issues. A cursory look doesn't show any differences other than the Die it sits on.
  23. Use everything 9mm if you have a 929 irrespective of bullet diameters. .355 through .358 can be adjusted for. .358 bullets will require a bit more flare of the case mouth and it may need a bit less Taper Crimp. Other than that use the 9mm stuff. To add to your confusion you can use 38 short colts in the 929 even. With or without the 38 short colt sizing die. I think it was Ty Hamby who posted a very long thread on the 929 and using 38 short colt using 38 starline brass sized 627 moon clips. Seems it worked great. But I seem to remember that the resizing issue "might" be a problem with re-using in a 627. To this end I tried a handful of 38 short colts sized in a 9mm die and shot them through my 627. Remember the brass had NOT been shot in a 9mm chamber, but the 9mm sizing die did size the case down. I then reloaded them and shot them in my 627 with no issues. I was wondering if firing in a 929 9mm cylinder would change that results though.
  24. Always with the Cool Guns, right!
  25. Looks like a plan. Think I'll stick with SC for my Revo 38's, not much choice anyway LOL! No plans on going to a 929. Probably would try the new Ruger 8 shot first! In 9mm for semi-auto's I'm not sure about it. Crimped primer brass is still a PITA for me on the 1050. But I figure shoot it & leave it lay, mostly, at matches. Same for all my SA's.
