  1. I don't think it rounds, but it really doesn't matter. You're 20 PF above minor, so you're very safe. Open may be different, but as a production shooter I try to load to 130 PF so I have room to work with temp fluctuations, differences in chronographs, etc.
  2. Still doing my dry fire. I think I've fixed my grip in dry fire, need to confirm in live fire. It looks like it will be sunny enough Thursday to do a practice session. I'm planning the following drills Drill 1: The Dots | 1 rep | 36 Rounds | 7 yds Drill 2: Singles | 44 reps | 132 Rounds | 10 yds Drill 3: Blake Drill | 22 reps | 132 Rounds | 10 yds I was planning to shoot a match on Saturday, but it looks like it will get rained out. I'll be watching the weather; I really wanted to shoot this match.
  3. I thought it meant you loaded a round in the chamber and then put a full magazine in it.
  4. I think your time would be better spent dry firing small stages around your house. I set one up recently that I've been attacking in different ways trying to reduce my par time. It would help with realizing what you can do in a certain amount of time, and help with movement in and out of position. I feel like that would be time much better spent. If you feel like the game helps you more than dry fire would, then keep at it. Placebo effects are real, and they can boost your performance because you think you can do better. Confidence is great, get it where you can. Seth M. Johnson
  5. Earned my D card in June of last year. Started practicing after the last match I shot in November 2014. I shot a ~45% classifier at that match. I shot a match on 2/14 and got a ~70% classifier. Dry fire daily for at least 20 minutes, live fire practice 1x per week with about 300 rounds. GM is my ultimate goal.
  6. Do some research on dual n-back memory games. I believe I read that those were proven effective. Don't feel bad, I fell for it too. It sounds so appealing, but it's based on junk science. Seth M. Johnson
  7. Welcome aboard. Where in Louisiana? Seth M. Johnson
  8. I subscribed for awhile, then I dumped it. I did my research into it, and didn't like what I found. You get better at the games because you keep playing the games. You get better at anything you keep doing repetitively. The problem is, the games don't make you better at anything else. So the time you spend playing the game doesn't deliver on the promised it makes. Seth M. Johnson
  9. This is what this thread makes me think of Seth M. Johnson
  10. Looks like registration opens April 1 http://matchsignup.org/match/default.php?matchid=369
  11. I've never shot a Ruger American, but I own two Vanguard S2 rifles, have done load development with my dad's Remington 700, and own a Savage Hog Hunter. To me, the Vanguard is the best in that price range for ergonomics and accuracy. The Remington 700 was accurate, but the ergonomics SUCK. The Savage is ok. I won it in a varmint drawing, I don't think I ever would have bought one. You can get the Vanguard on Buds for $493.
  12. If you weren't looking to customize the rifle, I would tell you to go Weatherby Vanguard S2 Synthetic. If you want to build off of the action, then Remington 700
  13. Went to the range with 3 drills in mind, but I ended up just doing the Blake Drill at 10 yards. I sucked today. I think I got all As once in the 50 times I did this drill. I am pulling shots low, so most of my Cs are below the A zone. That doesn't account for the multitude of Ds that I got though. I'm going to have to really, really watch my sites in dry fire. I've been dry firing stages instead of static drills. I feel like it's helping me to cut down on the hesitancy I saw in the match any time I had to do something out of the norm or start moving.
  14. Hodgdon lists data for TiteGroup to make subsonic rounds. Here is the load straight from their website. MFG: Hodgdon Powder: Titegroup Bullet Diam.: .224" C.O.L.: 2.200" Starting Load: None listed Maximum Loads Grs: 3.1 Velocity: 1,064 Pressure: 4,000 CUP Keep in mind this will almost certainly not cycle an AR ETA: Bullet is 55 GR. 15. I forgot about those. I toss those in the scrap bucket too. What brass does Freedom Munitions use? If I'm wrong, let me know, but I don't think I've seen a better deal on loaded ammo than they offer. Freedom Munitions uses a lot of Ammoload brass. Okay for minor loads but the bullet shelf in these cases reduces interior case volume and can cause problems when loaded to major power factor. Ammoload type cases are also found with the headstamps FM and IMT. Many guys toss these headstamps on sight but I use them for minor loads of practice ammo. Thanks for answering that. I didn't know what kind of brass they used, but if they use Ammoload I would pass on Freedom. I toss that headstamp when I sort my brass.

  17. If you shoot coated lead bullets in the future, these will fail the case gauge with regularity. I would steer clear of anything with CBC, Tula, Ammo-Load, A-Merc, Aguilla, or IMT head stamps. Winchester, PPU, PMC, Federal, Blazer, Speer, Hornady and others have all seemed to work out fine for me when reloading with coated lead.
  18. I had the exact opposite experience. My CR Speed belt started fraying from putting my gear on it, dry firing, and shooting a hand full of matches. My DAA looks brand new after about a year of use.
  19. I got video of two stages. I am very hesitant and rusty, as you can see. http://vid1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah246/johnsons1480/20150214AREA59_zpsjl1gqr0v.mp4
  20. Call Bayou Bullets. I think he does free shipping after 4 cases. http://bayoubullets.net/
  21. Here's my plan update. I'm going to be changing up the practice sessions. No single target drills unless they are at long distances. Transitions are what I need to practice the most, followed by tight shots. I also need to back off the distance. I don't think a lack of hosing ability is my problem right now. Live Fire I'm going to the range Wednesday. I will be shooting 6 reps of 50 yard bill drills, 22 reps of 10 yd Blake Drills, and 22 reps of 15 yd Blake Drills. The bill drills should help some with tight shots, and the Blake drills will help with transitions. Dry Fire I am going to keep doing the same drills, but with a focus on visual patience. I notice myself breaking shots when the sights aren't there because I expect them to be there. I am going to burn it into my brain this week that I can't break a shot without a proper sight picture.
  22. I did ok at the match. I shot a 70% classifer, so the practice is working. That's 25% higher than my last classifier in November. The rest of the match was pretty weak. I had 6 mikes, 2 deltas, and a no shoot. This is a very challenging match with some tight shots, but that doesn't excuse the bad. I had to leave the match before I shot the last stage, so I didn't get a score for it. I was expecting 5 stages and had made plans after the match. Really fun match, but it's clear I need to dust the cobwebs off with a few more matches. I may try to shoot one on the 28.
