  1. This is great advice! Light/heavy, short/long, holes/no holes, 9/38, these design choices go in and out of fashion and each of the 'smiths listed have their preferences. Take it from me: don't ask a 'smith to build a gun setup different from his preferences, you'll be fighting an uphill battle; better to find a 'smith who agrees with you on the best way to build your gun. I highly suggest asking around at the local match to see if you can try different style guns, chances are good there's someone you shoot with with a gun sitting in their safe you can shoot for a whole match because a few rounds in the been will not tell you much. Sounds like the money won't be a problem, but if you're not solid on the choices above you might consider buying a few guns used to help you figure it out. I have built and owned many custom Open guns, CZs, Tanfoglios, and 2011s, what gun have I shot in every match for the past 10 months since I bought it? My box-stock Czechmate It just works! If I could go back in time five years, I'd buy a Czechmate and a Tactical Sport to build a custom Czechmate with a better, lighter comp.
  2. I've loaded tens of thousands of rounds at 9.4gr of SP2 (same burn characteristics as 3N38, although a hair more dense) I've even gone as high as 10gr! It's a full case, but if you don't run the press like a drunken sailor you'll be fine.

  4. This edge is a slightly acute angle, the more square you make it, the more likely the slide to release when you insert the mag.
  5. Thank you gentlemen, this is by far the best shooting forum I've ever come across
  6. The Witness steel is a great gun at the price point and has identical guts to the Stock II/III guns, it just doesn't have any good sight options, nice checkering, nor flared mag well.
  7. If you're not loading for USPSA Major and you want to see just how flat your gun can shoot, get some 95/100gr bullets and N105 or 3N38; the bullets are short, so OAL is not a concern, recoil is very light and you can load a TON of powder under them. The flattest load I've ever shot was 10gr of SP2 (almost identical to 3N38) under a 100gr pill.
  8. I think there is an idea rolling around the gun community that if you shoot someone in self defense it has to be with a box stock gun or the prosecutor will crucify you. I've yet to hear anything anecdotal evidence that any trivial detail about the gun in question has ever come into play in such a case.
  9. My math was wrong , but you still did great for your first match Now looking at the scores I can see where he made big gains over you: -he was scored major where you were scored minor, so while your B/C shots cost you two points, they only cost him one -he blew up on stage three, but it was a low round count stage so it didn't hurt him much -he smoked stages two and four, which were weighted heavily due to the high round count
  10. Good point, I would have to look at each stage in isolation to apply that logic. Hopefully we can take a look at the real results
  11. You'll have to make your own, it's not too hard and can be done with a drill and file. I'll send you a PM about your project, I think I can be of assistance
  12. By all means Gray, please show us the scoreboard so we don't have to guess
  13. He gave me the points scored (I assumed they're both shooting major, if he was shooting minor it would have a marginal impact because he shot 116 As out of 120 shots; if the other guy beat him shooting minor he would have had an outrageously low time): 596 vs 538, he gave me the difference in time: 5.53 seconds, and he said he was beaten, so: 596/X < 538/(X-5.3) Solve for X: X (Gray's overall time) < 56.83 seconds Therefore Grays hit factor was greater than 10.48 (forgive me for my rough estimate above) Minor scoring would have only changed his score by 0.6% So like I said above, 116 As and, 2 Bs and 2 Cs in under 56.83 seconds is pretty incredible for a first match!
  14. Maybe my math is wrong, but did you really average a 10.3 hit factor in your first match?!? If you shot 596 points and he shot 538 (I'm assuming you both shot Major, otherwise it would be even more unbelievable), and his time was only 5.53 seconds faster, that would take some really fast times!
  15. The rim dimensions of 38 super, 9x19, and 38SC are 0.406", 0.392", and 0.386" respectively. I know from experience Tanfoglio 9mm slides have the breech face cut too tight to run regular 38 super, a 38 super barrel in a 9mm slide will be the best fit for 38SC.
  16. Video plays fine for me, great shooting!
  17. Is there a noticeable difference in velocity from batch to batch?

    CZ 75 red dot

Yes, I'd say it's a good value, although I don't like the short beaver of the standard 75B, so it's not something I would choose; the 75B SA has extended ambi safeties, ambi mag release (which can be swapped for the extended Shadow release) and a long beaver tail. I'd think you could easily sell the dot for $100-$150 as long as the adjustment screws aren't stripped (as mine were). $350-$400 for a steel CZ: definitely worth it!
  19. Do you like picking up brass or shooting?

    CZ 75 red dot

I'm pretty sure it's a JP dot with the CZ logo on it: http://shop.opticsplanet.com/jp-enterprises-jpoint-8-moa-reflex-red-dot-sight.html?_iv_code=J5-RD-JPoint8&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=plusbox-beta&gclid=Cj0KEQjwhMjKBRDjxb31j-aesI4BEiQA7ivN-EHnPzc6RivLaDiZyWEz9QLpFJZFydn0ApzYIPE1l4oaAgZC8P8HAQ I had one and found it slightly cheesey
  21. If you use the gift option funded from you PayPal balance or bank account there is no fee, are you finding the gift with a credit card?
  22. I've sold guns using PayPal, gold and silver, but never Bitcoin; I'm surprised more shooters aren't interested in crypto ( or maybe they just don't talk about it ).
  23. I used to load 9/38/40/45, plus I had handguns in half a dozen more calibers. Today, every center fire pistol I own is 9mm and I load two loads: 9 Major for Open and 9 minor for Production.
