  1. This is a pretty broad based question but I'll try to help: 1. If possible, position yourself far enough away from your cover to utilize that cover, but not restrict your ability to index the weapon from target to target. Use your normal stance/NPA if you can. If not, don't rush, or recognize the uncomfortable position you may be in, just call the shot and move on. 2. Under no circumstances, use your cover as a gun prop. Keep the weapon off of, or away from the barricade or whatever your cover is. You'll see some shooters use the cover as a balance or rest and doing so will generally slow you up considerably, even though it may feel more stable having a "rest" available. 3. Practice either live or dry fire, until you can consistently anchor your lower body while rotating your upper body (like a tank turret) to index from outside to middle to inside target(s). Always try to avoid a situation where you have to reposition your feet to acquire the targets.

    Southerners

Eric, looks like you have a pretty good grasp on some parts of Southern culture, at least at a high level. I knowed I didn't spy you whupping out one of dem fancy Southern English Dictionary and Translation books when we met at the FGNs last year. Seemed like you understood pert'near everthing I said. Now if I can just stop shooting like one'a dem little ol ladies driving 30 MPH down the interstate, I'll be in good shape.
  3. I was using the Heinie Specialty sights for a while and took the front and had it milled down to a .100 width. This is about as narrow as you can go on that model due to the threads for the front sight screw. Even at a .100 width you could see the threads in one small area. Never had any problems though. One could probably try a .105 width and not have any problems with getting into the threads.
  4. You should get off your duff Phil and shoot a few more matches! Good luck.
  5. Started with the Florida Open last month. Hope to hit South Carolina, Area 6, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and the FGNs.

    Lightest possible

I agree with Flex. Significant amounts of additional sight lift, etc. could be a problem, but a minor addition in more lift or recoil isn't an issue as long as it's consistent. You just get used to it and adapt as needed. That probably even isn't a big deal if one is visually patient. Personally, my biggest obstacle is maintaining a continued state of visual patience during a course of fire.
  7. I've been playing around with an Elmer's (the glue people) aerosol product called Slide All with Teflon. It dries quickly and without a film. Really leaves stuff slick. I've been using it a few months and really like it. (Edited by cpty1 at 1:47 pm on Feb. 25, 2003)

    Lightest possible

I use stock (non-clipped) ISMI 13 pound springs in both my G34 production gun and my G35 limited gun. I like the feel and certainly like the convenience of just throwing another spring in when necessary. I've never played around with clipping springs in either application but may do so. Seems interesting there seems to be two distinctly different schools of thought regarding light versus heavy springs in Glocks. Does the same disparity exist in SV/STI platforms?
  9. I have one of the flexible cable chuck extensions on my dremel tool, the older, very small one that will actually fit up into the magazines. I use a small felt polishing wheel and a bit of simichrome to polish the inside of my magazines. Works great on the flat surfaces, but I still haven't found a way to get into the corners yet.
  10. I agree. As a matter of fact, we were discussing utilizing the turtle targets more often. I think they're a tougher target, especially at distance, and would make everyone a better shooter.
  11. The Florida Open was my first opportunity to see Eric G. shoot live, as opposed to video. What struck me immediately was his smoothness. IMO, there are great shooters who are smooth, and on the other hand, great shooters who are fast in more of a lightning quick, robotic movement type fashion. Eric takes smooth to a new level. Make no mistake, it's obvious he's fast, but his smoothness makes you think a couple or three seconds more should be on the timer than what ends up there when he finishes the course of fire.
  12. Years ago I used something called Adhere II powder by Cramer. The name has now been changed to Firm Grip Powder by the same company. I liked it because it was a dry, anti-slip powder that eliminated the problem of sweaty hands without making your hands sticky. Since I started using Agrip I haven't had a need for the powder, but the last of it I bought I got from Cramer direct because I couldn't find it anywhere. You can check it out here http://www.cramersportsmed.com/institution...g.jsp?catID=115
  13. I agree with Chriss Grubbe. I have always believed that once a shooter is given a classification in any division, that should be the classification that shooter competes in regardless of division. If you're B class in open, then you're automatically B class in every other division, whether you've ever shot in that division or not. Your class would go up in all divisions as you move up in class in any one division. Unclassified would be reserved for those new shooters who haven't yet had four classifier scores entered. I think this would be more fair from a competitive standpoint to all concerned, and would certainly eliminate some of the adminstration headache at HQ.
  14. I've just recently installed a set of the Dawson adjustable fiber sets. I really like them so far, however, they have only been on the gun for two or three weeks. I'm used to a thinner front sight than they offer but we'll see. I've used a thin serrated front post forever and am just now experimenting with fiber.

    Newbie needs help!

I remember something in a previous Front Sight where they were talking about the need to standardize on production holsters. They said something about requiring the holster to cover the barrel up to the ejection port. Don't know if they've implemented that, or even if they will, but I do recall seeing that in print somewhere.

  17. Was wondering what everyone thought about the new USPSA points series championship. I don't have much information at this time, but what I have received came from here: http://uspsa-area6.org/ Thoughts or comments? (Edited by cpty1 at 9:02 am on Dec. 30, 2002)
  18. Yes, I've always used a strip under the trigger guard. Seems the underneath of the trigger guard on my G34 and G35 are rough on the top of the knuckle of my middle finger. Since Agrip is my grip enhancement of choice, I run a strip of it under the trigger guard as well. Works nicely.

    Recoil Guide Rods

Yeah, when I said "drive out the cap pin" I meant drive it out with a hammer. That's what I did anyway. Not like pounding a 16 penny nail, but it takes some impact to dislodge that cap, and when it comes out, if it's not contained it's going somewhere far, far away.

    Recoil Guide Rods

You are correct in that you can't change the material of the stock recoil spring rod and still remain in SSP, but you can use the stock recoil spring assembly and replace the spring with a lighter one. You have to be careful because the plug cap in the stock assembly will launch during disassembly so you have to have some way of controlling that. (I work inside a gallon size clear ziplock bag.) Insert a piece of coat hanger or stiff wire in the small hole and drive out the cap pin at the other end. Place your spring on the rod and compress the spring enough to install the rod cap back in place. Works like a charm. Good luck. BTW, I think Glockmeister sells lighter springs already on the stock assembly also.

    Why not Glock?

Way to go Shooter Grrl....straight and to the point. Ok, IMO, quickly and for starters... - simplicity of operation - dependability and reliability - availability of spare parts - price... one could set up identical primary and backup guns for less money than a single gun on other platforms

    G35 spring question

Factory ammo should rule out an OAL problem. I'm using the same guiderod for the 34/35/17L. The mag lip issue I mentioned was not wear as much as the fact that they can spread out with use over time. Check this post for mag lip dimensions: http://www.brianenos.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard...2&topic=184

    G35 spring question

I have used a G35 with 13# spring and tungsten rod for a long time with no problems. My first thoughts would be OAL of ammo, magazine spring, or incorrect feed lip dimensions.
