  1. Here is mine…. after waiting for a year, finally got to use it in a match last week. Only mods are new grips and FO front sight. Will shoot it like this for a while before changing anything major.

    SP-01 Tactical questions

I shot a SP01 Tactical for several years. It was Ok from the factory, but after some custom smithing from CZC it was a really good shooter. If I recall, they recut the sear and hammer, polished everything, went to lighter recoil and mainsprings, installed extended firing pin and replaced the firing pin spring. Depending on the reliability of your new pistol, it may also be necessary to tune a few things. More info here: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=22862.0 For sights, I'm not sure which height FO will replace the stock Tritium sights, but I do know that CZC measures their sights from top to bottom uninstalled. For mine, the competition rear provided the best target acquisition when used with a FO front sight.
  3. +1 on Black Hill reman. I have been shooting 69gr match hp's in my 1-8 twist barrel and they are very consistent and accurate. I've been please with all the Black Hills reman I've used.
  4. +1 The DA/SA Shadows can be made excellent, especially with a short reset trigger, but you would still have to adjust to a DA first shot to remain in SSP. The SA pull on my DA/SA Shadow is verrrryyy close to my CZ with SAO in terms of reset and weight. A few years ago I switched from a stock Glock 22 to a SP01 Shadow with SRT. In my experience, the CZ was a step up in accuracy and has less muzzle flip than polymer guns. Regarding reliability, I would still give the nod to Glock for reliability if you totally abstain from maintenance and cleaning. For a game pistol, I've had no complaints about CZ reliability during matches.
  5. A few years ago I had a similar conundrum, 1911 or plastic for carry. I can't comment on the retail price of smaller 1911's, but I have owned and carried 1911's in 5" government and 4" commander size as well as Glock 22 and 27. My solution was a bit off topic from your query: Ultimately, I opted for a CZ 75 compact that offered some of the features I like about 1911's (steel frame, tunable trigger, great accuracy) but in a smaller, lighter package with excellent capacity and a considerably lower price tag. Get what you shoot best.
  6. I believe that this particular Para was made in Canada.
  7. OK.... here's my experience: I bought a P12-45 LDA when they first came out. It went back to Para for warranty service twice in the first month of owning it. It never reliably fed any single type of factory ammo. Even thought the LDA was relatively smooth in DA, it still had a ton of creep. The only advantage I would note is *possibly* being able to carry with the hammer down. A hammer-down jam-o-matic didn't make the cut for me. I sold it for a loss. Caveat: this was at least 10-12 years ago, and I've heard that Para is producing at a higher standard than they did when I had this LDA. YMMV
  8. I have been really happy with the American Defense QD mount. double levers, has always had great RTZ.
  9. "Bladetech holster & CR Speed mag pouches here. Honestly, the only reason I chose these was because these brands were all I knew about at the time :)" +1 Still happy with them!
  10. I have an SP01 Shadow from the Custom Shop. After shooting it for 2 years, I sent it back for the short reset rigger and competition hammer, so now it is essentially a SP01 Shadow Custom, minus the adjustable rear sight. The SRT work makes it exceptional and is totally worth the expense. It is USPSA production legal, shoots steel quite well, and can be loaded to max capacity for 3-gun. My only 2 cents is to get exactly what you like. If you shoot enough (and you enjoy shooting your CZ, you will shoot more), the cost of the pistol will be relatively small compared to ammo + match fees + gas + mags and accessories, etc. over the years you own the pistol. I have about $1100-1200 into this shadow, but easily spend $1k per year on ammo. That let's me justify nicer purchases up front.
  11. The best $ I ever put into an AR is the trigger and the optic. I've used Timney and CMC triggers and like both, although I seem to prefer the CMC. I have a Burris MTAC 1-4 that is really easy to use, came with PEPR mount and provides really quick target acquisition. My factory barrel shoots MOA, so I'm sticking with it until I have reason to change.
  12. Thanks BB Jones & Dan, I ordered some shim washers and hopefully these will help. The crush washer that came with the comp was wayyyyy to tight to time, so I used one from my parts bin that was a bit thinner. Hopefully the shim washers will be a good solution. With any luck, I will get a chance to test these out sometime this week and report back. Cheers, JD

