    The 380 ACP is evil

Yeah, that's what I really ended up doing. Made me feel better embellishing the story a bit.
  2. I have always found reloading relaxing and therapeutic. After perfectly setting up my 650 I start cranking out reloads to a satisfying and calming click, clack and cluck of turning out round after round. I shoot .40 S&Win my limited and that is the majority of my reloading. But I also reload .223 and .243 finding equal satisfaction. Well my wife decides she would like to shoot USPSA herself so I buy her a XDM 5.25 in 9 mm. Since I had some Atlanta Arms gift certificates I purchased 500 rounds of 9mm to get her started. I knew I would have to start reloading for her soon so I purchased some 124 gr JHP Montana Gold bullets and Titegroup. I also found some ounce fired 9mm brass. Well today is 9mm reloading day. I start changing over my press with the exacting standards that give me satisfaction and contentment. Everything is perfect and I start the familiar rhythm. But wait something is wrong. the bullet that I just placed on top of the flaired shell slipped into the case case way to easy. I stopped and checked the case only to find that it was an evil 380 case. Curses, now I'll have to check each case. Went through all 2500 that I purchased and found 105 pieces of 380. Now not only am I angry with the person that sold me the brass but I realise that I will never find the bliss that I found reloading my other calibers. I can only conclude this 380 caliber must be the work of Satan himself. What use can it be other than to cause us misery and a sense of foreboding when it comes time to set up the press for 9mm. I set about a plan to rid the world of this evil. I crushed each of those Satans minions in a vice and placed them in a hole on the property. I sprinkled them with holy water and placed a wooden cross on top before covering them with earth. At least these will not return into circulation to torment the souls of reloaders.
  3. I found this posted on the for sale board at my range. He said the price was firm but I used my negotiating skills and got it for $24.?
  4. 7 grains is enough to put me in minor power factor. A 200 grain bullet at 850 fps makes 170,000 of. If they pull the bullet at chrono that comes in at 193 gr the power factor goes to 164,050.
  5. I agree 3 grains won't make much of a difference but the bullets I purchased varied more tha 7 grains.
  6. I understand where your coming from. But I only shoot 8000 rounds per year. So if I download 3 tenths of a grain per bullet that is 2400 grains saved which amounts to about $11 per year reloading with expensive Vit N320. My biggest savings comes from switching from Montana Gold 180gr JHP to cast and coated. That saves me $400 per year.
  7. Only made 160.435 power factor. The magic number is 4.0 gr of N320 OAL 1.180 gives a four shot average of 872 fps x 197 gr bullet= 171.8 power factor.
  8. Just made up a few 200 gr loads using 3.7 gr of N320 and OAL of 1.180. I will report chrono results later today.
  9. Thanks, I will adjust. Out of 500 bullets the low was 193.4 and the high was 200.7 with most around 199.3. I will calculate for bullet weight of 195gr. The weight of the bullets is not the problem but the difference in the bullet weights found in the box makes me have to check and sort bullets or just go for a higher power factor to keep from going minor if they pull a bullet that is 7gr ligther than the ones I checked. I talked to the owner of the company that made them and he told me they have a + or - 1gr tolerance on their bullets.
  10. After reloading only plated and jacketed bullets I finally broke under peer pressure an ordered 200gr and 180gr coated lead bullets to try out. I checked the weight of the 200gr and was surprised to find Almost 14% 1.2gr or more under weight. I found one to be 193.4gr. Is this normal for cast and coated bullets? I load my jacketed bullets to 170,000 power factor and feel I will have to increase the power factor to stay on the safe side when using coated lead.
  11. Looks like I will be saving money on powder since it seems to take 5% less to make the same power factor when using coated lead instead of jacketed bullets.
  12. Seriously I'm not wheelchair bound but my mother in law is. It's great when we take her out shopping. We hang all the bags on the chair so we don't have to lug them around the mall. She has an electric version with an extra set of controls for a caregiver to operate from behind the chair. She never uses it so I was thinking of converting it to a range cart.
  13. To me that's personal transportation.
  14. I agree. Here in northeast Illinois only rifle powders in small quantities are to be found. 3 hours north plenty of pistol powder.
  15. Thanks, sounds like a good starting point
  16. Happened to me too many times. Be especially careful when shooting poppers from positions not directly in front of the popper. At 45 degree angle of engagement the kinetic energy is reduced by 30% or more.
  17. I have heard the same about Titegroup but supposedly BBI's new type of coating should not be effected by hot powders. Thanks for the feedback.
  18. After shooting MG 180 gr. HP in my 5" STI LTD for the last two years and taking a lot of grief from my lead bullet shooting buddies ( they say I'm an idiot for spending a nickel more per bullet). I decided to purchase 500 each of BBI 180 gr. and 200 gr. bullets and see what all the fuss is about. I have N320 and Titegroup. I can come up with loads myself but I would like to know what recipes others have found to work best with the above bullet and powder combinations.
  19. Can you add me Zack? Zoomy, TY79706 Limited.
  20. It will fit the Versamax. The trouble is that the Versamax loading port is longer to accomadate 3.5" shells while the Benelli loads 3" max. The result will be more space in front of the lifter when used on the Versamax and still a risk to grab your thumb.
  21. I have a 18" barrel with a Wylde chamber and 1 in 8 twist. I have had no problems running 5.56 or .223 with bullet weights from 45 gr to 68 gr and never had any feeding clambering or extraction problems. Several people that I know that run Wylde chambered barrels also have no problems.
  22. The 2015 Ford F-150 has an all Aluminium body so the weigh is down more than 700# and no more corrosion problems. Tow capacity fuel economy have gone up with the weigh reduction. Plenty of engine choices. Only wish they had a diesel option.
  23. My wife was riding and competing since before she could ride a bike so when we met in our thirties and married in our early forties I had a good idea what I was in for. We built our house on forty acres and the horses moved with us. Spent $75,000 on the barn and $15,000 on the arena and fencing and at last count we have 14 saddles and countless other pieces of horse related equipment. But we have been able to teach our nieces and nephews how to ride and the responsibilities that go along with keeping a living thing happy and healthy. And a big plus for parents is that if their girls get deeply involved in riding and competition they tend to get past all that teenage boy crazy stuff. Yes I would do it all over again even if it means giving up vacations and keeping my cars for ten years. And my wife encourages me spend what we have left in our budget on guns and shooting.
