    Magwell For G35

CGR also sells the aluminum version of a THE magwell if you're interested in keeping the gun as light as possible. I use the aluminum version on my G35 and really like it. Wasn't interested in the extra weight.
  2. I know some people use the Hogue slip covers under AGrip so you should be OK. Just to be sure, I would contact John Amidon at USPSA headquarters for the final say.
  3. Some of you know I've been playing around with an open gun for the first time in 10 years or so. During this time I've been constantly reminded of how the dot allows me to see much more, much more easily. One thing I noticed the other day after having not shot that particular gun in a couple of weeks or so was the dot no longer tracked vertically for me the way it had been doing, but tracked in more of a 1 o'clock to 7 o'clock pattern. I relaxed my grip on the gun and immediately the gun (dot) started not only tracking vertically once again in a 12 to 6 fashion, but was also much flatter with less overall dot movement. It was an enlightening experiment changing various grip pressures in my strong and support hands and seeing the impact it had on the movement of the gun as reflected by the movement of the dot.
  4. Just looked at the stage layout. Looks like a lot of fun....especially the 18 round all steel stage. Don't see those every day. A field course with steel....gotta love it.

    Glock 9x19 Open

I PM'd you his information if you want to contact him. His name is John Nagel. I'm sticking with limited for Area 6 so John's gonna be shooting the gun there if anyone who's going wants to look him up and see it.

I suspect the builder isn't too worried about pending patents or patent infringement issues. While a few gunsmiths are very forthcoming about how they do what they do, there are many more who choose not to share every trick they know or every detail about how they do something for the obvious reasons. I'm not saying this particular builder won't share details with you down to the mike measurements, but if he chooses to do so that's his choice, not mine.

caspian28r - yes I was using the Wolff 4 pound spring. I've always used them in my production and limited guns with no trouble. However, with the 9mm open we thought rifle primers would be needed because of the high pressures, so I think the extra toughness of the rifle primer was too much for reliable ignition with the light spring. I put the stock fp spring back in and all was well. ryucasta - the term "wundergun" is yours, not mine. This is not my gun, but the gentleman who built it has many, many hours of work invested. He was kind enough to lend me the gun to shoot for as long as I want, and as such, I will show enough decency to honor and respect his initial request to me regarding what information is, and is not revealed in public forums. I have put several members in touch with the builder and will also provide you with his name and telephone number if you request.

The area you drew is in the comp/cone but that's certainly not where it ends. The cone of the comp goes well beyond the last hole in the barrel away from your green line and towards the breech. You can't see the end of the cone because it goes beyond the point the slide cut reveals to. It's a big comp and an even bigger cone. Hope this makes sense. I would take a pic with the slide off, but I know that would reveal some of the stuff the builder feels are his unique ideas and has already told me he doesn't want pics going out of the internals.

Flex - the lockup on the gun, to me, looks like a traditional comp/cone type lockup. SS - thanks for the compliment. I'll agree with you in the respect that the gun is ugly, though admittedly cosmetics weren't a priority when the gun was built. John was just trying to see if he could get something that would work and run. And you know there's always that "in function there is beauty crowd". As a matter of fact, I wouldn't really call any Glock pretty. They just don't have that sexy, streamlined looked a gov't, SVI, or STI has. Today was the first match I've shot with it and it was fun. An open gun almost seems like cheating after shooting production and limited. I shot the match clean today but did lose a couple or three seconds due to light primer strikes that were a combination of high primers and/or a too light spring combination setup. Nevertheless, I'm still really anxious to see the results. I shot Joey's open 9s today as well after the match. That one with the short comp is "schweet". If that Mongoose thing you've got shoots anything like his open 9, I'm sure you're a happy man.
  11. I've been using WSR primers in a Glock and playing around with different trigger components. This particular Glock would not ignite the WSR primers with any reduced power firing pin spring combination of any sort. As long as the stock springs were in place, it's ignited the WSRs with no problem.

I can't tell you much about the mount other than it's a custom job with a Kidd blast deflector attached. I'll PM you with a name and number of the guy who built it. You can call him with any questions. He's building another gun that incorporates some new ideas, some of which is a lightened slide and a three bolt mount as opposed to the two bolt mount design in the above photo.

    Glock 9x19 Open

Here's a couple of pics of the Glock open 9 blaster I've been playing with. Bear in mind this is still in the R&D stages but it's getting close. Tool and machine marks have not been buffed out, corners need radiused in a few places, and a bit of streamlining is needed on the comp itself. You'll notice the comp assembly and lockup is a bit different than on most Glocks. C-More mount is custom. Most of the trigger and action internals are Lightning Strike components. Magwell is a Dawson Ice. Had to put an Agrip on that bad boy as well. Here's a closer shot of the comp and barrel.