    CZ75 Shadow SAO

+1 on the SA/DA version with short reset trigger job. My SP01 Shadow with the srt is really awesome. BigDave is correct that many divisions require lowering the hammer at start. This can be done safely with practice. Some ROs are surprised to see this, so I often advise this is what I'm doing if I don't know the RO or am at a new match.
  14. The FFP reticles really seem to be my preference on high magnification only. I use one on my 3.5-21 for long range steel but use all SFP on optics for closer-in shooting.
  15. Hi all, I've researched a few threads (AR15.com, 65Grendel.com, here) about a change in POI with a new comp/brake, and it seems like this is not unheard-of. However, I recently experienced a pretty big shift when adding a new comp to my rifle. Upper is an AA 6.5 Grendel, 24" barrel. Lower is a Spikes with Timney trigger. POI shifted 5-6 MOA to the left and the groups opened up from .75 MOA to 1.5. Yes, the comp is installed correctly with crush washer, timed according to mfg.'s instructions. There is no evidence that the bullet is contacting the device. I tested this shooting prone off a bipod. I shot the same way the week before with the standard flash hider and got .75 MOA. Scope mount and rings are correctly torqued. Shooting same 123gr Hornady SST factory ammo. I've previously changed muzzle devices on several rifles and seen the POI shift a little bit, but not this severe, and the accuracy never degraded like this on any of my other rifles. Originally I wanted a comp to reduce some muzzle rise so I could keep my eyes on the target, but it looks like this is not a good fit for this rifle. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Other suggestions? Thanks for the advice.
  16. The perfect number of rifles to own? N+1 of course!
  17. The standard CZ custom magwell for 75's fits quite nicely. You will need to upgrade to the Aluminum base pads from CZ Custom for these to seat well. The medium length aluminum grips fit nicely, otherwise, you may have to shorten the standard length AL grips. http://imageshack.com/a/img43/5009/wp0c.jpg
  18. Yes, depends on rear. Some good info here:http://czcustom.com/cz-factory-sights.aspx
  19. The DW has a checkered front strap and fiber optic sight. I looked at both and liked the fit and finish of the DW better. Both companies have excellent service and support.
  20. 9mm ammo does not feed well in reverse. Although I haven't tried this with other calibers, I suspect the results will be the same During today's match, my trusty CZ jammed. I did the standard tap/rack drill, but the slide wouldn't go into battery. When I looked into the breech, I thought "this doesn't look right"…. the plated hollow point was staring back at me, facing the firing pin, with the primer toward the muzzle. Clearly not ideal. Well, after a trip for the squib rod I scored the worst positive hit factor of all time. Either I totally goofed and fed a round into the mag backwards, which is hard to believe, but not totally inconceivable, or I dropped a mag, had the top round flip over and then topped it off without looking. I think the second option is more likely. At least my ego hopes this is the case. Either way, I felt like a total a$$ for failing to get my bullets pointing the right direction. At least it wasn't a bigger match.
  21. I was at the range a couple years ago, sighting in my newly built AR. New rifle, new scope, new shooter. Next to us in the adjacent shooting bay was one of the old-timer benchrest shooters. As usual, he was stacking bullets into one ragged hole from one of his many wildcats. From previous range sessions, I knew the shooter was a nice guy, could shoot well and also that his opinion of black rifles and the "tactical crowd" was not exactly sunny. When I mentioned to my buddy that I was having a hard time zeroing my new rifle, our neighbor came over to watch us for a bit. Finally I asked if he had any advice…. He suggested making sure the scope rings were tight, bracing on the sandbags closer to the magwell, exhale properly, make sure to follow through, etc. All good advice that has improved my shooting. After watching me shoot a couple more shots, and deeming that I was doing an adequate job, he offered, in what felt like total sincerity: "Maybe you don't have enough crap bolted onto it?" This is NOT my rifle, but it does a ton of crap added on…..
  22. Today it took 1 hour to drive 8 miles to work. There were 3 inches of snow, it was slick, but not that bad. People in ditches, speeding past slow cars on the shoulder. Bald tires, bad attitudes, low skill levels….. there, I'm done.
  23. Thanks for the thoughtful comments- glad to know that we are in a sport where almost everyone is safety conscious and supportive:)
  24. I used clear skate tape on my stainless….. agreed, black skate tape on SS didn't do it justice.
