  1. I had Paul Grundhauser build me a 5" IPSC standard pistol that can also be easily used in USPSA as well. The only difference is the STI mag well vs the Dawson ICE mag well that I would normally have on my pistols. Paul built me a 6" limited gun 3 years ago and it is by far and away the best slide to frame fit, most accurate (2" groups at 50yds OFFHAND unsupported btw..)reliable handgun I own. Until now. He now has crafted this 5" pistol that has an even better slide to frame fit, which I didn't know was possible. This 5" will literally squeegee the oil off the rails of the slide and frame. Try to wiggle the slide and frame at all, and it feels like you are attempting to move on solid block of steel. Pictures really do not do this pistol justice. This handgun has to be handled in order to fully appreciate how well built it is. Understand that Paul was a machinist who used to build race car engines in years past. He is also an avid shooter and unbelievable pistol smith. I often refer to him as the gun whisperer. I am aware there are a great number of pistol smith's out there and many are very talented. Suffice it to say, Paul is a hidden gem in the State of Minnesota. Once more people find out about him, the higher the classification scores will be. I'm teetering on GM at the moment without a lot of effort on my part. The pistol is so accurate that it makes me look good. Yes, he really makes this nice of a pistol. Again, I know many others do and I mean no slight to any of the number of talented pistol smiths, but add in Paul's exacting machinist attitude with gun building and you have an incredible combination. I will include some pictures as soon as I can. Or maybe even a video or two. If you should see me at Area 3, Area 4, USPSA limited nationals or the IPSC nationals and want to take a look at or handle the pistol known as "Rat", feel free to ask me. I'd be more than happy to show you. PS: I used this 5" gun to remove a fly off of a metric USPSA target at 8 yards. I should have renamed it the "fly-slaughter", but it was given a name already, so... "Rat" it is.
  2. Yep, it IS a thankLESS job Troy. Patience patience patience people...
  3. Steven, The Pre-Match is for staff and sponsors and a select few "regular" competitors to shoot the match. It is the normal match on the same stages and is shot for score. Just like an "RO" or "Staff" day at a USPSA match. IPSC just calles it the Pre-Match. If you're in the "Main Match" you will shoot on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Awards and shoot-offs on Sunday. Shannon Hahaha, I should have known (duh)... thanks for the info.
  4. Here's a newb question. Since I have never been to an IPSC nationals before, what exactly happens on the "pre match" days? Just trying to figure out when I'm going to fly out there, take vacation days etc.. Thanks.
  5. Welcome aboard the board (or bored? haha). Now we just have to have the snow melt away and get the global warming to start up and all will be good in the world.
  6. That was an EASY registration/payment process. Love it.
  7. I was wondering if they have a squad matrix set up yet to see what squad starts on what stage etc... Thanks.
  8. And now a word of from Mr.Positivity... I just signed up for my first A6 match. I booked my flight about a month ago, signed my buddy and I up today via the line set up and we are now awaiting Thursday April 19th to take flight to Florida. Can't wait!!! Squad 25 Sat PM/Sun AM. Take THAT , negativity!
  9. Not the same. The Area 2 match has been held at the Rio Salado range in Mesa, AZ. The High Desert Classic is usually the New Mexico sectional or championship. Oke dokee, thanks for the info.
  10. My other hobbies include playing softball and motorcycle touring. So many things to do in the summer and so little time (especially in the great white north).
  11. It was the firet steel match my son and I had ever gone to. It's not the traditional steel cahenge courses, but it was still a fun time. Kudos to you for getting your kids out there too! That is really cool to hear about all of the involvement your kids have with the shooting sports.
  12. Here is Lars shooting his first steel shoot. He started shooting USPSA events this year, so we thought we'd try him at a steel shoot as well. He did very well. He has shown a keen interest in the shooting sports. I'd bet he will be with me at more events over the next year.
  13. The problem with some Glock owners is the need to tinker,,,,too much. This sometimes leads to malfunctions that normally wouldn't occur if you just left the stock parts in the pistol. The shooter is then left spinning around chasing their own tails as to what the problem is with the guns and why they don't go bang. I'd switch out the sites for sure, and maybe polish the connector and trigger bar and install a longer mag catch, but that would be about it. I wouldn't mess with any of the actual firing components--this is where the tail chasing starts... Good luck.
  14. Same here, just picked it up a week ago. I actually felt a difference in the recoil impulse from 2 range rental guns (a gen 3 and a gen 4 G17 with factory ammo). It is interesting how the ejection pattern on the brand new G17 I purchased pretty much sprayed all over including into my face a few times. Then, when I put in my 133pf handloads, that problem disappeared. I could have put a 5 gallon bucket and caught all of the casings to my 4:30 position with my hand loads.
  15. Glock 17 Gen4 (stock pistol--no trigger job) with Dawson sites Montana Gold 124gr JHP bullet sitting on 4.38gr Solo 1000 OAL 1.125". It is making 133-ish power factor. This was unsupported at a strong 15 yards. I'm still getting used to the pistol as it is new to me. 8 of my 17 rounds are in a nice tight cluster. I have always used the MG's in my open pistol as well. I like them, but I am always open to something else. Who knows? If I shot the PD's and the same or different powder, maybe all 17 shots would be touching each other (good touch ) vs touching the eadges of the paper (bad touch ).
  16. Hello Bill, I was wondering if the results of the SS matches from the past are available anywhere? I see the website is new and I'm not sure if the results of the past matches will be included in the new web page? Thanks.
  17. This post is an example of why so many of us "regular people" are happy that you won this year!!! I don't know of any of the other Supers that would take the time to put this on this forum. I was so proud of you! I never was able to tell you that in person as you had media hanging all over you during the award ceremony.... haha. And the story about what Manny did on Stage 1?!! That is nuts!!! I thought I had a good run and I was in the 13's on that stage. Man, I suck. Awesome victory Smitty!
  18. I'm good with it if it were a CED7000 with a rubber case on it.... haha.
  19. So what do you make? Not enough to make it up to you!!!! Funny, I'm about to take off for a full day of overtime just to help pay the ammo bills! You and I should have talked earlier in the week Ben..... I sure am PROUD of you though!!! That was one heck of a match you had.
  20. That's a lot of money Steven... Cat is gonna kill ya if you loose. Ha Ha!! Or it's going to be a REALLY BIG pay day for me... Just think of what I could get her with my winnings (58.00 in all for a 1/2yrs salary). :-)
  21. I just dont see how anybody can bet against Dave in the production match. I'd bet a 1/2 years salary that he's going to win that division. Am I missing something here or?
  22. Chills, You are right, the SS nationals is held at the end of April into early May.