The one I'm playing with is similar in design especially as it relates to your proposed new holes marked in green. I'll try and post pics soon instead of trying to describe it verbally.
  15. What's your first shot draw times with that bad boy?

    Glock 9x19 Open

Even though this thread morphed into a loads thread, I thought I'd update everyone on the open gun experiment. Spent some time this weekend after the South Carolina match playing more with this Glock 9mm open gun. Got loads worked out. Ended up with 8.5 grains of 3n37 with a 125 JHP. Chronographed at 169. I put a thread in the humor forum about an advantage I've found with shooting major 9. You don't need a powder scale! Fill the case to the rim and you're done . I've decided now that Dillon needs to add a powder tamping station to their 9mm presses. Had forgot about the noise and blast Muffs over plugs helped with that. Anyone familiar with shooting Glocks in either production or limited I feel could adjust very easily to an open Glock. A dot sight is much easier to shoot IMO than iron sights. This particular gun has some things I haven't seen much on open Glocks, i.e. a custom mount to allow a C-More to be attached. Since a major 9 takes a pretty good beating, I think this setup would be more dependable than anything that mounts in the rear sight dovetail and has to reciprocate with the slide. A Dawson Precision "Ice" magwell has been modified and attached to the gun as well. The lower end and action are set up to, and feel similar to my G35 limited gun. I was surprised that this gun with the C-More points almost like my limited gun. I was expecting to have to adjust to a new NPA with the dot, but that hasn't been the case and would make any transition from an iron sighted Glock much quicker and easier. I suppose some of this is due to the lower end feeling/being the same and the C-More not being that much higher above the bore axis than my current iron sighted gun. The gun is fast and light. The current load just kind of bounces the dot up and down in the A zone, although some tweaking and experimenting might reveal and even better load to shoot. I'm going to shoot the gun in local matches here Wednesday night and hopefully again on Saturday. I'm kinda looking forward to it.

    Loading 9mm Major

In playing around with a 9mm open gun, I've seen one advantage to shooting a 9mm major. You don't need a powder scale at all. With a 125 JHP load of 3n37 you just put as much powder in the case as it will hold and you're done. Chronographs 169 on the money. I am going to talk to Dillon about adding a new optional station to their 9mm presses. That would be the new powder compression station in between the powder drop and bullet seating stations.
  18. Thanks guys. Yep, tupperware it was. I'll admit I've been fortunate to win my class at several matches recently but this was the first time I shot a percentage above my class, and even this time just barely. You'll notice that score is only 2-3% above "A" class. That was a fun match. Stage 3 was as much fun as any stage I've ever shot. Talk about runnin' and gunnin'! Was good to finally meet Jon Merricks. BTW Singlestack, ask the Ms. about the video we have of her on stage 1. Very good blackmail material that you're definitely gonna want. I've dubbed the new position she created on that stage the " extended posterior creedmore". I only wish I hadn't been standing there mouth agape, and could have offered some commentary during the film. I'd be a rich man.
  19. I'll be there shooting limited. I initially signed up for Friday, but may need to change to a Saturday/Sunday slot due to a work conflict.
  20. Singlestack's version of events is about as accurate as that of the Iraqi Minister of (mis)Information a couple of days ago regarding what was really happening in Baghdad.
  21. "Comandeered" it huh? Yeah right! I heard she just kicked Singlestack's butt and took it!

    Glock 9x19 Open

I recall from years ago something about 540 being really, really temperature sensitive. Major variations in velocity depending on heat or cold. Just fyi....anyone confirm or deny this?

    Glock 9x19 Open

Since all my limited, lim-10 and production division shooting revolves around the Glock platforms, a local guy asked me to play around with a Glock 9x19 open gun he was building. I haven't shot an open gun in years, but man..I'll have to say I was surprised at what this guy has done. Not only was the gun flat but it was much softer than what I was expecting. I was especially surprised when comparing this Glock side by side to a 38 Super on a Sx platform that he also owned. He had a couple of different comp/barrel variations so some time was spent working out the loads necessary to make major with each. He's now going back to the loading bench to load major ammo in bulk for each variation then it'll be back to the range for more exhaustive shooting sessions and dependability tests. I'll post with the results of these next sessions. If anyone is building, or considering converting one of their current Glocks into an 9x19 open gun, let me know and I'll hook you up with this guy so you can compare notes, etc. My limited gun felt like a horse after shooting that open gun. Probably shouldn't have oughta done that.
