  1. That sounds like a good idea with just getting an extra tool head with 2 dies. I did what I mentioned this morning and caught all the brass with rings in case gauge. It's slow but having my 4 year old case gauge and spending some father/daughter time makes it worthwhile;-)
  2. Well, I do not have the money or bench space for a casepro so I have started sizing and decapping on my 650 and just grabbing the case out of station 2 and throwing in a bucket to case gauge. I'll gauge all of them and separate and then reload those that pass. This will make reloading 38 super much more slower but I'll save on primers and bullets and save time having to pull them afterwards. Easiest and cheapest solution for now.
  3. Dude, your prolly right. KARMA is a B!+ch. it's like one thing or another trying to shoot these Tanfo. Lol
  4. I haven't shot any rounds out of it yet, least not that I have reloaded. I just got the gun and I test fired it with some friends ammo. I didn't expect every case to pass case gauging but out of the 100ish I've loaded, I'd say 15-20 end up with that ring. Every round that doesn't have a ring drops in the case gauge freely and perfect. I'm going to try and load 100 tonight and see exactly how many fail the case gauge. I haven't checked to see if they drop in the chamber, I just assume that the ring could cause feeding or extraction issues but I could be wrong.
  5. Some is once fired and some is range pickup brass
  6. When you speak of alignment issues, what part are you referring? I've loaded thousands of 9mm and 40 before on the same press and never had this issue. I bought a separate tool head, conversion kit, quick change etc for specific calibers. Makes easier to change calibers. How would I check the alignment? Could it be a bum die? I've only loaded like 200 with it maybe. Thanks again for helping diagnose
  7. The ring is all the way around the case. It's not a specific brass and it doesn't happen to every round, but more than I'd like. The ones with the ring fail case gauge right at the ring. The puzzling part is that it's not a specific brass and it doesn't happen to every reload that I don't get.
  8. I have a Dillon 650 and I have been reloading awhile but just started loading 38 Super for my open gun. I am having issues with the sizing die. I just bought a brand new set of Dillon dies and adjusted them correctly on my press. After the brass goes thru stage 1 for resizing and depriming, some cases end up with a deep ring cut into the brass at the very bottom of the case. I am using one shot case lube and I rechecked that I had the sizing die all the way down but then backed off just a hair once it touched the shell plate. When I case gauge the rounds, the ones that fail are because they get caught on that ring made from the sizing die. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I took some pics and hope they are clear enough to see the ring I'm talking about. Thanks in advance
  9. I have gotten the holster thing taken care of, returning it and going with the DAA racemaster. I'm gonna use the autocomp I've got then will try the 3N38. One step at a time mate:-)
  10. Yea, I'm wishing I would have spent the extra money on a DAA or manny Bragg now but I'm gonna see if a few open guys can help at the next match. If still no bueno I'll sell it and go with a different one. Got my slide racker in though Baron and it's a tad too wide to fit. Thinking just smooth a little on edges and it'll become a snug fit. All in all though my open gun/project is coming along:-)
  11. I got a SIRT a while back and it's now what my 5 year old "practices and shoots with dad while dry firing" because it was too easy to focus on the laser than the front sight. I felt it was easy to develop some bad habits with if. I think dry firing your competition pistol is better than laser based training, just my 2 cents
  12. Did you have to do any fitting with that holster? I picked one up for my Gold Custom and it's giving me hell
  13. I decided to start with running 1.240 pushing 124's behind 7.4 grains Autocomp. Hope to chrono it next week. With the popple holes I'm thinking I may have to add more but we'll see. Will work up a load with 7625 but don't wanna get married to it since it'll be phased out end of this year
  14. Gents, I recently got a Tanfo Gold Custom in 38 super and I'm looking for a starting point for major PF using Autocomp. I do have 6# of 7625 but with it being phased out I don't wanna fall in love with the load. I've only shot Production so the 7625 and Autocomp just happen to be what I've got on hand. I'm loading at 1.240 OAL. Also it has 12 popple holes in the barrel which I'd assume will make a difference in the amount of powder needed. 7.0 grains of Autocomp seemed to be a decent starting point from what I gathered but if anyone can chime in with some experience with this load I'd appreciate the help. Oh I'll be pushing 124 Bayous to start. Gump
  15. I think production has turned into the gamer division but I don't think it's because of the Tanfos and CZ's. At the end of the day it's the Indian, not the bow but I do shoot a Stock II:-)
  16. I didn't know you got the new ones? Man you gotta let me fondle those, lol. I'm looking for a new pair of EG grips to fit my Tanfo Gold Custom
  17. I saw the pics. you definitely got a 2011 type mount. it's so much taller as the 2011's have a much taller slide (so distance from frame mount to top of slide is much higher on a 2011 vs a tanfog). not to mention the hole spacing is a dead give away. I'm not sure if they make the upright mount you have in the tanfog bolt pattern but as nealio posted they do make the 90 mount in tanfoglio pattern. cost is about $100 from DAA. it's a nice mount but still too far forward on a V12. On mine I moved it back one screw (so only 3 screws holding it) which works ok, but the better solution is the cheely setback 90 mount. He recently made a batch and may or may not have some left. From memory cost on those is $100 too but it's a better mount as it puts the cmore further to the rear. it's nice and low too. If you shoot a lot of iron sights and plan to still shoot irons I'd suggest going the 90 mount. it puts the dot a lot lower than any upright mount can. my dot is about 17mm above the slide so basically only 10mm above a normal height front sight. Yes, I had the wrong mount. I put the stock one back on and it's MMUUUUCCCHHHH lower, lol. A friend has a KIDD blast shield for me in trade and I'm returning the 2011 mount and gonna try out a thumb rest from a friend. My sidewinder racker should be in next week. I've gotta do a little fitting on my Ghost holster and then I'll be set except for a few big sticks from George later on. Throwing the 38 super conversion on my 650 tonight and gonna make some test rounds with the Autocomp and 7625 I've got on hand. Seems like I remember someone saying that 1.20 OAL was good for the Gold Custom
  18. Cool, well just let me know once y'all can get a few done. What capacity of 38 super can y'all get in them
  19. Ok man, well just let me know when y'all get a chance to do more. Thanks again
  20. George, are y'all still making Tanfo big sticks? I called EAA and they were out of stock and did not have an answer on getting more anytime soon. Thanks in advance. Gump
  21. Well I am going back to the factory mount on my open gun. The Quinn mount is like 2 inches tall over gun and only 2 screws will hold it on. I like the look but just WAAAYYYY too tall. I was told it would fit Tanfos from person got it from but it's gotta be for a SVI/STI. If anyone wants it I'll give them a smoking good deal.
  22. Update....the open gun is coming back to life. On the agenda next will be load experimentation;-)
