  1. ...and I'm a little worried that primer crud will find its way to the lube I applied for the ball and my easy turning shell plate will be short lived. I'll have to wait and see. I use dry graphite for shell plate lube for this very reason, you also might try lapping or lightly honing the bottom of shellplate to be sure its perfectly flat Fred
  2. Even easier, unhook actuator rod, pull the pins and slide the toolhead off to empty the hopper.
  3. Another thing to check is the bottom face of the shoulder bolt (that locates on index star), I've seen them have burrs or high spots from dings cause some drag. Fred
  4. Sweet !! one question, what opens the molds for bullet drop, are the arms spring loaded ? couldn't tell from video Fred
  5. I haven't used my Loadmaster in quite a while, but I definitely would go to separate seating and crimping stations, I just use a taper crimp die myself, haven't found a need for a Lee FCD die.Your seater should be OK, just back off the die body so it doesn't crimp, and run the seater stem down to desired COL. Fred
  6. not a dumb idea at all, I've seen more than 1 dillon equipped this way. Fred
  7. Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago, 2 seating dies part anyway.
  8. The case activates the powder measure. Fred
  9. Not new to reloading, but just got my first Dillon earlier this year (I get everything through BE), last week had to try out customer service for the first time, got in a set of 45 dies, 2 bullet seaters, no taper crimp, emailed Brian on Weds, got a response in 47 minutes, let me know he'd take care of it, Saturday got a package from Dillon, I'm sold Fred
  10. Ordered dies, 650 parts, conversion and a 550 conversion on 5-14, got everything today but the set of .45 dies
  11. I just got an order of Tula LP in today from PV, UPS didn't even ask for a signature.
  12. My thoughts exactly, waiting on a email back from EGW, but I may try to bore mine out also, at least one chamber anyway. The Dillon i have borrowed measures .405"
  13. yeah they plunk test fine in the weapon, but I'd still like to know whats up with the EGW unit, its just a little handier to use.
  14. measured with a bore mic, and its not the chamber, its the hole under the chamber thats undersize.
  15. wow someone actually does have a smaller reloading area than I do nice setup though, wish mine was that uncluttered. Fred
  16. Just started reloading 40SW for an SR40, got one of the EGW 4 hole versions, none of my ammo wll drop all the way down (all brass full length sized) unless I drop it in base first, it's hitting the shoulder of the bullet (180gr TC cast) so I measure the bore below the chamber area, and it's only .395" to .396" depending on which hole, there's no way a .402" cast bullet is ever going to fit this gauge, and i doubt a jacketed round will either. I borrowed a Dillon unit and everything fits fine, is the EGW piece defective ? or am I missing something here ? Thanks, Fred
  17. As far as the index star, pull the shoulder bolt that holds it down, and check for burrs on the bottom of the shoulder, they get banged around in shipping when Dillon buys them. I just chucked mine in lathe and smoothed it up, a hand drill would do the job also. My new 550 was a little noisy also, but it only took a couple hundred rounds to smooth up and quiet down, I used Mobil 1 5-30wt o mine. Fred
  18. I just got a new 550B also, I'm using same load (4.0 Clays) and never get over .1 variance, when I first got my new press, I pulled the tube off powder measure and polished the funnel area, also I keep hopper ove half full always, and wipe the inside of tube with dryer sheet before filling. Fred
  19. Thanks guys, it was too much crimp, the Dillon TC die has a sharper angle than my old RCBS that I was used to, just need to be a little more precise with the new one, and to answer wgj3, Dillon dies, and seat and crimp in separate stations. thanks again, Fred
  20. Hi, just got my 550 in along with .45ACP dies, loading up some 200gr lead SWC (.452"), and I'm getting some lead being forced out of the case mouth. I've reset for more bell on the cases, and backed off taper crimp and it doesn't seem to make any difference, I miked the funnel at .448" is this a little too small ? and is it "swaging" bullet diameter down ? my friend's measured .449" and my other brand of 45 dies is right at .450" is my Dillon unit undersize or do I need to make a custom piece, any and all help is appreciated. Fred
  21. Before I reassemble mine, I always give it a little shot of dry graphite lube.
  22. I posted earlier, my 550 was ordered on Feb 11th, still waiting, but my .45 dies showed up today.
  23. This is an awesome setup ! gonna have to talk to the welders at the shop and see if I can come up with a setup like that. Thanks for sharing. Fred
